I'll probably play more classes than I did during actual vanilla (I was never into alts that much, even today).

Only thing I probably won't play is a healing class, since I have zero experience doing so.

When you get into the higher tiers of raiding the human racial starts to become a lot more useful since you're getting more spirit so it's not that much of a detriment to roll human over priest. Vanilla is so piss easy you won't really lose out much due to racials unless you play a melee class and don't roll human/orc.

How accurate is it that hunters start off mediocre and just get progressively worse as the tiers go by? I'm not looking to top meters or anything but I'd like to at least be able to manage middle of the pack with effort, so I don't feel like complete dead weight on anything without enrage and the like.

Maybe I'd be better off on a warlock, or healing as a paladin or something.

No, it's one of the most boring classes to play in pve and pvp.

Dwarf priests have significant diminishing returns in raids. The first one is great, the second one is good. After that, your fear wards start going to the dps, which is not nearly as vital as it going to your tank. You get a small dps boost in encounters with aoe fear (which is about 1 boss per raid) for putting a fear ward on a dps. In most other fights, humans are technically better due to the extra spirit from their racial.

Very accurate. In our pserver vanilla guild we would have hunters get ready for naxx release by rerolling another class and then gearing them up so they would keep their raid spot. You're only useful for tranq shot since other classes can kite too.

You'll want to pick up Consecration while dumping Deflection - you actually want to get crit and also block attacks, so parry is detrimental overall. Then maybe only go 1/2 improved judgement so you can use those 6 points to get Consecration for improved aoe tanking.

I'm not sure this is true. I think that is a vocal minority and we are more likely to see numbers similar to actual vanilla, where hunter was extremely high pop, druid was still fairly high pop, rogues and mages were quite up there, priests were on the slim side.

There will probably be a fair number of warlocks too, and shaman/paladin are always popular both in polling and historically during Vanilla.

As someone who's been playing hunter on private servers for years with some good - top guilds on several servers i'd say that if you actually care to try to play perfectly you'll do well. I was usually 5-7th through mc and bwl and could top the meters on some fights where mobility was needed and melee dps suffered.

If you don't mind timing your shots, looking for aoe opportunities and managing your pet i'd say give it a shot. It's so much fun to dumbfound rogues/warriors/mages by placing higher than them on the meters.

Also the class is really strong in pvp.

I'm normally not a purist but I think dualspec is a thing that can't happen. the spec cost and fact that you have to go back to a trainer, re-enter the points, etc. All makes respec a pain in the ass, and that makes most people just stay their spec and adds a bit more variety and identity.

I feel like you should put 2/2 into guardian's favor (2nd row prot), but I could be wrong.

Max out imp might instead of benediction. Guardian's favor has more uses than 4% extra armor. Longer judgements probably save you more mana than reducing the mana cost of judgement and seals, plus saves you effort.

Leveling engineering without mining may be tough when the server first releases, buying mats will be very expensive.

End with Engineering and Tailoring. Enchanting sucks unless you can get spellpower or healing from MC, and Enchanting also sucks because you have to whore yourself out in trade chat while you're parked in a capital city when you could be making bank by aoe farming. Sure you can port to a capital city when needed, but you can't port back to where you were out in the world except by a one hour cooldown hearthstone.

That's one of the things that made them garbage though. On actual servers, you had peak times and you had off times. Wanted to farm something with little competition? Do it when others aren't playing. When you play during off times, you start to appreciate the community more since you notice what you miss without it. When you play during peak times, you start to appreciate peace and quiet.

Human Paladin.

Paladins are great until you hit the point where you can take repentance and realize your ultimate Ret ability is a 6 second incapacitate that breaks on any damage. Compare it to say Mortal Strike, an instant attack that hits like a truck, has low cd AND reduces healing by 50% and it's like why the fuck am I not playing a Warrior.

They'll still have to hold off on DPS so that they don't get aggro. The issue in vanilla is not how much dps you can do, but how much dps the tank lets you do.

Perhaps he could heal for a minute while tank builds aggro or when aggro is high

2 more Agility at 60 does not make a difference. It’s quite literally something like a 0.02% damage increase. What matters way more is racial utility.

There is a reason tanks put a fair bit of talents into dps trees and always get thunderfury you know. Threat is the thing that limits DPS more than anything else in vanilla.

How is priest healing in PvP? I'm torn between tauren shammy/undead priest yet most priest discussion in PvP revolves around shadow. I'd like to do some PvE content too so the resto/ele hybrids for Shamans seem an obvious choice to avoid respecc costs but for the archetypal healer I've hardly seen much debate around priests in PvP

Depending on the current content schedule they could very easily go the OSRS route by introducing phase7/8 at some point. I hope they announce another small tier after 6months/1year of Naxx. Holy Paladin was far and away the best dedicated target healer in TBC, every raid ran with at least one, often two or three. Retri got better over the course of the expansion until it became almost absurdly overpowered towards the end. Prot also remained viable. But yeah they were trash for most of Vanilla.

I personally don't find clown gear to be as bad in vanilla as it was from TBC onwards because at least the armor design/artstyle was consistent in vanilla. That's incorrect. Once you get to bwl gear there's a talent in survival that gives an excellent agility boost. I can't remember the exact build but it's a hybrid marks / survival build that's better dps once you reach that tier.

