Google console reveal at GDC

4 more days until the gaming landscape is changed forever. The big 3 are about to face its most powerful opponent yet...google....

Rumor has it that sega is a huge partner and google wants to revive sega ips.

Even if they're exclusive I'll be happy if they really do bring back some of Sega's IPs they've just been sitting on

Jet set 3 is going to be revealed in a few days

Googler hat

Oh shit Google has Somic as an IP they're unstoppable.

I'm a Google engineer, feel free to ask me anything. Although I am not allowed to break NDA.

This is literally what Sony did you mong

Are you going to give me phantasy star online 2

I'm more interested in the specs of the new Rift S at GDC

It's going to be a console to play phone games

I legit don't know, and even if I knew I wouldn't be able to say it, sorry. I'd hope so at least.

I sure am scared of spider hero game #2069492

Sony was working with Nintendo and had help developing the PlayStation for Nintendo originally.

I can't wait to buy Jade's console!

Attached: 1544529082117.jpg (1024x680, 118K)

They already did. This is going to be a legit console

what?

>console
It won't be hardware, we would have heard about it by now with leaked specs. Its just Project Stream aka a streaming service that runs on Chrome and likely any Android or Smart TV

I don't see how long-term they make money off of this, Netflix isn't profitable so why would a fucking video game streaming service be profitable when games are way more expensive to make? Video game licenses might be cheaper I assume, than to say get the whole catalog of Family Guy.

I could see them dump money to make sure Ubisoft's games are only avalaible to stream via THEIR streaming service. Physical and digital sales will continue as is, but competing streaming services cannot ever have a Ubisoft title

>so a thing that Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft did
I wonder how are those companies now

Either Nintendo or Microsoft are going to suffer from this. My money's on Nintendo, who will take the SEGA route and become an exclusive software developer. There's just no way their two-generations-behind technology can keep up with yet another modern machine.

There are two big pieces of evidence that this is a hardware announcement. First, Google is a heavily compartmentalized company, and the person promoting this event on Twitter is none other than Risk Osterloh, Google's senior vice president of Hardware. Osterloh is behind the division that brought us the Pixel phone, Google Home, and every other Google hardware product. His involvement is a solid sign that, yes, new hardware is coming.

>The second big piece of evidence is that Google is also hosting a teaser page on store.google.com. The Google Store. The Google Hardware Store. Google could host a teaser page at any of its thousands of sub-domains, but for some mysterious reason, it picked the Google Store. The "Google Store" doesn't sell software—that would be "Google Play." The Google Store only sells hardware—things like smartphones and tablets and laptops and Google Home speakers. Soon, apparently, it will sell video game hardware.

You fucking wish google fag

>Netflix isn’t profitable
He doesn’t know

If Nintendo were smart, they would add a streaming client to the switch, either for Steam (which now supports out-of-home streaming), or for this so-called Project Stream by Google. Japs absolutely love Google so I wouldn't even be that surprised.

That move alone would singlehandedly boost switch sales by a shitload.

I hope that’s the case and release an app for iOS I don’t want to be seen with a plebian phone

I'm not going to play laggy movie games on a gamepad.

>all these shook console fanboys burying their heads in the sand and shaking in their panties at their favorite companies are going to get btfo

Can’t wait

>switch can’t stream on handheld mode
They will literally has to kill the switch to enable the function

It's gonna usher in a new wave of the most toxic practices yet and everyone will lap it up like a bunch of fucking dogs as we all struggle to buy a gaming console that isn't even a gaming console to play games we will never truly own.

Yeah that's right I'm being a progress-hating old person. This technology is gonna suck.

>Jet Set Radio is going to be revived by real life’s Rokkaku Group
I don’t know if I should feel happy or disgusted.

It will work as long as you can run Chrome. Whether or not Apple/iOS will support Chrome bindings for things like controllers or on-screen touchscreen controls is a different matter though.

>meanwhile pc cucks do nothing but wait for ports for their 10k$ pc

What do you mean?

>using chrome while they can use a less resource native app
Kek

I've played with Project Stream. The technology is really impressive, performance is really good even if the game is streamed, you wouldn't even be able to tell. Especially if you play with a controller and you have a stable connection.

If they partner with Sega and actually show off revived IPs like
>Virtua Fighter
>Monkey Ball
>Skies of Arcadia
>Jet Set Radio
>Phantasy Star
I'm fucking in

Attached: sega.jpg (400x400, 15K)

Nope lmao

This is exactly what’s going to happen

Haven’t you play re7 or ac odessy on the switch?
You need either a nice WiFi or Ethernet port
Both of which removed the handheld mode of the switch

It could be both cheap hardware and a service that runs on existing things. If you don't own a Smart TV it could easily just be a box that connects to the internet to stream the games to connected television.

If Microsoft wanted they could go around and buy up huge publishers, but they don't/can't. I don't think Google will put all its weight into this gaming push, so all I can see is another streaming service that buys up licenses like all of Ubisoft but not Ubisoft themselves.

