Brotodile with Cyndaquil partner.
they have to do a switch pokemon mystery dungeon game at some point.
>What's your favorite starter/partner combo?
No idea. I do remember liking Chespin a lot in Super Mystery Dungeon
>Will you be getting Chocobo Mystery Dungeon?
Definitely. I've already got it preordered.
Hard to say. I liked Meowth in Blue and Darkness (with Squirtle and Chikorita, respectively), so I was a little miffed when Sky made him partner-only. Shinx was pretty radical, though (partnered with Meowth that time). I played Axew with Pikachu in Gates, but didn't play Super.
I just started Super Mystery Dungeon after putting it off for so long.
Definitely an improvement over gates to infinity, not a fan with the school plot, but I'm assuming that ends soon.
>get teleported into monster house
>die in 2 turns to 7 pokemon spamming moves that hit the room
Fuck
Favorite starters in RRT are Charmander and Squirtle since their final evolutions still show their expressions during cutscenes.
Not going to get CMD because I won't feel the same attachment to the game if it doesn't have Pokemon.
meowth and Cubone or machop
I've only played Gates and Super, In Super I started with Turtwig and Riolu(named Luka), I don't regret it one bit.
Question over super mystery dungeon:
Its the recruit system always like that? i liked the old one rather than this one
The game always give me a Treecko as avatar.
And Cyndaquil is always my comrad
>not a fan with the school plot, but I'm assuming that ends soon.
It does, don't worry.
What a cutie.
The little guy gets 2 or 3 ranged multi-hit moves and multi-hit is so broken in SMD.
I usually get totodile but running with bulbasaur with cyndaquil as my partner for this playthrough of BRT
Started playing Tangledeep. Is this supposed to be a Mystery Dungeon-like?
Which game should someone start with if they haven't played Mystery Dungeon before? I heard Sky is probably the best
I'm also retarded and don't know where to go for ROMS
I played as Cyndaquil wih Bulba as my partner
I just played them in order (Blue, Sky, Gates, Super). They're all worth playing at least once.
First time I took the quiz I got the game told me I was a lonely sad sack and gave me Cubone, which is perhaps the most apt decision a game has made for me.
In terms of the starters I like playing as, I like Meowth, cause his reaction faces are some of the most endearing, Totodile, and Shinx.
I hope the next game lets you pick any Pokemon as your starter and partner. Ready to do my Shuckle and Nosepass team
Yeah it is from what I remember. I do miss the old system too, but for the 700+ pokemon I can understand them wanting to do something different.
Chokorita is my favourite Pokémon, so I always choose it. I got Pikachu from doing the test
Great to hear, thanks user
>Listen to SMD's soundtrack while driving
>???
>Profit
3rd step doesn't work if the police see you be warned
That's hella epic dude.
it's totally mexico
Following the quiz is for quitters.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
PLEASE CHUNSOFT BRING BACK CUBONE AS A STARTERMON
I WANNA THROW BONERANGS
I WANNA HAVE A CUTE LIL HOUSE THAT IS MODELED AFTER MY DEAD MOM'S SKULL
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Charmander as MC, Mudkip as partner.
>Will you be getting Chocobo Mystery Dungeon
Excuse me?
Use vimms lair
I hope you're ready for a feel trip with some twists and turns.
I've actually been thinking of getting back into this series since recently I've lost interest in mainline pokemon games and only really enjoy the spinoffs. If I have only ever played Blue Rescue Team on the DS where should I go from there?
Decided to replay SMD since I stop playing after 20h. Got Chestnut, who is the most suitable partner ?
Have you done the postgame for Blue Rescue Team? If not, then I'd recommend doing that before jumping to Explorers of the Sky. It's not integral to the plot or anything, but just for the sake of experiencing it.
I should've been more detailed. I last played Blue Rescue Team over 10 years ago before I lost it. But I remember I did a ton of the postgame stuff. Are there any games in this series are just bad? Or is it one of those ones where all of them are good in their own ways?
Sky.
It's by far the best game in the series.
Vulpix/Shinx
From what I heard the only bad one is gates, but it still had a good plot.