This doesn't really translate well to pve since they're not durable enough to be tanks and don't hit hard enough to be dedicated dpsers. Any class that doesn't fall into the holy trinity is a waste of space mathematically, and it doesn't make sense to bring a hybrid when there are a plethora of rogues ready to go.

In wpvp they can shine since anything goes, but in organized pvp it follows the same formula of raiding more or less. So you're essentially excluded from any meaningful content unless you play to your classes strengths.

I've tanked every dungeon as a Paladin, you absolutely can do it. Strath/Scholo is even easier with a Pally tank than Warrior and made most of my epic mount gold by selling orb farming runs. Can't mt raids though but who cares, plenty of warriors for that.

They’re the best end game pvp healers, most the time people won’t even try to kill them, just a waste of time if they are naxx geared. They never go oom and they have to many ways to save themselves if you even manage to get them to low health it’s bonkers as fuck. One of the first talents available for Enhancement is Shield specialisation. 1/3 of the Enhancement tree gives 'tanking' talents such as being available to parry. It's mostly a meme but if you're with a group of friends you can just equip a 1h/shield and tank most dungeons, it's great if you want to mix up your levelling experience since the damage difference between 1h and 2h shamans is minimal

The truth is that TBC Classic would never work as good as Classic because the game added almost all the cancerous features of retail WoW.

Shaman had some of the best threat gen at the start of a pull thanks to CL and Earth Shock. This meant they often held threat on packs even better than Warriors but the main issue that kept them from being anything other than dungeon tanks was even though they had great threat gen, they didn’t have the ability to mitigate damage beyond dodging and parrying.

Killing any healer in PvP is not worth it when you can just keep viper stinging and make them not able to respawn with full mana. Thank god viper sting is coming back.

Then you WILL NOT get invited to raids unless you heal.

You WILL NOT be allowed to get anything but healing gear in raids too.

They will tell you MS > OS (main spec > off spec) and will NOT allow you to get dps gear.

The gear will only make you better at healing.

It costs 50g to respec, and that is several hours of gold farming in vanilla.

These classes are not allowed to be anything but heal bots in end game, and healing raids in vanilla is extremely unfun (click on 40 different raid frames and press button)

My advice is don't pick these classes unless Blizzard makes dual spec or changes loot distribution.

For all its many attempts to enforce a tight-knit community and group activities, Vanilla WoW really fucked over the little guys by not increasing XP by grouping up with others, but straight up decreased it for them instead.

The staff has a 1 in 500 chance of dropping. But it's the ONLY epic staff geared for warlocks. That can drive a warlock mad. I wanted this staff. I wanted it bad. I farmed for it for 3 months. I ran Scholomance over 200 times. 5 times a day, for over 3 months, And this is before the recent nerf of Scholomance. This was back when an average run took 3 hours. We got it down to under 1,5 hours. Over and over and over. I saw countless others get the items they came for. But that damn staff never dropped.

I'm almost certain you actually earn more xp per mob than you don't. I don't have the actual numbers but, assuming two mobs are worth 100 xp each, if you killed them with someone else in group you'd get around 65 xp each.

This isn't true at all. True you split xp between mob kills but that's only for the "kill X number of Y creature" quests, for item quests you have to kill twice as many mobs so it evens out.

On top of that, your killing potential is so much higher in a group that you can just run down any random mobs between you and your objective for extra XP.

This isn't even counting the other time savers like not dying as often, forming groups faster and wiping less in dungeons, etc. The amount of time you lose to split XP while grouping is vastly offset by the amount of time you save being more efficient.

Every 3rd player is a warrior. There is a lot of them, 60s or levelers alike. You see I wouldn't want to discourage people from it but playing a warrior is always a very big gamble where you have to put in a lot of effort for a success which maybe will never come.
First of all if you don't have a guild orbiting around you and licking your asshole out you'll have a hard time. A very hard one. Now the other one is this: Good warriors are always in demand. Now the read the sentence again, GOOD warriors. This means a good geared warrior will probably use the guild as a jumping plank towards a better one, since guilds too want to take on their hands on the better ones. This is probably your best bet but as you can see its not a failsafe method.
You get a very tedious 1-60 where like every other class is more fun to play than you. Gear dependence doubles this up, and what awaits you is an incredibly big competition too. I won't say don't do it, just be prepared because there is a fuckhuge chance you'll be disappointed as fuck and all the effort will be wasted where you could actually have fun and enjoy the game.

If you're raiding, your healers are going to put better hots on you than what you'll ever put. In case you have no leftover rage from a previous fight, you might want to go back to caster for furor, but you still won't pull from caster or bother with hots because you'll enrage before the pull for 20 rage.

More so than warriors. Warriors require more rage to generate threat, and they also rely on being hit for skills like revenge. The only thing druids press on gcd is swipe, which doesn't generate much threat. As a result, the only thing they need to spend rage on is maul, which costs 7 rage. With fairly high crit, it's pretty easy to generate rage for that. Plus they can spam faerie fire for free.