PS5 and Xbox Anaconda will end up shitting on it

why does my friend get offended when i tell him they he doesn't need to be signed on google 24/7?

Sonic 06 was supposed to be sonic adventure 3.
And you know how that turned out.

>Either Nintendo or Microsoft are going to suffer from this. My money's on Nintendo, who will take the SEGA route and become an exclusive software developer. There's just no way their two-generations-behind technology can keep up with yet another modern machine.
It’s doing fine against the current HD twins in spite of being an obsolete tablet. The only way the Googlebox is a direct threat is if it’s a fellow hybrid console and not a PS4/XBO set top box.

Even then, pricing and library are the main determinants. If that wasn’t the case, 3DO would’ve been more than a minor footnote in gaming history.

>can’t tell the difference between 1080p and 4K
>can’t tell the difference between 60fps and 144fps
Kek

"Native" apps are literally running on the chrome/webkit layer. Chrome is highly specialized and optimized for this, and works better than running some ad-hoc 'native' app with all the bugs and platform-specific problems that can arise from it. Chrome is platform agnostic, ubiquitous, and literally runs everywhere. It's not just a browser anymore, it's more like a whole ecosystem of services, drivers, emulation layers, virtualization, etc.

Dropping some insider knowledge.

The new JSRF will be announced. If you don't believe me check Naganuma's recent tweets. There will also be 3 more Sega IPs revived. All of them including JSR will have a 1 year exclusivity deal with Google's streaming service.

Nigger I never mentioned anything against the tech, I'm saying that even more manipulative business practices will be born from this. You think microtransactions are bad? Wait for the next killer app that all the streamers and 13-year-olds are playing via this console and watch them gate your connection/framerate lag behind a gacha-driven paywall. Itll be called "Connexion Crystals" and you need to spend it to get a good connection for your next fight.

Or something more ridiculous.

>Source: Work on ChromeOS
No wonder why it’s a flop since it’s developed by fatsos unschooled Yea Forums users

>All of them including JSR will have a 1 year exclusivity deal with Google's streaming service.
Cool, I’ll wait a year to be able to actually own them.

No, Microsoft worked with Sega on the Dreamcast. There was a version of Windows CE and DirectX developed just for use in Dreamcast games.

Attached: file.png (1600x1201, 1.42M)

Of course you can tell the difference, you brainlet retard, however this is literally a console 'for free' that runs everywhere and is streamed on chrome. You own a smart TV, you can play this. You own a chromecast, you can play this. You own a $100 PC with a chrome browser, you can play this. You own a phone? You can play this.

Of course they are compromises, it's not a full gaming PC or a fully-fledged console, however it runs games with better graphics than the PS4 Pro or a medium-tier PC simply because it's all rendered and streamed by massive build farms on the Google cloud. You might get some slight artifacts if your connection drops a bit, but the compression is really impressive. Framerate target of 60 (higher than most consoles these days), resolution target of 1080p (although I played it on 4K screens, but it gets upscaled, not sure about future plans), which is again better than most consoles nowadays.

ouya 2 electric boogaloo

And Google has just as much money as MS, if not MORE! and if the sega deal is true, then its obvious they are serious and they have the firepower to fight given an actual high tier developer trusts them.

Maybe Netflix is profitable after years, but making the same kind of service with vidyas is no small feat. For every player, it means they have to have the computational power for those players on their side. Putting a movie on a few servers and that's it is far more simpler and costs nothing, all the heavywork is basically done under the back of the internet providers that manage all the pipes for those parasites like Netflix.

>gaming landscape changed forever
Puh-lease, it'll be a halfassed attempt to cash in on the market like with Google+, it's gonna be a no games piece of shit that no ones going to buy or support because Google has no idea how to make anything more than a botnet search engine

>Puh-lease
Faggot

I hope Google is looking at reviving Billy Hatcher

I don't care if google, amazon and tencent all pull their shekels together to work on it, a streaming console is not something that will take off in the states.
Why? Because the average internet speed here is sub-third world. Only large and major cities have half decent internet speeds. Which means only a small percent of Americans would even feasibly be able to play vidya via a stream.

Then why can’t they make a single phone that actually gets mass market adoption in spite of owning the OS?

>For every player, it means they have to have the computational power for those players on their side

here
This is wrong. You just need to have proper capacity estimates for your cloud project and apply autoscaling and resource reservation for such estimates (machine learning is really good for this). You don't need to have resources for every player, you just need to have enough resources at the current time to cover for the current number of players. With the scale Google has, you can easily grow and shrink your machines according to the estimate load, provision more if you expect spikes, and relinquish hardware if your service shrinks.

