Nope. These were different circumstances. Itsuno wanted to experiment with older Dante's looks, hence why he looks different than himself in the first place. While Vergil got added much later and they needed to make even younger version than 3 of him. They kinda fucked up there for obvious reasons.
Dante and Vergil were always considered as "identical" pair. Novel even stated Gilver's face being pure mirror of Dante's own. Prequel manga of 3 also stated the same and while we barely saw DMC1 Vergil, if you compare face of his and Dante, they still had resemblance to each other (except Vergil had slicked back hair). Their bios also always had them stated as identical twins. Crossovers always done them as identical twins and even reboot shit did the same.
5 is only game as such that "identical twins" part got retcon, apparently.

The main issue isn't model. Issue is RE engine itself. It basically combines two faces, which is why characters in general look off from their models.

Not exactly user. For my part I didn't imagine Vergil differently than he was in 4 before his reveal in 5. I didn't idealize how he would look like. I said most of us, not all of us. He's Dante twin, it makes the most sense for Vergil to be based on Adam Cowie. There's nothing at all weird about it (aside from the stubble.) I agree, the original turned out very well in the game and I'm quite fond of it myself, but saying the mod "awful" feels disingenuous as there's no objective standard beyond "this isn't what I saw first, so it's bad."

Vergil's face can't be "fixed" without changing out Dan Southworth. The actor's face have an effect on the 3D model itself. So Dan's chin is going to be noticeable no matter what 3D model they have. If you look at model swap mods you see how the animation skeleton distorts the 3D model. Vergil still has a gigachad chin even with Dante's face.

That's the problem with HD facial animation, the 3D model needs to match the actor to a certain degree; because the way your face moves is directly linked to how your face looks.

I think the real problem here when it comes to people who don't like 5Vergil, it's simply because it didn't meet their expectations. In the end, we all have our way of seeing Vergil. An I think those who are assblast the most are those who always envisioned him, in some anime-like features. Even if in the end, there is not that much people complaining about Vergil in the fandom, But I do understand the difficulties the few people have in accepting 5Vergil. It's too realistic for them.

Technically, no one is wrong. The players/users aren't wrong for criticizing how sometimes the character's faces look weird at some points. And Capcom isn't entirely wrong for repeated use of the RE Engine, something they put time and money into developing. Is it a bad engine? Nah, it's good. Does it make characters look fucking weird at times? Yeah. It's like when Square Enix was forcing their Luminous or whatever engine, and they couldn't get a fucking clue on what they were doing, so they put KH3 on Unreal.

A valid point to make is that they should reconsider altering the faces so much. The DMC models in particular are all good-looking, especially the girls, but the game sometimes doesn't do them justice. Chalk it up to technical unfamiliarity.

And this is just my opinion, I didn't say that you can't have yours too. I don't find that most of us thought that. I saw a lot of people not liking it actually that's why I pointed it out. But yeah it would have been logic that they have the same face model. But I am not sure weither it should have been Cowie or Maxim.

Yeah, it's inheritly a problem of highly detailed facial capture.

When you start getting into more detailed facial animation, it's impossible for the actors face to not have an effect on the model. The actors are essentially wearing a mask of another persons face, sure it can look different, but some of the actors looks will shine through; such as Dan's massive jaw.

I always felt like it didn't affect it that much. Maybe I am blind but I feel like Vergil's jaw is pretty much the same a Maxim, as can be seen in pic related. And also do you think Trish was affected like this ? Her nose for example, is this because of her model features or is this a consequence of her mocap ? Or maybe you have example for other characters as well. I find this interesting for whatever reason.

Bioware characters actually tend to look better in game than the render in most cases. At least back in the days of the ME trilogy. Liara as a prime example, her renders were almost always inferior to the in-game model.

Regardless of how much model is expensive, it won't end up costing developer as much as it would company that hired them to market perfumes or some shit like it.
