Remember when the whole game fit on a CD?

Remember when the whole game fit on a CD?
Remember when there were no 50 GB of "update", no paid dlc, no microtransactions?

Remember when you could lend a game to a friend and he would let you borrow another?
I guess not.

I remember bro

how do you deal with 2019?

I personally am stuck in a limbo of pirated single player games

Attached: final fantasy IX.jpg (1593x1121, 437K)

you still got everything in a single monetary transaction and a single box.

>tfw you never had Action Game in your childhood

what about Other Action Game?

>Moving goalposts already
/thread

Me too, bro.
At least it's easier than ever to find some torrent

they made a sequel?

Yeah, until updated versions of the game came out that added more content to it or fixed bugs and whatnot.

ALL OF THE DAY BRO

I know, user. I thought it was just a fun technicallity to point out.

>they made a sequel?
not exactly

Based italian of patrician taste bro

They should bring back memory cards

Tarzan was a kino disney game

HERCULADE

love that the last thing in that title is the setting of the game

Remember when our communites weren't polluted with niggers and third world filth? I rememeber.

So are these just a result of bad translations, or are these bootlegs?

>Boss, we can't have all of this content on a single CD, there just isn't enough space on there! We'll have to cut a bunch of content and rework the entire story!
>"Lmao, CDs cost like ten cents, just put later parts of the story on different disks fag."
>What, and not adhere to the stupid industry standards? You're a fucking madman!
I don't know where I was going with this, but basically there are very few companies willing to make more content that they are required to, and most of them skimp out on everything they think they can get away with. The only game I can remember that actually had more than one disk was Red Dead Redemption. Not sure which one, but one of them had multiple disks.

of course I do
things change, even if you autists won't

why euro disney is so good?

>Remember when you could lend a game to a friend and he would let you borrow another
Stay mad digital only fags

No need to appeal to the braindead English speaking demographic.

>lending a game to a friend
>he doesn't move to the other side of the planet the next day
I don't believe this man has ever lent a game to anyone.

Attached: 0da.jpg (640x499, 62K)

Disk space has hugely increased these days to the point that it's not as much of an issue. What causes games these days to need splitting onto multiple disks is when there's an enormous amount of voice-acted dialogue in the game since audio has fewer tricks to compress the file size without compromising on quality.

The game environment takes up less space because there are tricks for efficiently storing textures and geometry.

That's probably why the last game you remember having multiple disks is RDR, rockstar games have a ton of dialogue in them.

europeans don't move every 6 months like americans

when i was a kid watching american movies I was really disturbed by this

>lend my 2ds to "friends"
>2 years later I still asks him about it and he still doesn't give it back
>but whenever he could he would get involved in plan with mutual friends
Considering asking police to arrest him for theft, since I still have the serial code and the box with me

Stop playing AAA shit and you'll find plenty of games still follow the "ship a complete game" mentality.

yea, literally all of my relatives live in my city besides a few that emigrated 50 years ago and never came back

>Remember when you could lend a game to a friend and he would let you borrow another?
You realize you can link your Steam account with your friends' and it lets you share the games, right?

>tfw i was the one keeping the games of other people

i have a shitload of gameboy that are not mine

I remember using floppy disks to load number muncher and oregon trail.

Attached: 222971-number-munchers-apple-ii-media.jpg (800x813, 120K)

t. literally just fractically googled "what are some floppy disc games"

I was born in 1987. The computers in our elementary school were ancient apples. My first computer was an Atari ST my dad got from a friend for $25. My second was a cobbled together Win3.x that took me ages to get the dot matrix printer working on. My first two consoles were the Atari 2600 and Odyssey2, since we were low income. It was pretty crazy going from those games to my friend's N64. I think the first "new" game I ever saw was Shadows of the Empire, blew my mind.