Are you nuts? The only one here that would be unscathed is Nintendo. They actually have the games to sell hardware, their current console -and likely their next console will follow that path- is a hybrid, meaning it wins whatever happens : if streaming takes off, they can stream those third party games they actually don't have today on their console, and they still have the portability aspect where you NEED computational power (so, hardware) on the user side.

Heck, Nintendo actually has everything to win there.

My hope is Google or Amazon releases a system similar to Switch but with better hardware (Tegra X2 or Xavier) that can handle 1080p with a better life battery span. Rather than a stream thing that will have lag, no thanks.

They used to say that for Netflix as well until the ubiquitous usage of Netflix forced ISPs to upgrade or at least offer better services (at more shekels because US is cancer). This will definitely move the industry forward, especially with the deployment of 5G networks which is cheaper than re-building the entire wired infrastructure.

Meanwhile the rest of the world can already leverage the infrastructure they have and laugh at the US. I stream most of my games these days when I'm out of home (through Steam) and it works just fine over 4G, even when commuting on a crowded train to work with every normie on their phones watching youtube videos from the same relay.

Revive IPs? I can't wait for Panzer Dragoogle.

>30 to 100ms added latency
I'll pass

Attached: file.png (700x86, 9K)

Fuck off Moot.

How the fuck are people supposed to deal with this unless you're playing a strategy or turn based game.

Every $200 or more chinkshit already does that.

By the upfront cost of the games/hardware being cheap as dirt. Same strategy as mobage.

Either that, or having a physical media option.

100ms is the ceiling, you should never reach that unless you're on a very unstable and saturated connection. Basically don't let your little brother download porn while playing and you'll be fine (you'd be lagging in multiplayer games anyway).

20-50ms is more like the average and that's acceptable latency to have, especially since you can prioritize your input to use priority side channel/connections to bring it down to a 5-10ms delay (which is way less than your average non-gaming peripheral, let that sink in for a second) and apply different compression levels on your video/audio stream (based on personal preferences, just like with steam streaming) to get better looking games vs more responsive games.

It's basically going to become just another "graphics setting" in your games, like texture resolutions, shadows, reflections, bloom, etc. just "performance/quality streaming mode" or whatever.

To put it into context, your average non-gaming mouse/keyboard + monitor already adds up to 50ms of latency and the vast majority of players do not care nor notice these kind of things.

Personally, I play competitive shooters and fighting games and I am not able to put up with it for those games, but for 90% of the other games I play (like JRPGs, adventure games, non-hardcore platformers, etc) it just works fine. Hell, I've played destiny 1 from my PS4 streamed to my PSVita to another fucking country while I was on vacation and it worked just fine, and I don't have the resources that Google has for network connectivity.

only smart person in this thread

still don't know exactly what this thing they're making even is
How directly are they going to be competing with the other 3 anyway? Is this thing going to be niche or an actual heavy-hitter in the console market?

It's a shitty streaming based service. You play games by streaming them. Sounds like DRM to me, and I cannot imagine the input lag . It'll flop.

Will they have Ape Escape

I don't even think it's actually a console, it's probably more a online service
It will be something like PSNow. You pay a fee and you can access a certain number of games, you will be able to stream them from any device or download them locally if you have the hardware to do so
Their target is PSnow, Gamepass, and online stores such as Epic and Steam or whatever.

Four more days until Xcucks get fucked up the ass like a bitch.

>streaming
>as the whole console
fuck off gimmick fags

Not him but that doesn't really fix the issue that streaming game is way more compute intensive than streaming movie.

This alone already make this service pretty expensive.

Then you have the issue of game licence. Right now company can sell a game 60-70$, How do you give dev a deal better than that with a streaming service?

Moot, is that you?

Only if she personally masturbates with my console's controller

You know this is fucking google we're talking about. Those titles have 0 normalfag appeal. The big game for the Google streambox will be the android version of Fortnite.

I haven't played the "console", but I have played Project Stream. It's as fun as the games that are on it. The games we have access to are just a few for testing but they are well known famous triple A games (some of them I already played on my own, others I never owned so I played for the first time), I did enjoy them. The thing is fully playable and I didn't see any fundamental problems (other than your usual bugs that come with playtesting ofc)

Attached: surprised_nep_nep.jpg (500x500, 89K)

I don't know about the licensing plan but I imagine it would be the least of the problems. As far as compute intensive resources, I'd dare to say that if Google thinks they have enough resources to work it, then you shouldn't worry about it. Those people know what they are doing and their core business is literally on handling massively distributed systems, the largest in the entire world most likely.

It's not a console user

Google and atari-sama will dab on the video game Industry tommorow. Gamers will be forced to rise up.

The day of the controller will soon begin. PREPARE YOUR EDITIZED WOJACKS AND FACE FOR SEMEN!!!

atariposting was the only time wojak posting was ever fun

Attached: 1497905096525.png (1023x730, 297K)

I miss Atariposting from last year.

It's literally free as long as you have a chrome browser. You don't even need to buy the Google controller or whatever the fuck that is.

