Final thoughts now that it's dead forever?

Attached: 3DS.jpg (900x566, 53K)

3d gimmick was pointless and they should have spent the money on making a better screen. it also doesnt have as many good games as the ds. i feel like the ds had more original ips that were exclusive imo

I wish it never existed.

Thanks to the backwards compability probably the best handheld ever. It's a shame the 3D wasn't really able to live up to its potential, I liked it where it existed, but everything always had to accomodate the non-3D option as well.
Also definite proof that games don't need to look great to be great.

It was fun and had a lot of great games

It was lacking in original titles compared to the DS. It just felt like a lackluster followup.

I feel like one of the worst downgrades from the DS to the 3DS was the implementation of region-locking. That was just lame.

With that being said, I really had a fun time with all of the online games. Probably a better online experience than what I had with the Wii.

2012-2014 were probably the best years for it but pretty much everything that came after that was kinda meh
but really good for backwards compatibility for older consoles

Was super cool as the DS, but the 3D console was hellish

Any recommendations?

pretty much on the same tier as the GBA, DS and Vita, many good games, but some genres are nonexistent on it

PSP will always remain as the handheld with the most well-rounded library

the dual screen gimmick is shit and I'm glad it's over

I thought it was pretty great. Mini-maps and inventories were nice to have on the bottom screen

Original DS had one of the best libraries of any console. I really don't understand why the 3ds had so many fewer great games. The console sold well enough. Maybe a bunch of developers moved to mobile gaming, or they didn't get the ROI they expected from the DS games they made.

>pretty much on the same tier as the GBA, DS and Vita

Nah, GBA and DS are top 4 games libraries, along with PC and PS2. 3DS was decent overall but paled in comparison to the original DS.

The utility of the Pokenav+ was just fantastic. Will suck to play SwSh without a lower screen.

For the people saying the 3DS had fewer games, it's simple. You can make lower budget games with the DS. It's like how there are dozens of great games for the PS2 vs less than a handful for the PS4. Reminder that muh graphics is cancer and killing the industry.

this delusion

What happened?

I understand that they chose to do 3D as to put emphasis on the fact that it's a new console, and just just an upgrade of the DS (a la DSi). However I think it would have been much better without the 3D gimmick.
>Drop the 3D
>Include backwards compatibility with all previous handhelds or at least include GBA virtual console
>Have a better selection of VC games rather than the same NES games we've been playing for years.
It could have been a much better system than it was. Seriously if they handled VC pretty badly. The classic Pokemon games didn't release until 5 years after its release. They released SNES VC too late into its life, exclusively to the new model at that, and with a microscopic selection.

Attached: Homer Suggest.jpg (480x360, 12K)

it's dead
not much else to it

Disagree. "More ancient games" isn't going to fix a platform. That only pleases a small hardcore crowd.
3D may have been the wrong gimmick, but VC would be a worse replacement.

When?

Attached: 1552115483503.jpg (500x426, 10K)

???
no games
no new buyers
and to answer OP the 3D was a fucking mistake. bought the original 2DS instantly and never looked back. The fact that one of the core handheld games that sell systems didnt even support 3D (pokemon sm) should have told you everything.

It reminds me of how at the start of the DS lifespan EVERY game forced you to use the touchscreen. and then people realized that was retarded and mellowed out. by the end of its lifespan the touch screen was perfected to be a glorified menu / extra button screen with most games actually utilizing the dual screen/ extra button gimmick more. likewise with the 3DS devs realized that the extra horsepower was worth dropping 3D for.

isn't it kinda obvious
they didn't mention the bloody thing once in the last direct

It still has one final game.

Attached: Persona Q2.jpg (656x600, 99K)

the 3d is great fuck everyone who says it isn't

I will miss Etrian Odyssey

we're not saying it isn't great
we're saying it's a dead platform

Pretty sure it still gets game released.

What if I never was interested in handheld? Did I miss out on any legendary titles? Any games to be referenced for years to come that deserve it?

hell yeah
the circle pad is awesome too

yeah do they sell well though

it has the best version of Streets of Rage 2.
also Project X Zone 2 was really damn good.

still holding out for Trauma Center: Under the Knife 3DS

Ignore that shit, just replay Etrian Odyssey games

I'll never forget you, 3/DS.

I dont know why switchfags shit on this so much, all systems have a slow start as it stops rolling out its older console.
3ds got so much hate.

