The argument used to go that Nintendo wouldn't put in a character who would advertise a game on their competitor's console
But that logic is dead with Cloud. Sure, there are Final Fantasy games without Cloud on Nintendo systems, and Cloud appears in games on Nintendo systems which aren't Final Fantasy games, but at the end of the day Cloud himself represents FF7. Nintendo doesn't stand to benefit in any substantial way from promoting Cloud.

I think portables have gone a long way, remember how different it was Need for Speed Underground to like, NFSU advance? Now you get stuff like Doom that barely looks any different, the difference is like between an Xbox and a PS2 game.