Gates is the only game I didn't play, but rescue team, explorers of the sky and super mystery dungeon are all good with sky being the best.
Gates is really the only one I can say is pretty shit but it's still worth experiencing because it arguably has the best narrative in the series. Though that's really just a subjective thing honestly.
Blue is short but great to replay, so you aren't really hassling yourself from replaying it again.
Explorers is considered the pinnacle of the series for its grandiose narrative and its absurd amount of content, even well into the postgame and especially Sky which adds a lot more content with the special episodes and Shaymin's thing.
Super has the best gameplay but a fairly subpar story since the pacing's fucking atrocious. Still fun though.
Where my psyduck boys at?
Looking forward to it
This image was drawn with sexual intentions.
Silver wind or Ominous wind users.
i like how they mixed in some non-starter pokemon as playable protags. i actually didn't know it was a spinoff and thought that's what pokemon are like when i first played it. still like it better than the main series. first partner combo is squirtle + treecko in red rescue team, chosen purely because of what the test gave me and because i liked treeckos mugshot
>You're the Ominous/Silver Wind user
Go defeat the evil Hydregion, user! Didn't you see how mean it was to me in that cutscene?
I really liked most of those special episodes.
>i'm the Ominous Wind user
>i'm using Drifblim
>just entered a monster house
3d models just dont give the same feel dammit
>Of course, there are lots of outlaws in this world...
>They are caught and punished, but...
>But...
>Truly bad Pokémon...
>Don’t really exist anywhere.
Is Super MD worth getting?
Yeah it probably has the best gameplay in the series.
The pacing is kinda fucked though.
>Chunsoft
Spike Chunsoft is dead.
Look at their latest technical marvels.
>Zero Time Dilemma, barely functioning and super clunky even for a VN
>Danganronpa V3, which looks pretty, but still plays like a shovelware
>Zanki Zero is a massive flop in Japan and won't do much better in the West either
>Jump Force is just terrible in every way possible
>AI: The Somnium Files is just Zero Time Dilemma 2
Let's hope Seiichiro Nagahata finds a job somewhere else.
damn
One of my favorite combos was Smeargle with Mind Reader linked to Spike Cannon. Technician + STAB made sure that everything died, even Aggrons took 100+ damage, it was glorious. Don’t use Ginsengs on Spike Cannon or any Technician boosted move though, the effect of Technician is lost b/c of the boosted power. Mind Reader+Perish Song also works, along with OHKO moves such as Sheer Cold or Fissure
>Its a Monster House!
>ah ok I'll just use my petrify orb
>chansey's natural cure
>chansey used Refresh!
*uses a pure seed and dabs out*
Cubone for starter and Totodile for partner
>99 reviver seeds sitting in my pouch
I'M FUCKING INVINCIBLE
My preferred Sky's combo was Pikachu and Riolu because they match the one in the trailer. Pikachu get Agility and Discharge spam during the main story. Riolu with some seed set-ups can one-shot Dialga. Pretty cool.
How would you rate the mystery dungeons among the franchises such as Etrian MD, Chocobo MD, and Pokemon MD?
/vp/ periodically has a PMD general with resources to get PMD ROMs and emulators.
3D will always be a mistake
Credits playing while you cry
>99 items in pouch
>Maximum pouch space is 48
>monster house is in the room with the stairs
Okay, 48. I haven't played in a while.
This game has got so many of my ultracasual friends into hardcore roguelikes it's great
Trying not to cry
How do the rescue team games compare to the explorer games?
>tfw I'm the only person in existence who has played Shiren The Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and The Dice of Fate
That game alone justifies the my purchase of a Vita
So which Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is the best and why?Is it worth it to play the other ones?
I wanted to play Shiren the Wanderer remake for the DS for some time now, what's it like?
>2D pixel pokemon
>10/10 story
>good gameplay
>a FUCKLOAD of content
>side stories that were really good
>mfw we'll never get another PMD like explorers of sky
GOD DAMN IT NINTENDO STOP MAKING EVERY POKEMON GAME 3D
Rougher around the edges and less interesting story, but set a good foundation for the series going forward.
Explorers of Sky is generally regarded as the best.