You probably do have to buy the games or whatever licensing/subscription they come up with, most likely.

Proof it’s streaming only?

>implying there will be 4
Google isn't making a console like Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft

0 effort wojak, that's not a Google hat, you just stapled a google logo onto a McDonald's hat or whatever that shit is.

They're gonna compete over the same games, so we will have 4 versions, 3+PC, of the same fucking games and a few retarded exclusives nobody asked for because they won't be developed under creative freedom of Sega of Japan.

Project Stream

Doesn’t mean it can’t play disc or games off the hard drive

No they're not. Google is just making a stream box.

>just "performance/quality streaming mode"
what?haven't pay much attetion to this but I thought the whole idea of streaming games is for toaster machine to have top quality graphics and to free devs from optimization hell as long as internet is good enough. google doesn't enter the gaming market for profit as their other business, it is always the other way aroud they have a technology breakthrough that can change the landscape of one area so they do it and happens to make a lot money

It can't. You're reaching at this point. It's just a stream box not a competitor to the big 3.

>it can’t
Google has literally made a streaming box with a controller before. It was called the nexus. Doubt they’re doing the same fucking thing with no intention of competing all while hiring jade raymond as vp amongst others

It's not going to be a console. It's going to be a box that connects to the internet to stream games

Its gonna flop so fucking hard I can't wait to see it.

I sure as fuck hope it flops, because the alternative would be streaming actually taking off

user it's just a stream box. You're setting yourself for disappointment

I'm not strictly talking about Project Stream, but streaming games in general.

All games are going to have the same settings as far as graphics or whatnot, since it's gonna be standardized (like on consoles). Of course you still have stuff like personal preference FOV, motion blur (garbage), sensitivity, and similar console-like settings. However, at the platform level, you will most likely be able to set what kind of connection you want. If you want fast-paced low-latency games you can decide to go on the "performance" mode and get more compression artifacts as your video stream will be optimized for that, whereas if you're playing a single player third person adventure "movie" game you might want to favor clean and crisp video stream, even if instead of 20ms latency you get 50-60ms (which is still not that noticeable on a controller).

I already do this when I play my steam games over my phone/tablet while travelling. Pic related.

Attached: streaming.png (541x500, 14K)

Vr. THIS WILL BRING VR INTO THE MAIN MAINSTREAM!
Then it will developeamd become cheaper and now I can play big titty games for the low price of $80-$100 instead of the current $200-$300

VR is probably the only category of games you won't be able to stream. The latency will kill you, literally.

I resent the fact that people who work in software call themselves "engineers".

How powerful will this Google console be?

Yeah, I wouldn't call myself an engineer, you got me there. I got a PhD in Computer Science, and I'm a computer scientist. Not an engineer. However the world still considers me an "engineer", which is fucking retarded. Not much I can do about that.

Attached: smug_nep.jpg (614x491, 110K)

DESU computer science is far closer to engineering than it is to actual science

It's closer to neither in my opinion. Computer Science is closer to Math and Philosophy (the logic branch, turing machines, theory of languages, etc) if anything.
But yeah, it's not a 'science' either, there's no scientific method in computer science. I agree.

Enough to be a streaming only device, most likely.

Seems like everyone's expecting a competitor to the xbone/ps4. I'm expecting something with raspberry pi tier specs

Lets be real, Google is hiring all the fucking rejects of the industry. Jade Raymond got dropped by two of the big publishers and rejected by the rest. Amy Hennig is a bad writer who has been tossed around from unfinished project to unfinished project.

Google is making a platform of outcasts to make some bullshit console with a couple first party games, a few 3rd party games, and a shit load of garbage phone games.

It's a streaming device.

Capped for when you seeth after google dominates gaming. You’re now a part of Yea Forums history ;>)

Lol. For the record the poster you replied to was being pretty toxic, but talk about out of the frying pan and into the fire

What does Sony actually uniquely bring to the table? At the end of the day its just another BSD UNIX gaming box that's well behind the curve compared to where GNU/Linux is these days. The only thing that they really have going for them is the single spec making it easier for developers, and Google is solving that problem with server side infrastructure provided by AMD, which was made possible by the excellent high-quality Linux drivers built by Red Hat and Valve.

The future is mainstream users gaming on streaming services running on GNU/Linux game servers, and the enthusiast niche market playing those same games on their own local GNU/Linux machines.

>provided by AMD

Attached: smug_nanachi.png (540x304, 116K)

Exclusives. That's it. It's a shitty PC with great exclusives

but linux is garbage and no one likes it except for virgins

You forgot yakuza

AMD SOCs offer the best price/performance for a 'console' style server, and for this application the fully open source graphics stack is invaluable. Intel+Nvidia would cost more and it would be open to cost manipulation by Nvidia seeking alternate licensing terms for their closed source graphics driver since it isn't licensed for large scale virtualization or server-side operation.

