there are literally no combos, you just have a basic atack. bosses are more in a dodge and hit style.
What makes the game insanely good is the world, platforming is easy most of the time except 1 specfic endgame level and it's v2, wich is actually insane, dark cotton alley level of dificulty.

Just restarted the game after dropping at launch because I suck ass, at the first combat with Hornet.
Any tips to not drop it midway through?

Go at it until you defeat her. Youll start to see her attack patterns after a while.

Here is how this game works.
You learn how to dodge every attack a boss has and you figure out how to hit him or her during the recovery.
Then you position to dodge the next attack before it comes.
When you can consistently avoid attacks and deal damage in the process it's a matter of time before you win.
You should also use the times when you knock out a boss to heal, because damage will usually wake them up. There are exceptions.
Using spells can speed up a boss fight, but I mostly use soul for healing. You can heal during specific attack you know will miss you, that may require quick focus.

Indeed it is. Explore the world properly, I recommend exploring one area at a time thoroughly. Mark everything you haven't completed yet, e.g. areas/grubs/shiny items you cannot yet access. Make use of charms, tweak them as you deem fit for the situation. Try to get the map as soon as possible. You don't necessarily need to defeat all bosses when you encounter them, but make sure to mark them so you can revisit them later. Sometimes it gets a bit annoying to track back to bosses from a save spot, but keep at it, and you surely will succeed.

Aside from double jump Hornet seems to have the superior movement options to the Knight.
She's got an airdash, a ledge grab, diagonal attacks, what looks like a long jump, back scuttle and web slinging. This isn't to mention her combat techniques like parrying, an aerial and ground based attack with no openings in the form of gossamer storm and healing instantly whether airborne or not

You will get some more markers as you progress, I guess there are 4 types altogether. However, you should visit back to the store sometimes, as you discover more things around the world, you'll need to get the markers for them so that they'll show up on the map.

Use magic. The fireball is great for crowd control, the howling is great for flying enemies and the down smash even gives you a few i-frames.
