Everyone wants to come home because what weve been getting for so long has been so disappointing, and there seems to be no end in sight except for the prospect of being able to replay our old games again.

It's not that there aren't good new games, it's that games are different from any previous entertainment medium in that they're an interactive world that the player lives in, and they become outmoded or unplayable very quickly due to technology progressing, sequels releasing, or massive expansion packs and content patches that overwrite the old experiences. With books, films and music the old stuff is always there to experience same as it ever was. With old online games you need these remasters/remakes in order to go back to them properly. Old single player games are easier to go back to but they can age very quickly and may need a remake just to be playable for modern audiences.
