1 was a unique take on the 3D platformer and a really good one. 2 and 3 are just a bad attempt at aping Rare's work.
I loved Spyro 1 and was so excited when I heard that most people consider the other two better and was so disappointed. I played Ripto's Rage front to back looking for where it got fun and found much less and much lower quality fun intermittently, obfuscated by low quality minigames and bullshit like "Kill X enemies" MMO-like objectives. I didn't even bother to finish 3.
I had more fun with the GBA Spyro games than I did 2 and 3. They're not good games.