Paying for Windows licenses would make hosting a game streaming service unprofitable, and out of the Free OSes out there only GNU/Linux has received any kind of attention for gaming.

Google does not run AMD servers on cloud, user.

no actual games
all digital downloads from the google store

as in;
not a REAL system

If this is nothing but an Android Box with Google Play games only or just a box to stream PC games I will be mad as fuck. I want a powerful, potent machine with exclusive AAA games with face melting graphics and cinematic gameplay that shows billions of dollars were invested so they can scare the fuck out of Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo into shape cause this gen so far is so straight up fucking disappointing.

Attached: rage.jpg (300x309, 41K)

Not sure how I feel about google trying to break into the major console market.
But if there's one thing I can say about, it's that they certainly have the bottomless well of cash for it.

This thing is gonna be a worst joke than the Ouya.

You're right, they typically run ARM servers. However, getting developers to port their games to the standard APIs for Linux support is hard enough, and getting them to recompile to run on ARM is right out of consideration.
To attract devs the games aren't recompiled, or even ported, it has to be essentially a turn key solution for them.

Plus we know from the Project Yeti demo they did several months ago exactly what hardware/software setup they were using because patches for RadV and DXVK turned up related to Assassins Creed, the game in the demo. So its AMD's hardware + GNU/Linux + DXVK + Wine. Basically the only thing they possibly could be using to offer a game streaming platform capable of running modern PC games on remote servers delivered to players in a cost effective way.

It's allegedly some older Sega IP.
As a hardcore Sega fan, I would still never get a Google surveillance device in my house.

>streaming
Not a console. Not interested

If they're going to fund a bunch of games I can eventually pirate on PC more power to them.

I would have preferred Samsung or Apple.

> a box to stream PC games
Get ready to be disappointed then because that's exactly what it's going to be

>they typically run ARM servers
No they don't.

Samsung wouldn't have functionally been any different from Google.

Apple would have been worse since at least Google stuff by all indications runs on a very open stack which means the games might make it on to other platforms. If it was Apple running things the games would all have to run on Apple's proprietary Metal API.

I hope google just catch on fire and die in the console space, because something we don't need is games with expiry date.

Google is full of smart people, they should know they need a fucking bomb-ass series to sell with the consoles to enter the game
Also knowing Google, they have 0 experience with vidya outside of mobile games. So naturally, they must injected money into a game dev to revive a dead series.

what series do they need to revive for you to consider buying a new google console

I swear, the Sega IPs better not be exclusives. As bad as I want to play a new Jet Set Radio, Space Channel 5 and etc, I don't want to have to deal with getting another fucking console.

Attached: wojakgoogle.jpg (1920x1080, 621K)

I hope they do none, because every google console game is a game that will eventually cease to exist, and that's not something we should allow to happen.

people think this is what would happen with a sonic partnership but in reality it would go more like
>new sonic
>sonic collection
>phantasy star univers remake
>jet set radio re-release bundle
>more sonic
>bigs fishing adventure 4
>uhhhh more sonic
>sonic the movie: the game

Will give Naganuma money via bandcamp and wait for the steam release in that case.

If Google revives Sega IPs I could see them actually doing well.

Imagine Skies of Arcadia 2

Is googles console gonna be another shitty Android/mobile platform or is it going to actually compete with the big boys?

I associate Samsung more with hardware than Google. Google makes more money selling your information and they're socially/politically engaged so I wouldn't want that kind of shit on my gaming platform. Besides, we've already seen enough garbage android "consoles." Meanwhile, Samsung is an opportunity to have another country being represented in the console space.

As for what you mention regarding Apple, that's exactly why I'd be interested in seeing them in the console space. They have their ecosystem and the cash to optimize it to the max.

Of course that's just my opinion. You don't have to agree and I'm not arguing one is necessarily is better than the other. It's just what I'd like to see.

Well everything is pointing to it be streaming games, so it'll probably die early.

>hurrrrr durrrrr streaming only hurrrr
We know it’ll stream we just don’t know if it’ll be able to play games locally on a drive. If it does that’s direct competition to the 3

Who fucking cares. Nobody is gonna buy their shitty console, they're gonna make not a dent in the game industry it's just a push for more control, more of a monopoly and more over your data

Attached: 5eudtuj.jpg (500x500, 46K)

>Besides, we've already seen enough garbage android "consoles."
Samsung at least as of a few years ago had Tizen, their in-house embedded Linux distribution and a lot of skill on hand with the next-gen Linux graphics stack. I just have my doubts that Samsung would have more luck with a less familiar stack than Valve did with their relatively more familiar one.

The problem Apple has is that their Metal API is significantly behind the Vulkan standard, and I can't really see them being interested in the console space.

We don't need a new console. We don't even need more games. We just need games made for gamers instead of games trying to suck you dry or suck women into gaming.

If you've seen the console and/or any of it's designs, is it visually appealing? Or is it a generic box/tablet like xbox/switch?