Super Mystery Dungeon is also considered very good but is let down by the lack of a wondermail system.
Only Gates to Infinity is regarded as a let down because of limited Pokémon available and other issues like slow-ass text and the "Paradise" development that eats up so much time doing daily rounds before dungeon exploration.
>2019
>people still think Nintendo is responsible for developing Pokemon games
This is how you spot the normalfag
My negro.
I also would've accepted squirtle with charmander partner
I wish they'd incorporate evolution at the halfway point of the game, like RRT/BRT did. It feels so hollow when you evolve in later entries
Charmander plus Squirtle is the GOAT combination in the original game
>Smokescreen and Protect are overpowered
>Need a high level Water type for Silver Trench
>Synergy with Groupon and Kyogre
Evolving BRT/RRT was all post game stuff.
Is the one on the 3ds any good? Thought about downloading the cia
I've only played the one on Vita, so I couldnt tell you definitively. If its anything like the vita game it's definitely worth a play though. There's one massive dungeon. Every time you die you restart at the beginning and lose all your items and levels. You can use an item to voluntarily escape the dungeon without losing your items so you can start over. Basically you're supposed to go through the dungeon while upgrading your equipment and collecting better items until you cant go any further, then restart and try again with all your upgraded stuff, getting further each time. There's a really cool mechanic where you can fuse equipment together so the resulting item has the abilities of both, and theres basically no limit to how many abilities you can get on one piece of equipment. This was your gear gets more and more powerful every time you enter the dungeon. There's a system where you can pay an NPC to tag certain items to be recoverable if you die. There's a lot of inventory management, but it's worth it.
These furry simulators had absolutely no right to be this good.
Blue Rescue Team is the best but you should start in ascending order of release date for QoL and graphical improvements.
gates of infinity or super mystery dungeon?
Super Mystery Dungeon for sure
Super mystery dungeon is good the only downside is that the story pacing is kind of fucked.
youtube.com
youtube.com
But there was arguably still a story
>oh shit, the ocean is acting up cuz of kyogre
>dude, there's an ultra powerful pokémon in that cave! His name is mewtwo
>holy shit a meteor crashed! It's deoxys
Whereas in explorers, everything's pretty much done when you evolve
But there isn't really a story, those are just excuses to go to new dungeons like the 7 wonders in sky.
>Gengar and Gardevoir
>Latios and Latias
>Wish Cave
>Buried Relic
>Spinda and Ho-Oh
It's not plot heavy, sure but there's more to it than solely "go to x dungeon and get item from legendary"
It's arguably the same in Super. By the time you get to evolve, you have the 'Treasure Collection' to do, and there are a shit ton of dungeons to do evolved.
>evolving
enjoy your no stat benefit
Don't mind me, just the emotional peak of the series coming through.
youtube.com
>no stat benefit
>not chugging drinks to max out your stats/pp/move power
Sasuga, user.
>not evolving Charmander and mudkip to EQ and heatwave all day every day.
My duo mains Blizzard and Discharge
way ahead of you
Currently playin SMD
The kiddie school shit annoyed me at first but everything is slowly building up. Also, the boss fights can fuck you up if you don't come prepared.
>Grovyle... my.. life... did it shine?
>yes, extraordinarily.
Grovyle was the realest of niggas.
youtube.com
>Absolutely punked the Poliwraths with Chespin
>get knocked out by the Poliwag
did you also cry at the end of mystery dungeon red/blue or was it just me
>play as charmander
>Get to submerged cave.
>water mons that hit like trucks a plenty.
>Think I am smart and hide behind mudkip to let him do the fighting
>Mfw hydro pump gies through Mudkip and hits me as well.
Fuck those guys. I also had a horrible time doing my first escort mission.
>pokemon asking to be escorted to 5f
>pfftt just 5f, what could possibly go wrong
>turns out he is a fucking prick that leads you to a monster house
>several Heliolisks charging up Razor Wind everywhere
Is it possible to use Homebrew or something to get same-type combos in PSMD? I want a Treecko / Turtwig playthrough
The future special episode and grovyle's farewell hit me way harder than the goodbye to your partner. I still get tears in my eyes every time I replay it.
