Why has the "WoW formula" been copy and pasted for 15 years with different settings, gameplay, and graphics, but nobody has bothered doing the same with Runescape?

I just want a modern Runescape. Is that too much to ask for? Runescape at its core is such a great game, but the gameplay is garbage. Especially the extremely slow and outdated game tick rate.

Because WoW is the one that blew up
It's the same reason why there are a million direct LoL clones but nobody (other than HoN but that was kind of a different situation) ripped off Dota despite it being the objectively better game

But seriously, 20+ WoW clones and not a single Runescape clone? Are companies retarded? WoW clones are a crowded market, there's serious money to be made off of people who enjoyed how Runescape did things.

runescape is shit, outdated and the people who play it wont leave for another games

You mean wrath of the lich king.

>despite it being the objectively better game
lmao

albion online is a little bit of a modern runescape. I got addicted as hell for about ~100 hours but suddenly lost interest.

Why are these retards staring at me?

>More player freedom
>More variety in characters/items
>No forced meta
>No character unlocking
>Better itemization with more utility and no scale stats locking you in and out of items
>Far more skill and strategy required all across the board
>No handholdy design for normalfags and casuals

It's true

It's a gay-sniffing dog
The hamster is just gay

Jazz? Too loud.

>60 minute games
>6 second CC
>unavoidable point-and-click skills
>turn rate (relic of shitty WC3 engine) makes movement clunky
>insane burden of knowledge required to be even slightly competent
>nonsensical and obtuse mechanics like leading jungle creeps toward your minion wave to help you jungle
it's not to say dota doesn't have it's high points, like what you listed, but the game has SOOOO much clunk that it just plain is not fun

>60 minute games
Wrong
>6 second CC
Literally nothing wrong with this, higher-impact but longer cooldown abilities is better design and makes for deeper gameplay but if you want mashy spammy stuff there's also things like that via skywrath, bristleback, etc
>unavoidable point-and-click skills
Literally nothing wrong with this, it's a strategy game and the game takes more thought and skill than LoL thanks to them not being afraid to use targeted abilities
I bet you think TCGs are bad because you can't dodge attacks
>turn rate (relic of shitty WC3 engine) makes movement clunky
Turn rates are why your shit game doesn't have true melee carries, it's in the game because it balances ranged/melee and it punishes poor positioning
Even the base Warcraft 3 engine supported instant turn speeds, it wasn't used for a reason
>insane burden of knowledge required to be even slightly competent
It's really no more than LoL has, if you're seriously complaining that you need to learn a strategy game to become good at it then you really can't be saved
>nonsensical and obtuse mechanics like leading jungle creeps toward your minion wave to help you jungle
Nothing wrong with them, they add depth and are not at all complicated to learn

LoL has less depth, less variety, poorer balance (proven by pick/ban rates at each game's yearly event), and a worse consumer model
These are all facts

based

Modded mincraft is the best mmo

Nah, it sucks because the game becomes 100% a game of positioning instead of actual mechanics. Dota's got a lot of strategic complexity sure, but the individual interactions are all about catching people out of position. At least in LoL they've converted 90% of CC and big damage spells into skillshots.

LoL DOES have true melee carries and has for years, there are just certain metas where they got fucked. That hasn't been the case for a while now though because they've changed itemization and even the kits of certain characters. Characters like Jax, Xin Zhao, Illaoi, and Darius all become carries in the late game.

You should stop being defensive btw I have hundreds of hours in both games and don't even actively play either of them anymore. I'm explaining to you why Dota has so many downsides that it's not a fun game, which is objectively true given its low popularity relative to LoL.

>using playercount as an argument

>Nah, it sucks because the game becomes 100% a game of positioning instead of actual mechanics
That's completely fucking wrong.
The most famous dota clip out there is a team getting TOTALLY caught out of position and have teamfight ults thrown at them and they completely turn the fight around with fast reflexes and really smart ability use.

redbull.com/us-en/breaking-down-the-greatest-play-in-dota-2-history

Lol doesn't support shit like this anywhere near this level because the utility and CC in the game is so weak. The gold and number advantage has so much more impact there than it does here, turnarounds like this are much less doable.

Please don't try to argue about things you know nothing about.

>Characters like Jax, Xin Zhao, Illaoi, and Darius all become carries in the late game.
These are melee bruisers that can carry, they aren't true melee carries. Melee carries are things like Yi and Tryndamere, and when was the last time you saw either of them consistently picked in pro play?

>MMORPG
>Second Life

If only this picture was still true. Dota has devolved since 7.00 and has lost loads of complexity and timing roles. Talents do not make up for shit like spell amp, spell and attack range items, aeon disk, supports getting tons of free gold etc etc etc

t. Player with 4k hours who was at one point in the top 1% of Dota players worldwide

>Runescape at its core is such a great game, but the gameplay is garbage.
you're going to have to explain yourself better than that.

because there arent any other games to leave it for

>spell and attack range items, aeon disk, supports getting tons of free gold etc etc etc
Please explain to me how any of those things are in any way mutually exclusive to what that image is describing. It's still entirely how the game functions.

>spell amp
If you actually knew anything about this game you'd know that the game already had plenty of it even long before 7.00.

runescape was made by two dudes who just wanted to make a legitimately good mmo
if anyone tried that now it would either be a doa kickstarter mistake or a boring clicker game with a cash shop to please the investors
even runescape itself didnt survive time, rs3 being the cash grab that it is now
its only a matter of time till that shit seeps into oldschool too

It did, it's called Eldevin and it's fucking shit.

Runescape's game systems (quests, skilling, world, minigames, wilderness, etc) are amazingly well designed but the gameplay is just clicking. You click to move, you click to talk. Combat is click, wait, click food if you're low on HP, click spells or prayers. Every skill is the same thing gameplay wise - it's just clicking. The systems are fantastic. The gameplay? Absolute trash. Clicking is not engaging.

what would you even change though?

>its bad cuz i dont like it
lmao

Have you guys not played any other MMO? All you need is a MMO with everything Runescape has but with the movement and combat of an actual modern RPG, with skills each having their own unique gameplay mechanics or similar skills sharing mechanics. I obviously don't have all the answers, but that's what a team working on a game for a full development cycle is for.

Didn't some Jmod confirm a couple of years back that a runescape remastered mmo was in production?

so bdo then?

>Have you guys not played any other MMO?
Yes and all of them are souless shit except runescape

Holy shit I just now looked that up.
>Runescape Remastered
>Game Focus
>- Takes place at the end of the 6th Age.
>- Open more expansive world with the removal of the blocky grid-system/0.6 second tick system.
>- Added height features and a more 3D world than RS3 (think of Skyrim).
>- Allows for Offline skill training.
>To be Determined
>- An ability to shapeshift into a variety of NPCs/content.
>- Community oriented markets, cities, and other mechanics.
>- World roaming bosses for PvM.
>- Unique PvP interactions across the game world.

That sounds great, but modern Jagex might just milk it with pay to win garbage in a cash grab attempt.

Nope. BDO was fun but it felt like anything besides combat was a waste of time. You could make more money farming mobs for silver than anything else. AFK skilling is not fun. Also BDO doesn't have engaging quests and lore.