Attached: Bulzeeb.png (360x450, 106K)

not bootlegs, it was how disney branded these games when they got ported over from console to pc.
I think they did so with all their early 3d platformers, at least in Europe (pic related)

emulation and the miraculous not shit indie or title like DMCV tide me over while i pray for a crash

Sorry but the industry is never going to be good again, and there was nothing we could have done to stop it. It happens in every medium, recorded music, film, and now gaming. The creators and businessmen who while they might not create themselves they care about the core consumer create the company. Then the corporatists take over and they see the medium only as product. They will care only about trying to keep costs low and making sure what is produced is dumbed down enough to appeal to the widest range of people. It's why older music is better. It's why older film is better. It's why gaming is dead now compared to the golden age. Just feel lucky you got to experience the golden age if you're not a Zoomer

this is why I pirate and emulate.

these

Giving money to corporations like Disney and Sony should be against the law.

would have terrible side effects, the real issue is societal values and that's an issue across the board

people settle for shit all the time because they're lazy and gullible and dont understand they could literally have it all if they'd just put their money where their mouth was and show the producers what they want

it doesn't help that gaming press is literally just a mouthpiece for gaming studios constantly spreading misinformation

what is the point in "choosing with your wallet" if a single whale then goes and buys 1000$ of lootboxes?

that's the brutal reality isn't it, if the masses dont vote with their wallets nothing will happen, whales cants exist if there arent any games that have a playerbase of regular people but those regular people keep shoveling shit into their mouth like it's candy

i mean this is true for music also, film too

Is it a shit idea to ship games on flash drives instead of discs if they're too large?

read speeds of flash drives differ greatly from discs, there'd likely be a big data bottleneck

>nephew showing me his XboxOne
>playing Crash Bandicoot
>game suddenly stops
>"you have been signed out of XboxLive - reconnect to resume playing"

OH NONONONONONOOOOOO

i only remember games with multiple disks because the more the better, right?

Attached: 20170525_163038.jpg (1304x768, 289K)

You mad at the mandatory 50gb update for Division2 bro? Me too

is that real?

I don't have a current gen console

No, but from the perspective of an executive why spend more then $0.05 (the manufacturing cost of individual blurays) when most consumers seem perfectly fine with digital codes?

>Is it a shit idea to ship games on flash drives instead of discs if they're too large?
costlier for producers

I just let it download the updates. I don't have third-world internet so it's not a big deal to me

Black Ops 4 on PS4 requires minimum 100GB of free space for any sized update, no other game does this. Wish I could get my money back

Yes. It literally took him out of the game because his connection dropped. And this is a single player game. He also had to sign an EULA statement before playing. Seriously wtf has happened to gaming?

Remember Microsoft's xbone reveal and the always online shit they pushed and the backlash had them reverse direction? It turns out they didn't back off it 100%. Much of the basic functionality of the xbone is tied to Microsoft's servers, there was downtime for Xbox live a few weeks ago and people would just see black screens when they turned on their Xboxs.

why would you play a black ops game

This game was pretty sick as a kid.

how does it not introduce latency then?

And NES games are like 5kb.

Attached: 20190312193146_1.jpg (1920x1080, 356K)

>posts the epytome of everything wrong with current gaming industry

the sad irony is that you weren't even ironic

None of the game is being rendered or processed online, just verification and maybe some menu and UI functionality of the console itself.

>>posts the epytome of everything wrong with current gaming industry
ah yes, a game that is literally pure gameplayer is everything wrong with vidya. kys momo.

then why the fuck does it kick you out

wtf I'm mad

Didn't have enough time to play vidya properly after work so I bought some casual dudebro games to pick up and play (Blops and Fifa)

I've been off all this week so I've finally gotten round to playing persona 5 though, should be finishing it today hopefully

H E R C U L A D E

La noire had 3 disks for Xbox 360. I believe one was the install disc for maps and music or something, the other 2 were the story.

I have to assume it's the license verification. Sony's policy is something like a week between verification scans, but I guess Microsoft does it every few minutes. It's bullshit but nobody seems to care since I didn't even know about this shit until like last year. You'd think stuff like this would have been reported on at launch of the console because Microsoft claimed they "listened to the consumer feedback".

Look at this funny little homonculus

People with no real roots to bind them to their mother soil are more prone to to vagrant lifetstyle ie. americans

Are you guys third worlders? 50gb takes at most an hour to download and hard drive space is incredibly crap cheap. Even if you don't use mechanical drives, SSD are under $90 for 1TB, there's no excuse.

That just reeks bad management. No small update should be mandatory to write half of your game all over again

ever heard of principles?