A bit autistic, but I always choose Treecko as my starter as a tribute to him.
Shin Megami Tensei mystery dungeon game when?
>A bit autistic, but I always choose Treecko as my starter as a tribute to him.
Nothing wrong with that user.
In PMD skies I would even go as far to say that treecko is the canon choice.
>I would even go as far to say that treecko is the canon choice.
For me, it's Pikachu
noice
>silver wind
>each target hit has a chance to raise all your stats
>use one of the free turns to cast a second silver wind
>mop up the survivors with basic attacks
Omae wa mou shindeiru
depends
already have it preordered on amazon japan
Anyone else get aroused by the fact you turn into a Pokémon in these games?
Having played Super it never really captured the same intensity of emotion that R/B and Sky did. Though I don't know how much of that was just me being younger when I played them
But listening to always make me feel
piplup/torchic
birds 4 life
And that's a good thing
which one is the female?
user, there is no okay fuck you it's the treecko in the porn the artist drew with them
Kill your partner, boyo
thank god i thought i was gay for a sec, thanks
You're still a faggot
Is it really?
Yea, yes it is
>tfw a lot of pmd fans are dumb fetishists
>tfw i just like dungeon crawling with my favorite pokemon and using pokemon that might not see use in the normal games
>no Upper Steam Cave
ONE JOB
youtube.com
>no Primal Dialga
I know it's been memed to death, but that doesn't make it not the best.
who are you trying to impress on this cia psyop disguised as a chinese owned forum about japanese cartoons? no one cares
i didnt expect to save the world as a fucking phanpy thats for sure
fuck you all now i have to replay them
I wish it was easier to get specific type/Pokemon-exclusive items from the mystery boxes in PMD2

>Sky Tower
>tfw a lot of pmd fans are dumb fetishists
I can't say I'm surprised. This series is pretty much a pokephile's wet dream.
played the blue rescue team as a kid. what's the best one i should play?
Vulpix/Shinx, two of my favorite 'mons with my two favorite IQ groups.
play them all in order of release
Like I said this furry simulator had no right to be this good.
youtube.com
All of them are good.
Explorers the second one in the series is the best
Other user is talking about this being released on the Switch and PS4
These aren't as attractive as pokemon, what's the point?
Best is Rescue Team.
Worst is Gates to Infinity but it's not completely awful. Gameplay is lackluster but story, characters and music are top-tier.
>inner chamber
gates gets a lot of shit
but its soundtrack is excellent
Stop trying to fuck pokemon, they are our friends.
Partner can be whatever, though i choose the wqter ones often. Starter is skitty. Skitty is so fucking good, she can put so many status effects up, its crazy. Articuno was such a push over with her, constantly laying sleep, affection, and paralyze on the blue goose. She is exceptionally underrated
That Treeko better be male.
if they ever make a new pmd they should add a dungeon that forces your party (or maybe force u to solo to rely on recruits) to be lvl1 itemless and the dungeon itself should have random enemy sets also. make it 99f and add a couple boss floors inbetween of all 99f dungeons just to add a little variety and u have a perfect game with infinite replayability
For some reason having a Pikachu say that just makes it sound silly.
and of course have a good reward in the end. i liked the jirachi thing in rescue team, something like that but with actual good rewards instead of shitty money or fucking sticks and apples that uve been pickng up the entire time you were trying to get to him
>what is purity forest, zero isle and destiny tower.
99 floor dungeon where you are lvl1 and can't bring items to have been a thing since PMD1.
based
Are there any tricks to beating the main boss in Super? I went in on my first play through and just fucking gaped my asshole
Super based.
I always ran Pikachu as my partner. I answered honestly for Rescue Team and got Treecko. I purposely got Riolu for explorers to match that one commercial I saw.
you cant recruit any mons though.
yeah but i specifically said random enemy sets
I think I had Liepard spamming fury swipes with unburden (attack twice with no item). He's a pretty OP mon with that set up.
I'm really digging these sprites, which game is this?
PMD Time/Darkness/Sky
Are you for real?
The game this thread is about?
Etrian isn't great but chocobo is good.
