Blue Rose can be upgraded after the first playthrough, it makes everything easy. Most stuff dies in less than a minute with it.

It does do damage, you charge Blue Rose to level 3 and it can do 25% on mode greater demons. Did you buy the charged shot with the Devil Bringer? Using that while having Max-Act makes the game super easy.

Seeing the way the player above deals with the first floor of Bloody Palace is already much more inspiring than seeing someone do a 1 million hit combo on a training mode enemy. I'm not shitting on Donguri and people like him, they're obviously 1 million times more skilled than I am, but I just don't find that stuff very interesting.

You need to play damn near perfect to get it, I'm not sure why. If you think that's bad, mission 12 is the same but it's longer AND you have to beat Urizen to finish the mission each time you try again. It's ridiculous. I got S rank on mission 10 yesterday and can't tell you how, other than "don't get hit".

The trick is to drag out the fights for as long as you can at high rank. Leave one enemy alive per encounter and farm royal guards off of them for a few minutes.

Does Rebellion actually do less damage than Sparda and Dante?

Personally, I enjoy Stylish "live Play" the most. Just acting and reacting to shit that crops up in levels, while mixing in advanced techniques and getting your show-off on. Void/"last enemy in a BP floor, with an anti-trainer on it"isn't that interesting, and even 4 BP I find a little too dull, at least on early floors, cause it's too easy to have a "script". At higher levels though, it can be great, cause there's just no way for them to control every factor, and they have to act and react.

It makes things feel so much more natural, and free-flowing, and stuff like "Dodging an incoming enemy attack, then finding a way to resume the combo on the first enemy" to be so fucking great to see.

This is why it's a mistake to remove time requirements in the ranking system for DMC5.

You couldn't do that kind of shit in most levels in DMC3 or DMC1 because of very strict time requirements. In fact, in DMC1, the time requirement for the first Phantom mission was so fucking strict for an S-rank that most players typically only have 2-3 seconds left at the end of the mission.

There are two fights you can miss if you're not looking for them. They give you some easy baddies to abuse the style meter for it. If you run past the both of them, then your score will usually be shit. I was stuck on that mission all day Tuesday until I realized there is a room with Empusa's and a queen where a blue orb fragment sits.

After that I just did that part with a smoking sexy style and finished the stage with that same gauge. Gave me a little over five thousand six hundred points, which was enough.

Pretty sure the basic hits are all equal. You can get in a lot more damage with DSD by combining basic attacks with Swordmaster's summoned swords though.

Most stylists, Donguri since you've brought him up, have more than a few full playthroughs through every bloody palace and the same through the entire game in every boss with every mod under the sun. But a normal mobbing run can only be so interesting since the amount of tricks for efficient "crowd control" on the ground is more limited in scope than the options of comboing an individual.

I feel like even though DMC5 itself is much harder than DMC4 (bosses in particular are less predictable and harder to manipulate), its ranking system is much easier and way less complex than DMC4. I wish the ranking system was more complex. I don't know why the game gives you such a gigantic 2X modifier for not taking damage and another 0.2X for not using continues (isn't that redundant?). There should be a "collect minimum amount of red orbs" requirement as well as a time requirement. The no damage requirement should still be there, but make it only 0.2X.

I can't exactly get a grip on V. Shadow is weird: it can teleport, but if you do a stinger, it attacks with a stinger without teleporting. How do I make Shadow get closer to the enemy before attacking?

It's the same as DMC4. You get a penalty for using a super character, penalty for continuing, and a penalty for using items. Bonuses include: no damage, high score, and perfect orb count.

The only major difference in the calculation for DMCV is the fact that mission time is now different.

Don't attack for like half a second and he'll outright teleport to the enemy.

Also your summons have an effective range sans nightmare. So if you're not actively targeting something in your range, they will teleport back to you.

Is it the same? I guess I forgot, because it's been years since I touched DMC4. I must have been thinking about DMC3's ranking system with the time limits and the no damage limits. You definitely need to finish mission on time and get no damage on DMD to get S ranks in that game so that you can get SS rank as your end ranking instead of just an S rank.

In any case, I wish DMC5's ranking worked more like DMC3's.

It's like my one biggest complaint about the game. I don't care that much about story, since it only affects my first playthrough, but the ranking system is something that I care deeply about.

Getting an SS-rank in DMC3 (or even just a plain S-rank) used to be such an accomplishment. Now, it's possible to get S-ranks even while playing only above average in combo quality, because as long as you don't die, you get 20% more score at the end of your mission. Beating missions fast? Unnecessary. Beating missions without taking damage? Unnecessary. Beating missions while collecting a set minimum of red orbs? Unnecessary. Remember how strict the time limit was on beating the first Phantom mission in DMD on DMC1? No matter how good you played you would typically only have 2-3 seconds left before running out of time for the S-rank.