It's also apparently getting two more multiplats in 2019 outside of that last exclusive you posted.

there's still a chance the next Utawarerumono game comes out on it so I'll keep mine just in case

Is the best portable console ever created, such perfection will never be reached again let alone surpassed.

it's really not that good in any sense hardware wise, and the OS is annoying. anything will float with Nintendo exclusives though.

Attached: IMGP8532_small.jpg (1920x1080, 351K)

I never said VC alone would fix the issue. It was just one of my personal issues with it.
Another strife of mine would have to be lack of mainline first party titles in its life. It took 2 years for a Link Between Worlds to come out, 6 years for Metroid, and a pretty underwhelming launch.

Finally jrpgs are free of it's clutches.

I will continue to play it for the coming decade, as nothing can really replace it, and I'm not gaming on my phone's touchscreen.

So how many 3DS exclusives ended up using the n3DS's extra hardware for improved graphics and/or framerate? It feels like a missed opportunity, after MH4U I hoped it would become standard.

240p was already had on release
Good riddance

i enjoyed its games 2bh

The fuck are you on about? Did you mean to post a picture of the Vita instead? Nintendo isn't going to kill off the 3DS before making an actually pocketable Switch.

Vita just had a game announced for 2020. It will never die.

I don't understand how it was possible that Smash ran great on o3DS but Pokemon SM which has worse and less intensive graphics choked a N3DS

if such a device had backwrds compatibility i might actually buy 3ds games

how about that last direct huh

Most uncomfortable handheld I own.

A lot of the games weren't memorable. Not half as good as the DS.

*blocks your path*
>it’s a picture of the brand new GOTY JRPG on the nintendo switch in 2022 which looks like complete ass comparatively to every other system of the time and runs at a silky smooth 10 FPS but despite this will unfortunately be one of many games staying exclusively on the switch for another couple of years due to sony’s new western values alienating japanese devs (doubled down after the outrage articles which spawned from the olympics), microsoft having a existence in japan and PC gaming being a confusing maze of numerous spyware-infested launchers and forced DRM which will make any interested parties forced to get the game illegally thereby not supporting the devs and turning them off for porting the game to pc

Except the Vita was actually discontinued and is no longer in production.

microsoft having a non-existence in japan*
also something about google and their streaming service

will i ever put my cock into a girl again? the same shit just keeps repeating.

if you’re already past your prime (24) you’re fucked until maybe some desperate granny wants to fuck at the retirement home so pray you don’t get dementia by then

>looks
>t. roastie

It has a decent library on it's own, can play DS games without a flashcart and has native GBA
Buy a vita and 3ds, hack them, and you have access to literally thousands of games.

>I’ve only used the 3D once back in 2011 and never touched it again.

> this fucker somehow survived alongside the wii, wiiu, and switched.

>Kirby’s epic yarn came out around the same time as the 3ds and is the last first party game on the 3ds

Yeah but it's not 240p so I'll put up with it.

I feel like I was the only person who liked the 3D gimmick. For 3D-action games it really helped me out when it comes to gauging the distance between you and the enemy. Not saying it was necessary but I just really don’t think it deserves the hate it got.

Esna is CUTE!

Attached: IMG_7801.jpg (633x900, 103K)

>Kid Icarus STILL the unmatched, undisputed crown jewel

The original DS was better in every single way.

Dead doesn’t necessarily mean a bad thing user. The 3DS has a great run, a long ass run. Time for it to rest.

This game seriously needs a remaster on the Switch or something. It doesn’t deserve to die the way it did. But the devs were retarded for releasing it at the same time as the Switch’s launch.

How many years do we got left to wait?

I had fun while it lasted and I have some really fond memories with it in my first years of university. Other than that, I never actually used the 3D feature except maybe when I bought it, which I found out it's pointless and shit. It was a good run, great memories with friends.

Esna a dead
Shit controls, even shittier fanbase
3DS > DS
>inb4 b-b-b-b-but why?!?!
Because the 3DS can play DS games you dumbass.

ya I liked it, they should have dropped the gimmick and just given us a really good upper screen

>you will never again experience the small joy of opening your 3DS and seeing all the people you have Street passed

>Because the 3DS can play DS games you dumbass.
But the DS can play GBA games which shits all over whatever the 3DS has to offer on it own. Also the original DS' button layout is way better than the 3DS

>tfw you’ll never find a Nintendo zone again

>Last streetpass on april of 2016
It hurts

3DS can play DS games without a flashcart?