I have a 200 Mbit connection

My internet is fine and I have plenty of hard drive space. My concern is ownership and long term support. Sony and Nintendo have a precedent of shutting down online services and downloads, my Wii VC games will be lost if my Wii ever dies and I replace it because I won't be able to redownload the games. My entire ps4 library doesn't fit on it's drive, so if I want to reinstall a some games I deleted after the servers go down the game is most likely incomplete because of patches I can't download or even post launch content.

optical media is literally just a cost saving technique
there's a reason computers don't use it anymore, it's been obsolete for years

Remember when you would let a friend borrow a game then you had to bug him about it for weeks before he reluctantly returned it to you, and it was disgusting?
Alternatively, remember when you let a friend borrow your game only to return it years later but it wasn't even your copy, it was his own copy that he broke?
This digital age is the perfect excuse to never have to lend your games, I will NEVER look back to physical again.

My friend loaned me practically half of his PS1/PS2 collection before he left for the military. He had all the rare shit like Suikodens, Lunars, every single Square title, and almost every good PS1 game.
He came back 5 years later and just sort of forgot about it. He's also a huge homo now, so I don't really talk to him anymore.

>Buy a physical game
>Have to wait for it to install on my system
>Have to worry about how many gigs it takes up despite being on a fucking disc
I miss the old days so much.

these are good, what happened to good licensed games

>Not sucking your friend off while he plays Breath of Fire IV and Vagrant Story
It's not gay, user.

What's the difference between pc and console at this point?

>PC
>Literally days before it's finally installed
>PS1
>Loading screens were a bitch and a half
>N64
>Pure bliss

Attached: 1546818754667.png (1920x1080, 40K)

>what happened to good licensed games
this is a better question, you don't really seem them these days

>these are good, what happened to good licensed games

Disney found it made better money buying Marvel and Star Wars

if only we could get a new Jedi Knight game

>Implying that the entire game isn't on a CD already
Try shutting off your Internet and you will see that the entire game is on the CD.
>no paid dlc, no microtransactions?
Yes, what of it?
>Remember when you could lend a game to a friend and he would let you borrow another?
I remember borrowing a game and it being damaged on return, if it was returned at all.

I already did that with my gf

>PC
>Literally days before it's finally installed
took maybe 10 minutes on our family computer depending on what game it was. But as a kid that felt like days, sure

nigga that was 30 years ago. Get with the times.

The pure, raw processive power

>Get with the times.
I don't want to.

>N64
>Pure bliss

>everything is compressed to fuckersville, virginia

I often forget how awful the PS1, 2 and 3's loading times were. Even the PSP was nightmarish with it's UMDs.

>N64
>Pure bliss
More like no games

then waste away away and suffer like those before you

swapped my copy of LOTR: ROTK for my mate's copy of LOTR Two Towers and his mum ended up selling it to cash converters

still hurts

Attached: Sad_Milhouse.png (512x384, 213K)

I'm talking like GTA 1-3 downloads.
Math Blasters was nothing.
Yea but it was still fun.
I got so impatient with the Spyro loading screens alone man.
Gauntlet Legends
Jet Force Gemini
Chameleon Twist 1 and 2
Bomberman 64/Hero
Fucking Kirby and the Crystal Shards
What world are you living in?

Attached: 1542626055100.png (827x883, 724K)

>What world are you living in?
probably Europe
Nintendo is for fags here

Nintendo these days? Makes sense.
Nintendo pre-wii? You have my condolences. It was a glorious time.

I move all the time but that's because my father was in the Army and I chased jobs around the UK and Europe until I too went into the Army.

I think I've moved 11 times in 10 years.

I remember when whole games were on floppies. Bless the SNES floppy cartridge thing.

>Borrow rad PS2 surfing game from a good friend
>Even though I played it like a motherfucker it ended up getting scratched to oblivion
Shark mode was awesome too. But I still feel terrible about it to this day.

>I move all the time but that's because my father was in the Army and I chased jobs around the UK and Europe until I too went into the Army.
good goys

30+ grand a year to drink tons and play around with tanks while getting training and qualifications that mean I can get a job anyway in a managerial role in the world afterwards.

Israel must be proud
