This game was very touching I don't think I've played something that was so clearly a letter written to the player from the creator. It was really cool to see him literally talk to me as his audience as he reflected on his year under bigger management and stuff. Really cool.
looking forward to NMH3
waste of dev time and money, it flopped as well. the switch didn't have any big releases in january, imagine if a proper NMH3 was released it would have sold like hot cakes
im stuck with the race game inside a game inside a game
"Fuck You it's January"
Definitely a contender for game of the year
that ending was tight as fuck, got really psyched hearing robin atkin downes again
it probably wasn't that expensive to produce and it's pretty much confirmed no more heroes 3 is already in development so it's not dependent on travis strikes again sales
there's hack and slash sections where u obtain new gearboxes thru the door
I played it, I liked it a ton
I wouldn't say it was masturbatory as much as it was self-reflective for Suda
>waste of dev time
how so? They produced a game that reconciled the story shit in the second game as well as let Suda kind of process and vent his frustrations with his career and the industry.
>it flopped as well
proof?
>imagine if a proper NMH3 was released
Imagine if Grasshopper had money to spend on a big project like that
it just seemed a bit strange having travis feel more like a suda self insert than travis touchdown in this game, although i guess you could just justify it with "travis is a weird nerd"
No more heroes 3 is better because of Travis Strikes Again
I didn’t buy it, but I want to.
It’s one of my favorite series, and despite knowing this isn’t NMH 3, I want to support Suda in his art.
I never even liked hack and slash or gore, but there was something so tasteful and blunt about how Travis experiences his adventure.
I kinda wish he had come to a close with his character arc tho, he’s a killer, but I wanna see him advance past his childish views on assasination.
Maybe the next one it could be more of a self defense thing, where people are coming to fuck him up but he’s trying not to go back to his old life.
I mean yeah right, but it’s nice to dream
i don't know if it's because of all the negative reviews surrounding this game and my expectations being pretty low but i had a pretty great time with it
at the very least it's one of the more memorable videogame experiences i've had in a while
Travis was always a self-insert.
The odd jobs you take on in the original game represents Suda taking on odd jobs just to become a developer and follow his dreams
I agree
Shit gameplay, don't know how many times I glitched this fucking game.
Story and characters were fun enough but a fucking slog to play through.
also,
the way i see it NMH1 was sort of suda's true vision and it seemed like there wasn't really supposed to be a sequel after that ending
he was alot less involved in the development of the second game and it ended up being pretty batshit,
the fact they only released the first game for the ps3 later is kind of telling too.
it's almost like NMH2 isn't canon
wo𝘢h
I disagree, gameplay was actually pretty tight, suprisingly the combat has more depth than NMH 1 & 2, I think the main problem was that the levels dragged on for too long
Well, to some degree, Travis was always Suda's sort of commentary on the mentality of the average gamer otaku, with delusions of grandeur and an almost psychopathic desire for supremacy.
But you have to remember that that idea of what a Gamer is like includes Suda. So, to some degree, Suda is talking with himself in TSA. With Travis representing Suda as a gamer (both the good and bad aspects of that) and Dr. Juvenile (whose name should tell you how Suda feels as a developer sometimes) represents Suda as a game creator
only had one major bug during the mech boss fight where the screen just went blank mid phase change, load saved it though
Well, the best thing about TSA is that Suda basically reconciles all the shit with NMH2 with Travis' true personality and character. He gets bored of being the best and just leaves and retreats from the world.
It kind of reminds me of GOW4's story in that way, with one of the original creators of Kratos coming back to reconcile all the shit that went on with GOW3
I'd like to have Shinobu and Badman as playable characters for NMH3, just hope they dont botch it like they did in NMH2
My room mate and I talked about how suda could have retconned 2 but he decided to keep it since the whole game is reflective of his entire career and he ends up very accepting and forgiving of the past without forgetting it but ready to move on. I think it says a lot about him as a story teller that he's willing to work with the narrative of 2 even after they retconned his nicely tied up story and message in 1.
yeah those platforming sections didn't look fun
doubt badman being a playable character though as TSA is pretty far in the future
Will no more heroes 3 have jumping?
What? Travis strikes again is the lead in to 3 and Suda even called it his "avengers" I'm sure badman is on the roster now that travis and him are on better terms.
i mean i guess there's still a chance he'll retcon it for the third one, we don't know
based on the short demo at the end of TSA, no
huh, i thought it'd place after the third game chronologically
That's true too, he'd rather incorporate everything into his journey instead of trying to make a perfect version of his storyline.
Doesnt TSA acknowledge 2 somewhere? Maybe I'm mistaken
Loved it.
Beat it on Bitter as Travis, then Spicy as Badman.
Now trying to level Shinobu.
I just wish I had someone to coop it with.
Welcome to Hell
TSA takes place after 2 and is also before 3
It's the kind of game that you'll only like if you love sudas previous work, simply because it's so clearly Suda communicating to his fans
still waiting for that Bad Girl dlc
This
I listened to the soundtrack before playing and I thought Welcome to Hell was awesome but by the time it finally came up in game I had completely forgotten about it so I got really pumped when it came on and I realised not only was it great but a boss song too!? Incredible
never too late to retcon
this design owns so much
I need the other high res bosses
As a Texan this game gave me a particular chub.
is this canon?
Has anyone done a translation of his rap? I only understand so much japanese. Only part that ever sticks to me is "Hero of darkness, a skull called Johnson"
It would be silly to acknowledge the game as a part of the greater message of acceptance that permeates TSA. If Suda has already acknowledge 2 as canon he would undercut his own message. He considers himself a writer first so I can't imagine him doing that. If TSA never mentions 2 and it's retconned later that's fine but if TSA acknowledged 2 as a part of its message and then 3 retcons later anyway? I really can't see Suda undercutting his own narrative like that
Piece of shit. Actually insulted from how bad it was. I'm starting to believe Suda never actually had any talent.
I'm trying to get into Suda's games. I've started with The Silver Case on Steam. So far it feels kinda clunky, I've only finished the very first chapter. What's with that gameplay? I would've unironically preferred it to be a straight-up VN instead.
maybe? depends on what happens in the Bubblegum Fatale DLC, also Shinobu calls Travis "master" so it definitely takes place after 2
Fuck I should've been specific. I meant his rap in the Eight Hearts fight not the original one.
all of the designs were based
Only steers and queers come from Texas.
Oh I know, I was just being an asshole.

This has the translation in the comments.
It references Bishop's death, and has Shinobu treat Travis as her master, which she only did in 2. I don't think it ever mentions Sylvia or the UAA, though
Some levels could be cut a bit, like 10%. But the neighbourhood puzzles and the last level could be cut a good 35%
Thanks you nice asshole
Doesn't talking anime Jeane mention something about Travis leaving Sylvia and his kid from the end of 1 to go live in a trailer in the middle of nowhere?
This game filled the void of disappointment that KH3 left. It's a great game
bold take, intriguing