The 3ds can run gba games natively. Nintendo even gave people gba games for free if you got the 3ds early, and now that the 3ds has been busted open you can put any gba game in and it runs perfectly

Attached: 5C6C9E50-0029-48C5-AB9D-78C62C27C213.jpg (970x728, 86K)

I'm meeting daily at least one person.
It's my gf.

I'm not paying the jews at nintendo for GBA games I already own. Also homebrew isn't argument for how good a console was because if that was the case the Wii would be the greatest thing ever created.

Yeah but it’s pretty buggy. You’re better off getting a flash card desu.

Attached: 434DD6A0-3D0A-4165-B472-FC8905F1EC73.png (715x400, 156K)

>continuing to post made up claims

The 3DS still has the hardware to play GBA games natively and you can load them from an SD card rather than needing a dedicated GBA flash cart.

retard. Using that mindset PC is the best Nintendo platform ever.

>product is discontinued therefore i no longer use it
No idea why people do this

>paying the jews at nintendo for GBA games

The gba games are free

If I wanted to play GBA games through homebrew I would just emulate them on my PC.

>the 3ds has gba hardware so gba games run perfectly
>3ds is portable and is better than seeing the game stretched out on a pc
Despite only porting 5 games for free Nintendo never used it

>why use something that you can shove in your pocket when you can use a significantly larger device to perform the same task

>Psp
Ah so it's ps vita

digital only, downloading that shit off pkgj immediately

>>why use something that you can shove in your pocket when you can use a significantly larger device to perform the same task
I'm not the kind of guy to play games out in public if i'm going outside its to do something.
Also even if I did want to play games out in public I would use the original DS seeing how it has a better button layout.

>playing games outside
>not laying on your bed and playing games feeling cozy

Again I would want to use the original DS in this situation considering I can use my original carts and the button layout is better.

>Because the 3DS can play DS games you dumbass.

What a dumb attempt for an argument. Are you a teenager or something?

Attached: 1449182670419.jpg (640x421, 15K)

It was worth it for Etrian Odyssey

Attached: 1550717736768.jpg (617x878, 645K)

PC is the best overall platform ever, however it cannot fully emulate 3DS games yet nor play them as how they are meant to be played with the touch screen, the same applies to DS games, giving the 3DS an unique gimmick that cannot be done on PC as well.

So the best possible combo is 3DS + PC.

DS>PS Vita>PSP>3DS

the day we get choicest voice online multiplayer through citra will be peak humanity

games like Yoshi's Crafted World and Xeno 2 say otherwise

I suppose the series can rest with the console’s end. Can’t see how else it can work on any other console.

For the first two years of launch it wasn't worth it. The PS vita had a better launch line up and was the better portable console during it's first two years. To this day I found it really odd that the tables shifted so quickly going into year 3 and onwards.

Attached: 1552611848321.jpg (768x768, 45K)

the dual screen gimmick is immensely convenient and useful even if its not used for an active role

DS but more stuff and even better piracy and homebrew. Can't complain. Still use it and probably will for a good few years down the line.

>People saying the ds is a better system

>yet the 3ds can nativity play ds and gba games became it uses it respective hardware

>emulators aren’t 100% perfect and some games are literally unplayable on Pc

You guys are fucking contrarians. Buy a used 3ds, sd card, and a flash card. You get all of this for 50 bucks and you have access to thousands of games that run perfectly

Attached: DBD720C6-D64C-458C-B9C8-6784E6D51309.jpg (204x247, 7K)

Pokemon X/Y was the most fun i've had in vidya in a long while, the character customization, friend code sharing, safari's, shiny hunting, online battles, etc.

I'll never forget it

Using homebrew as an argument is retarded.
The base DS is better than the base 3DS now go cope somewhere else.

Don't try to make them understand, all that people are simply retarded and cannot see that the 3DS is a direct upgrade of the DS.

Being dead means more room for unlimited HomeBrew potential

The base 3DS can play DS games too you retard.
>not using the console at it's fullest potential
Why contain it's power user? you are missing out.

>The base 3DS can play DS games too you retard.
Yes but it can't play GBA carts and the 3DS library nowhere near close to make up for that.
>Why contain it's power user? you are missing out.
I have a homebrew'd 3DS I only use it to play 3DS games because the button layout on the original DS is better for everything else.