Something I've noticed a lot over the past week since the game's release is a lot of people here on Yea Forums and elsewhere being surprised that they got S-ranks in DMC5 even though they though they only did okay.

It's the only thing preventing DMC5 from being a true 10/10 for me. It's still a 9/10, but a robust ranking system would have boosted it to a 10/10. Don't get me wrong, I still think it's better than DMC4 though. I was bored to shit of that game's bosses and enemies.

It doesn't hurt the game for me, but I've definitely noticed it being much easier to get high ranks in this game. I haven't played since 4's release and basically had to relearn everything and I was still nailing SSS just about every fight it was possible in except on some bosses.

They should also make the detailed score breakdown sheet the default screen you see when you finish a mission. Getting an S-rank tells me nothing in this game. It's entirely possible to get all As or a combination of As and Bs in each individual scenario and still get an S-rank.

So if I got an ABA ora BBA or SAA, those are the giant letters that should first show in the results menu. That I think would be much better incentive for people to actually get SSS for all the scenarios of a mission. I've noticed a lot of people on YouTube don't even show the detailed score breakdown.

Nero should have something like that as one of his taunts. Not because unga or whatever shit, but because he is a hothead.

The normal buster arm grab does more damage and the charged grab does a ton more damage and gives invincibility.

Pro tip:
Normal / DT Buster damage is calculated not on hit, but on buster activation. Activating DT after your started booster will just waste DT. On the other hand, you can deactivate DT the instant the buster animation begins to save it, as the damage already been decided.

I still don’t get the breakdown. I got two B grades for V’s first mission according to the breakdown but still got an S for the total. An S was what I was aiming for, and I did well in the mission, (even ending Nidhogg’s fight with a SSS,) but I’m still not sure how to calculate or tally my score or what number that 1.2x multiplier is applying towards.

I know about that. It's called "Speed Clear A". You get around +500 orbs, right? And you get +100 orbs for "Speed Clear B". It's not the same thing though. I want there to be an actual penalty for taking too long to beat the mission like in DMC3. Besides, getting +500 red orbs is nothing in this game.

The problem with the current rank system is that it only ends in S-rank on the main screen and that the individual scenario breakdowns are on a second score menu. Hell, even in the "Total Results" menu from the main menu, you only go as high as S.

The ABB you see in pic related should be your ranking for the mission instead of the A you get in the main score screen.

Because Tomboy description specifically says that it enhances Red Queen and Blue Rose to exceed/charge level 4 basically, so even Nero isn't able to control it.
It would be actually nice if activating tomboy while DTd woul instead still give you normal moveset, but instead expand your exceed slots and giving your faster/more color up instead of unga bunga.

The new ranking system is far better, it just needs tweaks and an additional SS rank like you said earlier. Time and orbs being gone is a good thing, orbs especially were bullshit; in DMC3 you have to go out of your way to grind them in some missions, and DMC4's just involved additional routing in the level that had nothing to do with why you're playing the game. That might not sound that bad on paper, but having to do it EVERY time you restarted the mission because you took damage or went too slow was tedious.

Okay, I concede that the orb collecting requirements in previous games was somewhat bullshit, especially on repeat runs, but I still think that time requirements should still be a part of the S-rank requirements. Maybe not have it as ridiculously strict as that broken NA version of DMC1 (which I didn't know was broken), but still have some kind of ranking incentive to prevent players from playing lame/defensive and taking way too much time to beat missions.

As it is right now, it's just way too easy for an above average player to get an S-rank. If Itsuno won't put a time limit requirement, then at least remove the 0.2X bonus for not continuing. You shouldn't be rewarded for this very bare minimum of being good. Not dying isn't special. Also, reduce the no damage bonus modifier of 2.0X to become something more reasonable like 1.0X or 0.5X.

Discounting Gilgamesh I ironically had the easiest time with Artemis, who was a right cunt on my first two playthroughs

It's getting to the bosses that bores the shit out of me since blendering riot/angelo/behemoth hp gets so clinical and sterile it's like I'm in a hospital lobby waiting for an appointment, covered in gore with a robot arm/bird on my shoulder

Have you tried S ranking through SOS and DMD??