>tumblr
>team gay
go back
google images still counts
Settling in nicely?
not with things like you
Anyone who has Touhou Genso Wanderer Reloaded here?
>B-But the TumBlR fiLEnAmE
try as hard as you might to fit in, a tourist always makes himself known
The tumblr threat is dead, user.
The site's a graveyard these days.
You're right "gay" alone doesn't describe you well enough.
The dialogue made me feel sad but then the music came on and I just started crying. This episode was so cute, charming and well written youtu.be
Fpbp, me every time
>>Danganronpa V3, which looks pretty, but still plays like a shovelware
Fuck you DRV3 was fine
but it was also the last one of the series so yeah Chunsoft is very well fucked
I haven't played any of them in a while but I still remember this song
youtube.com
kodaka's making a not-danganronpa game right now, i'm sure they'll be fine
>all this gayposting
STOP LEWDING THE POGEYMANS
Who do you think plays these games?
Straight people?
>player character disappears
>aw this is so sad
>gets brought back like nothing happened
>eevee
I'd laugh.
Look how smooth Treecko's thighs are haha
Imagine how he must feel against your lips lol
His toes would probably feel nice and soft squishing against your lips
Treecko is pure
Eevee is best though
Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon Every Buddy is coming this 20th bros. I'm hyped!
It's the worst actually. Not even the spritework can save that garbage. It's ugly.
Do we know how it plays? I haven't really looked that far into it, but if it plays like PMD, I'll pick it up Day 1.
I know I'm late but pastebin.com
You can have any team you want
look up a walkthrough for the wii version
just watch a couple videos and you'll know
Should I play my copy of explorers of time which i haven't touched in years or get explorers of sky. Does time still hold up by itself?
It's the Wii/DS version but you can now befriend dungeon monsters to fight alongside you.
Thank you based user
all pokemon fuck and breed, user. possibly even interspecies. none are truly pure. they no doubt end up having fetishes too
Time is ok, but Sky adds a bunch of content with special episodes if you want more
>answer questions truthfuly
>become a Psyduck
what does it mean?
>Treecko is pure
Are you sure about that?
We'll surely get a gen 8 mystery dungeon game for the switch soon
r-right?
What version of the series? I'm going to download the rom just for the test
it means you're based
red rescue team on gba
Get Sky, it's like Emerald or Platinum compared to their original releases. Lots of post game and new starter pokemon
I got Charmander, sorry about your gay duck bro.
>85F
>2 hours of grinding
>MONSTER HOUSE
>trying to run away
>partner dies
>every doorway is blocked
>no health items left
Are any of these games actually hard like roguelikes or are they "roguelikes"and thus incredibly hard because "muh roguelike" until you get some OP stuff and steam roll the game?
Phanpy and eevee.
The game isn't a rougelike. There is no permanent death, you progress through an entire story.
I don't know what you consider "OP stuff" because you learn certain movies and aquire certain items mainly for health or buffs but from what I remember it was fairly challenging and the postgame content was enormous to really challenge you.
>my favorite mechanic was randomly recruiting Pokémon in dungeons
>severely limited in Gates to Infinity
>completely dropped in Super Mystery Dungeon
I HATE IT
Oh okay so it is easy like most FF games or requires some semblance of intelligence like FFT or FFTA?
I always played treecko and cyndaquil partner because it was the favorite pokemon of my best friend, named after him and all.
I wouldn't call it easy or hard. It depends on how good you're at the game. There's strategy involved for the most part and you can easily lose on boss fights if you mess up.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD EVENING Yea Forums!!!!!!!!
THIS IS YOUR EVENING REMEINDER THAT BURIED RELIC IS THE BEST SONG IS THE MYSTERY DUNGEON SERIES!!!!!
REMEMBER TO DISREGARD ANYBODY WHO TRIES TO TELL YOU OTHERWISE!!!!
Yeah, I dropped SMD about two hours in because of this. I was really hoping for a mod to fix this but I don't think 3DS modding is possible.
>40 bucks
I love Chocobo's Dungeon but honestly for a port of a decade old game nobody played they're asking for a lot.
Did you forget that several months, maybe years passed while you were gone
Been years since I played this series. Any of the. good to emulate on mobile?