People are comparing libraries, retard. Same shit with GBA vs DS or PS1 vs PS2. Get out 80 IQ brainlet.

nowhere near good enough* I had a stroke for some reason

You are right, there is like one shooter and 2 racing games on 3ds. Psp is my favourite handheld.
Psp>gba=ds=3ds (i have similar opinion about all of them)>vita

The only argument that other nigger even have is muh button layout when it’s literally the same shit except for the d-pad and the addition of nipple nub and shoulder buttons. I can’t even tell what he’s trying to go with that.

>I have a homebrew'd 3DS I only use it to play 3DS games because the button layout on the original DS is better for everything else.
That sounds more like your personal autism user.

its lit
I can play every nintendo console on it except n64, gamecube, wii/wiiu and switch.

Doesn't change the fact that I was originally talking about the base capabilities of each console you autist started crying about homebrew shit.

Is fun because the 3DS can play both GBA and DS games when hacked, so realistically speaking it owns both of those libraries + it's own library.

>when hacked
Based retard missing the whole point

>base capabilities
>it uses the hardware of the ds and gba
>without home brew you can play every ds game including dsi ware games and it runs perfectly
>Nintendo even gave out free gba games on the 3ds

this
still a neat console
spent too long playing bad atlus remakes instead of better games though

while it did sell well it was still like half as much as the original DS

Attached: vivian_large.png (1081x1111, 138K)

Still sounds like autism, you are basically limiting the power of a console whose potential was unlocked.

If you wish you could give the fucker a big SD card, fill it with the entire GBA library, as well as the best games from both DS and 3DS's library, customize the theme so it fits your taste, arrange the games however you like and have a console with nearly unlimited play potential, a single console with 3 huge libraries, and that isn't even counting the extras like NES and such.

Like i said before retard the 3DS library isn't good enough to make up for the lack of GBA cart support.
>Nintendo even gave out free gba games on the 3ds
Oh thank you Nintendo for 10 GBA games that totally makes up for not having the entire library playable.

if you don't hack your consoles, you're the retard

>Still sounds like autism, you are basically limiting the power of a console whose potential was unlocked.
Are you fucking retarded? I said before I have a homebrew'd 3DS the whole point is to compare the consoles how they were meant to be used no hacking.

You can play it without homebrew ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It has to be baiting at this point but enjoy the (You)s

>If they disagree they're contarians! Thye're wrong!!
Go reddit space somewhere else ps.

GBA emulation is for PSP u mongs

Last time I played gba games on a psp the was getting like 2 fps while playing mother 3, is it better now?

Pfff, sure thing sperg, keep limiting the power of your console I guess, but like I said, you are missing out.

Anyways the 3DS is THE best handheld because it is great on it's own, but is stupidly good when hacked giving you stuff not even PC can give yet.

3DS have the GBA emulation perfected, PSP is more of a coin flip.

>proves the 3ds is a better system
REEEEEEEEEE SPACEING
You newfags try your hardest to show you’re not from r*ddit, huh.

So now that it's dead what are some must play games, what about the Project X zone games?

>3ds
>dying

Attached: 3ds idea.png (499x568, 222K)

This is a hard redpill to swallow

The only bad thing about the 3ds is that it can’t run ps1 games.

>Project X Zone is a crossover tactical role-playing game for the Nintendo 3DS developed by Banpresto and Monolith Soft with assistance from Capcom and Red Entertainment and published by Namco Bandai Games. The game is a follow up to the 2005 video game Namco × Capcom and features characters from Namco Bandai, Capcom, and Sega

Attached: 1518705107277.png (1920x1080, 3.21M)

*it can’t run ps1 games, with sound.

Maybe someday some madman will fix the sound and framerate making PSX games playable, you can still go and play FF7 on it for now, no sound of course.

>Proves

DS had a better library and if the 3ds didn't have backwards compatibility it probably would've died much earlier than now, and 3D was a weak gimmick but this was mostly because almost no games took real advantage of it after it's first year or two on the market
I never liked the UI, either, and it taking so many years to add new themes and then having every single theme being behind paywall with the exception of a handful of shill advert themes that never looked good was a shitty thing to do, I probably would've gotten sick of my 3ds a lot earlier if it wasn't for animal crossing carrying me for a good 2-3 years

and im still pissed the luigi's mansion "remake" ended up feeling more like a downgrade because it was on the tiny ass 240p screen of the 3ds instead of giving it a real upgrade on the switch

Attached: 20180131173652_1.jpg (245x244, 11K)

circlepads are cancer.

