It's still memorable in it's own right from the initial fight along with how goofy the entire thing is.

I am a big fan of stupid bullshit if it is delivered well. Anime tropes don't bother me whatsoever and I think people who get hung up on anime slut clothes are more childish than the horndogs honestly. I saw bits of the combat and anything that isn't turn based combat without positioning in an RPG is always a plus to me. So I was hoping that it would get deeper later in the game, since at the beginning it looks like playing a new character in an MMO.

Main reason I am interested is that in the short time that I saw the game the characters kinda grew on me already and now I just want to see them interact. I am just afraid that the game is full of time wasting bullshit. Like I can already see the running speed is not that high and menus open slowly etc.

However if the gameplay gets deeper later on I would definetly pull the trigger.

It's easily the most polished of the Xenoblade games--by the time all aspects of combat were available to me I felt that I was very in control (but because I am super autistic about combing around for stuff, this took me around 30 hours).

Most of the time wasting shit is optional so if you decide you don't like the taste of it all you're missing out on is some banter and resources (xp/gold/equippables/etc) you can get elsewhere. Character interaction is part of the optional stuff, but you don't have to dig too deep to get all of it.

The gameplay does get deeper later on (though the game takes way longer than it should to give you access to the full combat), but the game absolutely is full of time wasting bullshit, and the menus are dogshit.

Kind of. For example, the run speed is pretty slow until you upgrade it, and if you don't upgrade it some of the really big maps get annoying to travel the first time, but there's also reasonably spaced fast-travel locations. The combat starts off unreasonably slow, to the point that they don't introduce fundamental mechanics until hours and hours in, but by the end it is really complex and fast. And tye way you upgrade your weapons can be really tedious, not even accounting for the gatcha.

If you're the kind of person who can say "this won't be optimal and I won't see everything" and still have a good time, you'll be fine (especially with the patces that cut down a lot of time wasters.) If you're the kind of person that needs to see everything, do everything, and max everything then the game is kind of a nightmare.

Combat gets faster? I droppped the game because of the slow battles, but if that changes later on I think I should give it another go.

It's not really a nightmare, unless you go for maxing out every horribly long to farm quest items (for exemple the drinks from Folala's quest in Argentum, or every recipe of the Tirkin restaurant quest in Mor Ardain), or if you have horribly bad luck at pulling rare blades
In my savefile I just go for at least 1 of each item and I'm almost done (on NG++, easily the fastest playthrough of the 3 so far, but I'm doing it on OOC though)
I'd say it'd take me around 400 hours total, including completing the challenge mode in normal, but I'm taking my time

Very, very basic combat mechanics are locked behind driver and blade tech trees. The beginning of the game is really unreasonable in how slowly it introduces everything. It'd be like if you were playing chess and the ref said "okay, now you can move your knights" after you and your opponent got locked in a pawn wall.

It was very early when I had to kill a crab on an island to get parts for the artificial blade that was surrounded by lvl 44 enemies. I was too weak for almost every enemy I met and it looked like the combat would take ages.
Now I didn't ragequit or anything but just stopped and didn't return.

I hope you enjoy it, user. Keep in mind that the posters in this threads tend to be biased, though. It's an awfully polarizing game.

In that case, the combat does get faster later on...but it gets a LOT slower before it does, and it can still be really slow if you don't know what you're doing.

Unless you're playing Bringer of Chaos, the combat shouldn't take that long if you know what you're doing. But you are very restricted at the start of the game, though enemies you have to fight have little HP in the first two chapters to make up for this. Make sure you're attack canceling on the strongest auto-attack.

The game makes a really poor case for itself in the beginning. Once you're in you're in, but with how slow everything starts and how they don't direct you to the things that speed it up I wouldn't he surprised if a lot of people dropped it early.

I played through the game and was forcing myself to finish it initially. Two things helped: switching to Japanese dubbing, and playing Torna in-between what I think was chapter 6 and 7. The Japanese voice acting is considerably better, and Torna is a 10/10 game; it makes the entire experience better. Became my favorite game on the switch as a result.

I haven't seen many people who actually bothered to play Torna at the recommended point in XB2's story instead of just playing it afterwards.
Was adjusting to the normal XB2 combat after playing it awkward?