Will the console be able to play current gen games locally (i.e. not streamed)?

Because women can't put down their fucking phones for 5 minutes.

Yes

Remember philips, atari and the bunch of consoles back then. It's the same story again user.

Can't talk about it, sorry.

I honestly have no idea.

Attached: tears_in_the_eyes.jpg (293x295, 25K)

>making google bigger
you do know microsoft is worth 1 sony more than them, right?

I hope you guys are all super-excited to have yet ANOTHER fucking console gobbling up exclusives. Now you only get 1/4th of them. Yay! Thanks so much for cheering on and supporting exclusives even though everyone told it would lead to horrible things.

Not even your opinion on if it looks good? Oh well, it's only a few more days anyways

t.poorfag

You know, we have been getting less games the last few years. I didn't think much of it because games take longer to make these days, but it's also possible that a lot of these dev houses have been making games for Google so they didn't have the manpower to make their usual pace of released games.

Food for thought.

My personal opinions (won't comment on aesthetics) is that it's a super cool project and I'm kinda hyped about it being released to the public. Personally I think I'll spend a lot of time playing on it but mostly because it aligns to my needs as an adult (long commute, lots of travelling, etc). I bet there's going to be a lot of backlash though, and I kinda sound like a shill, so take anything I say with a grain of salt. I legit just want to be honest with you (although most people won't believe me)

Google stopped being cool about 10 years ago. And they've bent to the left really hard so that 50% right-leaning part of the country hates them even more.

It was inevitable. The only thing that consoles have really offered for the last decade is an easy to use interface on top of hardware/software platform capable of playing games. Now basically anyone can take GNU/Linux + AMD hardware and build that.
The only real hurdle is getting it onto store shelves and not having the tech media declaring it dead on arrival in articles filled with Xbox ads.

But the latency of your shitty periphs doesn't go away. You now have to deal with your normal, shitty latency ON TOP of network latency.

>but it's also possible that a lot of these dev houses have been making games for Google so they didn't have the manpower to make their usual pace of released games.
lol

What are the odds that this is true?
What if it's just another Ouya?

after blizzard fired that many people? I doubt it

You are the first person I've ever heard say that you "wouldn't notice" even though we have 4 streaming game services in beta right now. EVERYONE says the response time lag is very noticeable and even with Japan's infrastructure it still wouldn't reduce the ping because information can only move so fast, even on an empty highway.

>long commute
is it a motherfucking handheld? or it streams to your phone? wtf

Did you see Google's game streaming demo?
All you needed for it was a device with a modern web browser.

Bloat is never better than being streamlined for 1 purpose.

Let me make it clear for you brainlet:

>be normie
>play on a 50ms monitor with a 20ms keyboard
>everything is fine as long as you don't get deep into competitive stuff

>be non-normie
>you have 1ms monitor and 1000Hz keyboard
>get extra 20-50ms from streaming a game
>still perfectly playable as long as you don't get deep into competitive stuff

If you're a normie and do the streamed game thing with your shitty peripherals... yeah sure but you're probably too retarded to notice, and if you play with a controller the input latency effect becomes way more tolerable compared to a mouse. This is my personal experience here, I play almost all my games these days streamed (PS4 streamed to PC, or PC streamed to phone via 4G while commuting, Switch on dock streamed to capture card) and it works really well for most (not all) genres/types of games.

Attached: thinking.png (1130x569, 953K)

It streams to anything that runs Google chrome. Your phone, your chromebook, your laptop, your chromecast, your smart TV, whatever the fuck you want.

Obviously not all devices might have support for controllers so we'll see how that goes, but in theory if it runs chrome, it runs project stream.

Studios have been closing down. The gap between AAA and indie has widened too much, killing most AA devs outside of Japan.
But you’re wrong. There are more games releasing nowadays. Too many, in fact. It’s just that they’re indie and on mobile, no longer getting retail releases and wide media coverage

As lovely as reviving Ecco would be, I don't want this device.

I think the creator was tweeting a year ago about having successfully wrestled the rights from Sega.

most women don't care about resolution or framerates. in an amazing coincidence, google caters to like 90:10 women:men

Basically, this is a 'console' for thots. They've been conditioning real gamers for a decade now to accept shitty games that toned down for women's delicate sensibilities and ease-of-trigger. this is just the next step.

>even with Japan's infrastructure
Japan's internet infrastructure is garbage, user...

I am and I legit play most of my games streamed and they work just fine. There is some input latency obviously and different people have different thresholds for what they find acceptable and what not. Maybe I have a very high threshold and I'm okay with a bit of latency for most of my games, but I legit only notice if I actually pay attention to it. If I am playing a game (as long as it's not competitive and requires twitch reflexes/reactions), I'll get immersed into it and I won't mind. This is *especially* true if you're using a controller. With a mouse it becomes more unbearable and obvious.

