So is this just more Yea Forumstardness or is it the hipster effect? Remember when this was the "death of 3D Mario" as it was not only the Wii U's only 3D Mario game but also used the New Super Mario Bros. style of reaching the goal post as seen in 3D Land.
Now we got a new 3D Mario that goes back to the open sand box formula everyone was sucking off, but since its on a more successful console. Suddenly everyone is praising the Wii U and Super Mario 3D World cause its totally not a hipster effect to appear different!
>18 Power Ups No there is 14 unless you really wanted to count collecting stamps and green stars as power ups. And even then stuff like the Goomba Mask has no extension to Mario's moveset and is just a hat. Lucky Bell is more of a clone item to the Super Bell than the Ice Flower to the Fire Flower. But I get you like the Super Tanooki Leaf so the game can give you shiny invisibility all the time!

>More unlockable levels Only like 5 short levels could be considered new, rest are either the same level with a short time limit, same level but with a night skybox, or the same level but with the green stars moved around.
>5 Playable Characters You guys act like these characters have more differences than most of the possessions in Odyssey. Wow Toad can run .5 times faster than Mario! 3D World didn't even have Yoshi and when you compare Yoshi you can do more moveset wise than the whole cast of 3D World

I just like level based Marios better than hub collectathons. I think levels are designed a lot better. Therefore I enjoyed 3D World a lot more than Odyssey.
Most of 3D World's level design is held back compared to stuff like Galaxy or 3D Land cause they wanted to force that 4 players, most of the levels are just corridors with maybe a hill on another layer of the level. Only real good 3D World level that isn't 100% flat was the Savannah level but then again the Wii U or the Engine couldn't handle it with all the pop in and bloom

I like Odyssey, but I think 10 billion Moons for literally everything was its Achilles Heel. If it had more focused challenges like 64s stars or Sunshines shine I feel like it would be stronger. Because of this I think I do prefer 3D World over it by a bit, it does exactly what it tries to do pretty much perfectly. Its not as ambitious as Odyssey but it really nails the landing. 100%ing 3D World in 3 player co-op is one of the most fun playthroughs I can remember of any game. Plus the aethestic looks nice and the OST is really fucking good. That said Odyssey is pretty strong too. Like a solid 8.5 or 9.
