I feel like the gameplay is so perfect it just NEEDS more content with a few extra levels and bosses for each character
on the first playthrough you barely get to play as V, you don't even get to scratch the surface with Dante and Nero reaches his potential at the very end of the game

hopefully bloody palace will be more fleshed out, and I hope there will be some good DLC as well, obviously a Vergil campaign being the priority

In the novel, he was the 1st to eat the fruit to become the king of hell. Currently right now he’s in Hell gathering power and an army. He also created Gilver as a clone to fuck with Dante and test him out.

Vergil is coming too. Hackers found that not only is he playable, but he is actually going to be developed more. They even cobbled together his code and enabled what seems to be a super early development version of him.

When I realized that every flaw it has is so minor that it doesn't matter to me.
Meanwhile 3 has a number of weird issues that detract from the overall experience, like the puzzle stuff, lots of downtime, inability to switch styles, Doppelganger and Quicksilver sucking hardcore, and so on. 3 Is still like nigh-perfect, though, it's just that 5 edges out by being overall better, even though it doesn't quite reach 3's sky-high-highs consecutively.

Canonically Dante is on Human, Nero is on SoS, and V is on DMD.

Boss Battles really show the limitations of V in my opinion and I can't fucking believe they make you fight you a dude on a fucking horse.

Indeed, and it stops the rolling guys from rolling. But it has a few other moves, the 360 hat throw feels pretty buggy to me since it doesn't always set a hat on things.

So after beating Geryon on DMD I'm starting to understand why people might hate fighting them. Being able to one-shot Griffon with just one lightning orb is kinda horseshit. That said he's still easy as hell due to how safe V is, how quickly you build meter just by shadow dodging the sword swings, and being able to i-frame through a time bubble just by calling the big boy.

I played DMC3 and 5 for the first time pretty much back to back.
The combat or atleast the controls of the characters in DMC5 are way better than the ones in DMC3.
None of the enemies have given me an ulcer like some of the shitty DMC3 mobs do(enigmas, bloodgoyles, fallen angels, spiders, those chess pieces in mission 18 and whatever those shitty gas monster motherfuckers that succ your DT can go succ my dick.), but I do think that DMC5 never quite reached the peaks of DMC3 namely the story/rivalry between abd Vergil.
As much as I like boomer Dante vs weaboomer Vergil I do think the build up and the pay off to Dante and Vergils rivalry that culminated to Vergil 3 was better.
Although none of DMC5's bosses are as shitty as the centipede or leviathan's heart(not even gilgamesh that a lot of anons seem to hate).
While I do think the DMC5 tracks are better as a whole, I don't like any of them as much as I like the cerberus' theme and all the variations of devil never cry and Vergil's theme.
Tl;dr
I think DMC3 had higher highs, but DMC5 is the better game overall.
But this is just the uninformed opinion of some dude who started marathoning the franchise the weekend before 5 came out and barely finished 4 on 5's release date.

Let me show you what I mean when I say you're literally supporting a statement with absolutely nothing:
I like devil may cry 3's story more than 5 because of the emotional impact. We get to see Dante's character growth as a person due to Lady and her father and Vergil and their father. We see Dante's motivation change from retaliation to duty and see the weight of their father and his actions increase in insignificance. At the start of the game Dante states "I don't have a father". At the end of the game, Dante talks about inheriting his soul.

In Devil May Cry 5, the unconventional storytelling as well as the lack of any real character growth (mostly due to their story arcs being complete) lead to less of an emotionally grounded experience. While V is a fantastic new edition he deals with his regret almost the moment of his inception and side characters like Lady, Trish, and even Nico are far less explored in the story in comparison to Lady and Trish in 1 and 3. This combined with the newly resurrected Vergil's seeming lack of regret for his actions as Urizen are details that are missed. Nero's decision isn't shaped by any of the present cast and is instead influenced by Kyrie arguably weakening Nicos reason for existing, as she's not exactly helpful when Nero decides to leave the vehicle in the last act.

And wallah.
But I don't consider the story of 5 to be shit. I fucking hate seeing "it gets worse in the second half" because out of the few dozen times I've seen in the game's story is just consistent but not as good and "second half" is a meaningless descriptor.

Mission 15 and 16 are a lot of fun in 5. I absolutely adore mission 15 because it's a big sprawling maze with a lot of areas that encourage certain breakers, like with the Scudo blocking hallways for Helter Skelter, the pits for Gerbera, the spikes for Ragtime, etc. Mission 15 feels like the ultimate Nero showcase.
16 was also good, with a great boss to cap it off.

Honestly, I think it go wrong when Itsuno and Matt werent sure about reception of true DMC sequel after 10 years and reboot happening (i remember Matt said something like that in interwiew) so they mixed DMC5 with some of DmC aesthetics, and choose to make game as bland and "safe" as possible with a lot of fanserive and "funny" moments. Also i recall Itsuno saying that he was inspired by Avengers while making DMC5, after playing the game i see what he meant

As I was playing it I was happy to learn that it has the the most consistent quality of enemies and bosses in the series. While some enemies are definitely better than others nothing stands out as especially terrible.

Nah, but as much as i enjoy playing the game, there are many things that are polarizing about it. Makes me laugh how Mission 2 is the only part of the game that has inspired level design. Everything else is just dark tunnels covered in vines and exploring Satan's butthole... that's covered in vines. I do wish this game had actual puzzles though because finding a bug to destroy an obstacle, isn't a puzzle.

I don't think the character arcs are incomplete. A lot of the issues people see in 5 are because the game isn't so up front with it's story, people need to read between the lines.

Take Dante for example. For most of the game he pushes everyone away, especially Nero. While it's never stated directly, this is obviously because he doesn't want anybody to be hurt by Vergil, who he thinks only he can beat. With Nero in particular, he doesn't want Nero to be forced to fight or even kill his own father, which he believes Nero will try to do. But when it turns out Nero actually wants peace with Vergil, Dante lays back and allows him to do as he pleases, assured that Nero has the right intentions and can actually settle things properly.

As for the side characters, that's what they are. 1 had two or three main characters, 3 had four, 5 has nine in the primary cast, obviously most will simply be supplementary compared to prior games.

To be fair, Vergil seemed to be in pretty good condition going into that fight, while Dante was not only out for a month but fought his way up the tree and faced off against Urizen twice. He was properly exhausted at that point, plus Nero's surprise bitch slap seemed to really knock the wind out of him.

True. I also REALLY liked V as a character, both in narrative and gameplay. He's basically what Vergil would've been if he'd listened to his humanity more than his lust for power (and very close to the original concept for the character). Also, the subplot with his minions as manifestations of his trauma was conducted beautifully. The plot isn't original, for sure, but it's carried out so earnestly it doesn't matter.

I think I still prefer 3 more, because I have a massive boner for rivalries and DMC3 was peak rivalry kino.
From the rival having similiar yet opposite skillset to teaming up to fight the final boss only to fight eachother right after to settel their score.
It pretty much checked boxed all the the tropes I love in vidya and anime, combine that with the fact that I absolutely fell in love devil never cry's leitmotif which is the main theme of their rivalry there is no way my chuuni little heart could be objective.
Hell the only reason why I am trying to get DMD in DMC3 so I can fight the Vergil fights at their peak.

Once V reunites with Urizen (the name is a clever plot point in itself) and becomes whole again, they willingly commit suicide because they want Vergil to be completely free of them.