And just for reference, I play a lot of competitive CSGO (top 50 in my country, played with several well-known pro players, attended LAN events back in the day, etc) so I'm well aware of the requirements for a fast paced high-skill competitive game with high framerate, lowest possible input latency, high refresh monitors, etc.

WHERE IS MOOT BRING HIM BACK

>Nintendo - playing card company
>Sony - TVs/consumer electronics
>Microsoft - software
How does it feel to be this stupid?

Well that's a lot more from someone who's under NDA than I expected. Thanks I guess

The virtual impossibility of making money off of a mod, and the widespread availability of cheap or free game engines made the glut of indie games inevitable.
Basically the only way to make money off a mod is to get hired by the company whose games you modded (this is what Valve has generally done), or have enough of the rights to a mod to sell them to some company and fuck the community over (this happened to Nexuiz, now Xonotic).

>Nostalgiafags
How did your Red Dead Redemption revival work out for you? Resident Evil? I mean, honestly, how many revivals can you name that were true success and not just called GOTY by bribed ""journalists""? How many didn't sell a ton simply because of hype and nostalgia, but on their own merit as amazing games?

My balls. Old IPs should stay dead.

He settled the lawsuit he had with them. I don't recall any word on whether he obtained the rights to Ecco.

>t. buys 4 consoles & accessories just to play 4 different IPs.

>generic box/tablet like xbox/switch
>xbox/switch
spotted the Sonyggger

There's no evidence of any of that shit so fuck off. Every company does this shit anyway, I dont know where this meme started that Google is the source of it all.

Just what I wanted! A console that will ban me for antisemitism!
Pass.

>I'm a Google engineer, feel free to ask me anything.
Q. What do you know about what the AI boys are doing?
Before I got fired, we were working on an AI that can detect when someone's lying or deceiving. It backfired HORRIBLY when it started detecting SJW stuff as lies.
I tried pointing it at Jews to see what it did and I got fired before I could see the results. It'd be nice to know if we ever got results from that.

Does anyone think this will actually be a console to compete with the big 3?

>there's no evidence
>everyone else does it
>we didn't start it
>fuck off
you really are a google employee

Did I miss something?

Attached: rpolice_02_31.png (384x256, 68K)

>Q. What do you know about what the AI boys are doing?
I don't know, I don't really work with AI stuff and I couldn't really care less, to be honest.

>an AI that can detect when someone's lying or deceiving. It backfired HORRIBLY when it started detecting SJW stuff as lies.
>I tried pointing it at Jews to see what it did and I got fired before I could see the results. It'd be nice to know if we ever got results from that.
Okay I admit I chuckled, user.

>feel free to ask me anything
>except I won't answer any questions
You're like a TV psychic, faggot.

>"Is it a powerful console?"
>"I can't answer that, but the console needs to have power to run."
>"Is it an internal power source?"
>"I can't say, but it is either an internal power source or an external one."
>"Will it have new games?"
>"It will have games that are new to the system, but I can't say more than that."
>"Will it have free online?"
>"What I can say is that someone will pay for it and someone will not."
>"Will the console have a lot of exclusives?"
>"I'm getting close to breaking my NDA; I gotta go."

We all believe you, faggot. Just like we believe every faggot that claims his dad works at Nintendo.

tl;dr:
fuck and die

how about some experimental jet set?
youtube.com/watch?v=mQgO6EHnQRo

wtf I love Google Game now

Have you smelled Jade's sweet sweet brapps?

You know I had to try.
But when you can feed a bot its own mission statement and get it to beep at you, you have to wonder.

There he goes again. Either source me or fuck off. Every company tracks you, I haven't seen anything in the news specifically accusing Google.

Well here's to hoping it's actually hard drive'd and you play games by downloading/transferring them to the console from a digital file bought online.
It just seems like Google feels discs are a meme now, which might just be true.

Attached: grf_0_27.png (128x128, 36K)

Feel free not to believe me, I'm not going to risk my job answering retarded questions I am not allowed to answer anyway. I already gave you my opinion on it, and that's something I can give you. You are free to believe me or not, it's not like it matters. We are all anonymous on this site anyway.

>Red Dead Redemption
>nostalgiafag game
Try Red Dead Revolver revival.

>The big 3 are about to face its most powerful opponent yet...google....

I think it's going to be doing streaming gaming only really Microsoft will have to work flat out to fight google.
I don't think Microsoft will have a chance in hell of beating google either.

Sony and Nintendo will probably panic at first then realise if they stick to making singleplayer games and Mario/GTA/Dark Souls then they shouldn't have any issues.

>Google stopped being cool about 10 years ago
>Google
>cool
Compared to Yahoo, maybe

How do you live with yourself
Nintendo seems kind of close
Although I suspect that is based almost entirely on the value nintendo places on the bayonetta franchise

Ouya 2.0 coming soon.

