This is ironically true. These games have a small group of try hards that play the game all day every day like it's their job because they think they're gonna go pro. Ruins the fucking online. Would be fixed with some decent matchmaking on the part of the developers, but I haven't seen any decent matchmaking in an online game for over a decade so I'm not holding my breath.

for example? I wanted to finish the online challenge board in the new smash bro. because I had finished all the single player ones. You don't even have to win for the majority of those, you just have to play, but it was still really irritating. For the most part, I stay away from online multiplayer, but sometimes the game ropes you into it if you want to "finish" the game.

Because a lot of games want to ride the e-sports wave, hoping that some kind of competitive scene will keep their game alive despite how shit it is. But since most of those games are in no state to be played competitively, they just die.
