Yeah but the first season was perfect. It was a beautiful journey following a stoic, quicktalking failure. The second one still got me going a good deal but it lost a deal of xavier's own uniqueness as a character for wackier plots.

Well, Final Fantasy VI was structured like an opera(including the actual ingame opera) but I imagine plenty of games using leitmotivs and reusing them in the credits/epilogue. DMC 3, for example.

Unironically its Silent Hill 2. Its the only game id call a masterpiece and the amount of mastercraft dev work that went into every single second of that game is insane.

That said its piss easy and Silent Hill 1 is a much better/harder/scarier game but while SH2 gameplay is a bit weak, everything else about it is fucking insane and an actual emotional and deep+mature story. Its also really one of the only games that is TRULY Psychological horror. I played it first as an adult and it was just draining me and I play/watch horror more than anything else when it comes to genres.

I might be wrong, but I think it was probably the best looking video game, even vs PC shit, at the time.

I would argue Pathologic, by both exploring the role of mechanics and player agency (game-unique features) to a great degree, and by also presenting a story that actually has some literally merit to it. It both pushes the medium very far, and simulatenously present points and themes that are very strong. Many games have done either one, or the other, but rarely doing both and in such a balanced fashion.

Shame the remake looks to be in pretty bad spot.

At that point the entire game would be finished anyways, as the only things those playthroughs change is some things, but not mechanics or really the town. I played the small alpha demo they released and it was pretty great. Its actually in a great spot last I checked.

It really isn't great. They straight up admitted they are nearly completely out of money, switching to episodic releases is bad for many, many reasons, the development has hit severe issues, including major technical ones.

I played the Beta extensively, and I was impressed with how much they managed to stay true to what made Pathologic so memorable and identify many things that need improving. I'm not doubting the teams vision here. But it's clear the fucking development hit a really bad spot.