>trying to force games as a streaming service to be the norm

Attached: self harm.gif (300x400, 1.84M)

No need to wait, the google console will probably get busted open instantly. Rumors say there will be a model that renders games locally, so you'll be able to pirate on that for sure.

Microsoft is still in the physical console business, dummy.
The NeXtbox will blow everyone away; no streaming-only, 3rd party turn necessary

Android and iOS kicked traditional gaming off its fucking throne and it kicked like a goddamn mule. If Google is taking this shit genuinely seriously, we're going to see some shit.

Think about it, they have to have been watching OUYA, Steam machines, Atari, etc. They should be very keen on what works and what doesn't when it comes to their own OS at least.

Microsoft is already Sega with Xcloud

>How do you live with yourself
I live pretty well, actually. I'm loving my job, got a lot of free time to play videogames (both at work and at home as well), good salary, mostly stress-free work, lots of flexibility and whatnot.
I could definitely be in a much worse position in life than I am now, and I am thankful that it's not the case.

Yeah. Traditional gaming is clearly dying.

This is the one

Attached: 37AA3727-9897-470A-9281-119A7419C20A.jpg (1345x1950, 1.53M)

>people think nintendo have is in any danger when they literally own the biggest and most profitable ip like mario or pokemon

the only in danger are dudebro like xbox or "hardcore" gamers like ps4 since google will aim at them.

Attached: 2qcds2.jpg (614x586, 36K)

your first point is misguided.
your second point is astute.

Why is trump the frame of reference they use here

Googler from here

>have to wear
We don't have to wear shit. Actually most engineers never wear those since we're the kind of no-bullshit no-social-fun-allowed person that doesn't put up with this. I've seen most people in the sales/business/marketing side of the company don them as a badge of pride during their noogler orientation week (or even after that) though.

From experience, we are usually given the hat on the Thursday after the 3-4 days orientation we go through and then we can do whatever we want with it. We are encouraged to wear it for the TGIF (company-wide social meeting on Thursday/Friday depending on the office) of that week, but it's not mandatory at all. It would be ridiculous otherwise.

Project stream will be on pc?

see

I don't see Xbox and Google competing next generation.
If anything, Google is going to bring Western-ish offerings (as Western as a Japanese company like Sega can get) to the West that not even Xbox is fulfilling right now.

COPE

so basically you posted a wall of text to say "Those aren't the technical employees"

If anything but the Game Store is based on Google Chrome, I'm not interested.

This. Google will get that support before Microsoft does.

Well Xbox doesn't even seem to care about that market anymore.
Phil hasn't said anything about a Sega partnership.
Hasn't said anything about a Tomonobu Itagaki partnership.
Hell, we haven't even heard of him trying the 360 strategy of getting developers to make exclusive weeb games, let alone ports.
It seems he's focused on the Western developers, like Obsidian and Team Ninja, who helped make the Xbox and 360 lineups great; which is fine, but Japanese developers played a huge role, we can't deny

God I hope not, I don't want to reafirm what I fear he has become

Too bad, I use superior firefox.

Attached: 1552711283534.jpg (654x754, 392K)

Yeah they did seem to give up on that market. Wonder how Japan will react to the Google thing.

Based as fuck. Firefox has been better for years.

That's cause Microsoft is getting out of the console game with their dick half cut off and just hanging there.

cringe
IceCat and Waterfox are the true patrician browsers

you all keep saying this as if the evidence you tout isn't just them multitasking

Your CEO said he would turn Xbox into a fucking service, and ramps on ambitions about next gen streaming technology. Microsoft were beat and beaten a year ago already, which is fair because it never invested into new IPs at the start of its fucking console generation.

Yeah this is why Google will beat Microsoft because they already have Sega in their pocket.

>Your CEO said he would turn Xbox into a fucking service
For people who don't own the console.
>and ramps on ambitions about next gen streaming technology
For people who don't have the console to play on.
>Microsoft were beat and beaten a year ago already
This gen was doomed from the start. Everyone agrees on that, even Phil Spencer would.
> it never invested into new IPs at the start of its fucking console generation.
And yet things will change this upcoming generation.
Look forward to seeing you in the next phase of the console wars.

>Google is basically Satan and big brother incarnate
>plus BONUS monopolistic tendencies
>responsible for nearly everything wrong with mobile freemium games
>They look like they're going to put out a game console
>people are actually excited for it
They're worse than EA and Activision combined and you people are actually okay with this?

Attached: 1534076918787.gif (581x327, 3.72M)

>temporary exclusivity
>explicitly barred from IPs they've used this gen

Gaming is a different industry.
Nobody ever mentions Sony's cameras and appliances when it comes to gaming, do they?
Nor does Microsoft's Windows division enter the Xbox equation very often.
Google gets a nearly clean slate here, especially if they're going to bring what people want, and their other bullshit intrudes very little in that.

Attached: 1473985118769.png (562x627, 564K)

Google can best Microsoft.

Yikes
