He wasnt very relevant as opposed to the other villains, who actually were trying to rule/destory the worlds/unlimited power. He was just there with his hate boner while the villains were just like "uh ok, you do that, we'll be getting shit done here".

I finished Vesperia for the first time somewhat recently and I was fairly disappointed. Story was decent enough at first but seemed to drag on in pointless directions for plot twists. Are other Tales of games of similar writing quality? I had always heard that Vesperia is one of the best in the series but playing it absolutely killed any intention of playing another.

Tales of games basically all have a last third that feels like its completely unrelated to everything else you've done in the game. I don't think the stories have ever been their strong suits, its the characters.