The fight is preceded by one of the hardest battles in the game, I think making the player invincible for the part where you're supposed to be beating the tar out of the enemies is reasonable. Same for the fights at the end of chapter 7.

People complain about the combat being slow because they don't bother to learn it. Yes it's slow if you do nothing but auto-attacks and arts plus the occasional special when you remember them.

Every superboss can be quickly and effortlessly killed in seconds, even in challenge mode (no normal difficulty, at least). The combat is fun as hell.

Pretty much this. Probably the first time I bothered to level up to 99 in a jrpg because I had so much fun. Use the base battle system of XC2, grab some of the things Torna introduced (but definitely keep the Combo system of XC2, not the Torna one) and we're shaping up to have a XC3 even more fun.

Curious if Torna gets an awakening purge option at some point. I've gotten to the Viridian Gate fight and the mad dash towards chain attacks has become far more intense in the span of these two fights.

Having never played Xenoblade 1 or X i bought 2 on black friday. I had played the Xenosaga games so i kinda was expecting a lot more religious and moral themes. Regardless i loved Xenoblade 2 it was some of the most fun i had playing a video game in years. I even got lucky and picked up Xenoblade 1 for the wii with a pro controller for $50 on ebay. If you care about sidequests at all use a guide, even if it makes you feel cheap. Xenoblade in general has a lot of "padding" with how much gathering it asks of you and cutting out the step of remembering where to go helps take the sting off.

check out the accessory shop in Fonsa Myma, it should sell something that resists shackle driver
you can also try doing an earth > fire > earth blade combo to seal shackle driver completely, but keep in mind that finishing any non-earth blade combo after that will overwrite it

I found a series of really good leveling spots early on so i was lvl 40 ish at that fight. A quick google search for early game grind spots could help. Dont feel the need to be super swoll just get a 5 exta levels and go pound their gay asses in.

IIRC the accessory shop in Fonsa Myma sells shackle resist shit. If you can finish a Earth or Ice combo too, you can shackle one of the combos. Also definitely try to Chain Attack when you can.

Sidequests. All the sidequests that become missable at a later date will have a clock icon next to them in your quest log.

mostly just little character moments, I think all of the skill tree quests aren't missable.
I think the only quest chain you can miss that's worth it is the pollen orb chain, but that's not the end or the world

Make it so your Blade constantly tries to walk away from you, breaking the affinity link.

There's a bunch of neat sidequests aside from the kill x quests though and some of those are definitely missable, the game tells you that they become unavailable but not really exactly when (because spoilers and such). I'm pretty sure you can also screw a few of them up by making the wrong choices, but it's never anything vital.

The combat in this game feels so fucking high iq. I just barely managed to get my first blade combo off fighting Morag the first time in chapter 2. Had to spend like an hour figuring out just how the shit even works beforehand but then couldn't get the right elements going before then to go anywhere with them.
Basically just stood there watching the special meters the entire fight paying no attention to anything else.
I feel like the UI is kind of a mess. There's just so many mechanics and systems to keep track of on top of the insanely flashy effects and battle dialogue that I can't keep up.

The dumb shounen anime shit is great though. Rex literally power of friendship yelling at and beating "THE GREATEST DRIVER WHO HAS EVER LIVED AND HER BLADE" is kino

I think the battle UI is actually pretty good. Any other jrpg would shit itself with all the systems XC2 has, and yet, it works, step by step, with actually minimal clutter contrarily to what some would want you to believe. Everything on screen is useful. Well, the XP bar is useless, I'll admit. And challenge mode could use some smaller font on the timer and shit, but otherwise it's good. Everything flows naturally.

It's a good difficulty in that every challenge mode fight becomes a puzzle that you have to crack. You need to build a team that can beat it, put the right pieces together, etc.

The odds are stacked against you to a ridiculous degree, to the point that you'll die really quickly if you just throw a team together and run in guns blazing.

I'm not sure that I'd recommend it for a NG+ playthrough. Maybe it'd be fun if you had all of your blades maxed out, but NG+ fresh after beating the game? No way.

Try custom difficulty instead. It has sliders, so you can adjust whatever you like.