Some missions judges you pretty harshly. Mission 10, 11 and 18 to name the few. Getting S rank there is a struggle, if you get hit once or twice say goodbye to your S rank and you'll be given 3900-4200 points. With Nero is not that hard since you can unga bunga on autopilot, but with Dante everything has to be deliberate and planned out

That's because end of mission rank you see is pretty much just the boss score. How the rank stuff seems to work, is that you'll get a starting bonus for how well you do before going into the boss. Say that B gives 500, A gives 1000 and S gives 1500 starting point. That mean if you have three As, you'll be going into the boss with 3000 style points as a base line. Double S in this game will pretty much be getting an S rank in every section as well as the boss. Course, if you can manage S rank sections, it should almost guarantee you the boss S

The final ranking is the Boss ranking. As long as you perform well at the boss, then you can almost always get an S, as long as your section ranks weren't Cs. All the section ranks do is provide a bonus for going into the boss.

I fucking loved M14, it was so easy and the bosses give so much style points for kill that you barely have to get up to A to make requirements on DH.

Best order is Artemis (Grifon), Cavaliere (Shadow), Goliath (Nightmare)

Yes, Snatch and Wire Snatch have no range differences. The only difference is that Snatch can hold and in DT, double hold. Buster arm deals more damage then Bringer buster, 9k damage on the Break age, which is insane. You can kill a Fury with it, even on DMD.

It's just practice, mate. One thing that might help you is jump guarding, though. That way, if you're a little late, the i-frames will protect you. Doesn't work for chains, though, obviously.

Are you getting SSS at the end of your fights, or are you maintaining it? Style is a combination of hitting enemies and killing them in this game and how much style you get is based on the enemy. So things like Empusa Queen, Proto Angelo, Fury give WAY more style points then Scudo Angelo, Chaos or Hell bats. You can cheese the mission by using Royal Guard, getting up to SSS and then using DT plus cavaliere with it's massive AoE to hit and kill enemies stupid easy. Mass kills at high ranks, you'll get 7k style points.

It's up to you. If there are attacks you're particularly good at timing, you might want to royal release on them. I like maxing it out and saving it to get a huge chunk of damage in later when the fight gets harder, but that's just me. Might be bad advice since I'm not very good at it.

I can't use Cav for shit, but KC is all about parries. Revolver and Ice Age counter everything, and while you're doing them, you can charge up one of the lightning combos, which can be canceled at any time. It's my favorite Dante weapon.

The progression of the fights are more natural. There are phases in some respects, like in Vergil 2 where Vergil starts using Yamato again, but in general the game does a better job of having Vergil feel like a real enemy. Vergil in 5 just feels like a computer cycling through very specific attacks, and the phases are hard cuts to completely different fights. Vergil CAN'T devil trigger at all until phase 1 is over, and then you can't knock him out of it until he does his flying attack, where he always comes out of it. Then the fight stays the same again until phase 3. It just feels rote from beginning to end.

I think I get it even if I do have to disagree. I've never felt that Vergil properly had tools to get you off of him even with his RG and moments of fuckoff. 5s Vergil is indeed a situation where once you learn the fight you'll have always learned it and is one of the less alright fights in that game but he didn't feel bad for an encounter to me and neither than Vergil 1-3 despite their inability to get you off of them.

On the topic of easy and fun, I still had more enjoyment out of Credo than I did for any of the de facto "rival" fights across all difficulties. Different strokes I guess.

I really enjoy playing V and i like DMC5. I was just saying too much fanservice. Dante/Vergil's relationship is also by Itsuno and that was awesome yet in this new game there is too much wasted time, characters talk without saying anything. V is actually my favorite character and he's the only one of the three who reminded me of the action flick nature of old DMC with his demeanor. But he plays differently and therefore they played it safe and kind of pre-emptively killed him off in case the fans didn't like him. Too safe, too fanservice that being said right now it's the best DMC game we have.
We must be able to pick the game's flaws without falling into retard territory and we must not praise it like a holy grail while it is not.
The cutscenes are usually people just talking to each other and explaining things and that's my grip with it.

I still feel like there was experimentation there, puppet character in an action game, but then the problem is that he doesn't get much in terms of extra skills despite potential. Like how nero got breakers and some new snatch mechanics alongside his old kit returning, or dante in general benefitting since he's defined by the devil arms he gets + styles.
They should take the time in a future DMC game or other action project to further expand V's style of gameplay.

Every fight doesn't get its own style points, the first one determines your base style point score and fights after that get averaged in to determine if the score goes up or down. The amount is determined by how long you maintain a style rank, so if you maintain an A rank it'll give you points around 4000 or so. S is 5000, so on and so forth. If you don't stay in any particular style rank, it'll be pretty low. Also, all fights you engage in will affect your score, so killing lesser enemies that aren't required fights is usually a bad idea because they're going to die really quickly and there won't be enough of them to get a high style rank and maintain it, so it's better to just skip them and move on to the next mandatory/bigger fight.