How is it buggy? The 3DS natively supports DS software. I've played probably 20 or more DS games on my 3DS and have not experienced any glitches or bugs of any kind.

The app is weird and runs through a bunch a problems you won’t get from a flash card. A flash card is just a ds cart with anti piracy disabled. But loading from an sd card the game gets stuck loading at times, and the anti piracy features aren’t disabled so some games just crash randomly and you have to manually patch them.

Some games just don't play from it, others have problems like no sound or being unable to save.

3DS does not natively support DS cias. maybe dsi but not ds. The native support is for carts.

So, is Nintendo simply just going to focus only on the Switch and phone apps? No more handhelds?

Because those games were more expensive to make. It’s the same reason PS4 still only has like four good games unless you’re the most boring person on Earth.

the 3ds was the gamecube of handhelds. here's my predictions for how games will be received in 10 years because im bored, tired, and autistic
>kid icarus uprising is nintendo's next earthbound. fans will beg for sequels and more content from this game, and the game will have a very dedicated fanbase despite little love from nintendo for the game for many years
>animal crossing new leaf will be the preferred choice of some fans over the future animal crossing games
>a link between worlds will gain respect over the years and receive about as much respect and praise as the oracle games
>fire emblem awakening will be the peak of the series for some, and where the series stopped being good
>tomodachi life is the "animal crossing gc" of the 3ds, will have its fans for the quirkyness and soul compared to sequels
>samus returns becomes one of the most popular 2d metroid games, and will get similar praise to zero mission
>3d remakes/remasters like star fox 64 3d, ocarina of time 3d, bowsers inside story, etc. people will grow to appreciate the new directions more over time
>ghost recon shadow wars, ever oasis, stella glow, rhythm thief, and pushmo will get the respect they never got during the console's lifespan
>warioware gold will be praised as the best warioware game

>3d gimmick was pointless
I disagree, I loved the 3D gimmick and kept it on for every game (unless it was shit like Pokemon where it tanked the framerate and barely supported it).
It adds the most vital element that has been missing from games for years: depth.
For the first time you could see exactly where you were going to land in a platformer, exactly where you were going to attack, and it did wonders for immersion. I was sold on it the moment I popped in OoT3D and Navi did her flythrough.

Some games had shitty 3D or implementations of it, like Pokemon as mentioned above, and they didn't fix losing the sweet spot until the N3DS, but that's no reason to discount it entirely.

This is important.

The only problem with the 3D after they fixed it was that Nintendo abandoned the feature altogether like retards.

Attached: image.jpg (1088x1080, 514K)

Is a new 2ds xl worth it? It seems pretty good for the price.

Yeah, I don't get it. Thousands of dollars into R&D for glasses-less 3D, and then thousands more into a revision with face tracking, and now all you can buy in stores is the 2DS and 2DS XL.

What pisses me off the most is that the latest first party games haven't even supported 3D visuals if you do have the system, they're 2D only.

Attached: image.jpg (1280x720, 428K)

>and im still pissed the luigi's mansion "remake" ended up feeling more like a downgrade because it was on the tiny ass 240p screen of the 3ds instead of giving it a real upgrade on the switch
The original game was supposed to feature a stereoscopic 3D mode, and it was fully functional but it got scrapped because 3D TVs weren't widely adopted yet. So you could see the remake being on 3DS as being a realization of that lost dream. Also because Dark Moon was on there too so it shares a playerbase.

My favorite console ever if only for it being the apex of hacked consoles.

It's over. Everyone's moved to Switch.
Only games left are late localizations (Yo-kai Watch 3, Etrian Odyssey Nexus, Persona Q2) and a random port (Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn). Since the latest Direct ignored the 3DS, it's safe to say it's over.

That makes me mad too but at least they're mostly shitty ports and remakes so it's easier to forget about it.
At least the Luigi's Mansion remake has 3D.

when are they going to drop to 100 dollars so I can buy one for cheap?

I got it to replace my broken 3DS XL. It's good.

They had the black and white N3DS's on sale on black friday for $100 in 2016. That's the only reason I upgraded from my old one.

comfy handheld, let down immensely by the 3D gimmick and the software running it
it honestly should have just been "insert game, run" without fancy menus because all the "smart" features barely function and are outclassed in every way due to literally everyone over the age of 7 having a phone
library was great, though not quite as great as the DS

yep. playing racing games and platformers with 3d on was really enjoyable

Only Persona Q2 left, guess we can have a proper funeral then.