Yeah, but from the player's perspective it's like 5 minutes. Gates and Super did it right where you have to continue the post game alone and get back after some quests. Plus the game continuing alone adds to the feeling of loss
*blocks your path*
youtube.com
Not so fast youtube.com
I'm STILL stuck on my Blue Rescue Team run because Mew won't fucking show up reeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
this
Charizard and Swampert cover each other's weaknesses extremely well, and have access to Heat Wave, Earthquake, Blizzard and Surf for clearing out entire rooms
Plus Charmander was my starter in RB/FRLG, while Mudkip was my starter in RSE.
Whether its hard or not depends on how much you know about the game and your strategies. For casuals it would probably be very hard, for an experienced player not so much although you can still get caught off guard pretty easily.
>that tourneyfag who coldly calculates his duo based on type advantages and statistics and abilities rather than choosing his favorite and a good friend to go on adventures with
if you don't decide pokemon by personality test you're a faggot
I came into this thread with a smile, now all I am doing is crying. My feels are swelling up.
Pikachu's crying face is hilarious, looks like an accordion.
personality test is unreliable, you could naturally be a "sassy" or a "quiet" type or something but not actually get any questions that allow you to demonstrate that and end up as something that doesn't fit at all, thats why its more representative to just choose your fave
>tfw my custom duo is both favorites and insanely good ingame
It's nice
Riolu and Vulpix is peak kino and if you don’t agree you’re probably gay
Sometimes they just don't give you the questions you need to get some pokemon. First time I played it i had a guide and it took me 5 tries to get my fave pokemon
>used to love these games in my childhood
>mfw this thread
Eevee is worse as a partner than an MC, mainly because it's shitty ability means it's useless below half-health as a partner.
I actually started playing the first Mystery Dungeon game recently. The first one is actually a Dragon Quest game. It's pretty good.
Where do you fall?
>riolu
Ya got me
red or blue
time or space
then sky
everything else is inessential
time/space worth playing simply because they're great on their own, and it makes you appreciate how much better sky is in comparison
>Meowth
Not one single hit. Grovyle out of necessity since Meowth got shafted, and at least I do ship the hero/partner
there were no bad ones
>Treecko
Completely wrong. I never evolved and I only played Time, shipping is fucking dumb, and I don't come up with my own plot ideas.
too fucking good
How do you make a pokesona lads? Do you just roll with vanilla pokemon, or do you apply accessories? Are scarves and glasses overdone? You know not to recolor anything right?
Skittish(Male). I didn't think it was overpowered, second playthrough I just cheated a Heatran in the mc slot. It doesn't break(mechanically, a semilegendary is pretty OP) the game but he does not have as many portraits as a legit starter.
I got that game, but I get ultrafucked during the night and it makes climbing the tower a pain. Any tips?
Treecko, Riolu and Axew respectively for the first 3.
Treecko again in Super.
Squirtle or Chespin fit the bill
idk about roguelikes
but these games are decently hard
and lv1 dungeons are the hardest and can never rly b steamrolled, they just test your skill and luck endlessly
Which PMD should I start with if I've never played the series before?
So these level 1 dungeons are pretty much "you have nothing, luck matters, have fun"?
i mean its up there
but ur in the minority for thinking its best thats for sure
see
>Mudkip
Got it off the personality test, was happy because Ruby was my first gen and I used Mudkip there. Played through the entire game 100%.
People usually set a side a "or just actually likes Mudkip" but a lot of these seem pretty weak so I think it's just shit effort overall.
i liked friend areas in red/blue
they were comfy/had soul whatever you wanna call it
and then the legendaries had their own areas w/unique music too
hope they bring it back sometime even though theres way more pokemon now
to some extent yeah
but you gotta remember that every mon levels up differently and starts with different moves and stats... like alakazam starts with some epic lvl strength but its rly hard to lvl it
anyway like starting with some mons in some of these gives you killer moves to work with from the start, etc
so even if you're hyper lucky you cant just do it with any mon
Mainline game is straightforward.
Postgame content is a bitch and typically requires that you mix up teams to find the best mon.
