Probably the Hori RAP4 since Hayabusa parts are better than Qanba parts. Although I'd rather save another $50 and buy an Obsidian or Fighting Edge.

What makes the fighting edge and obsidian $50 better?
I'm not hardcore into fightan, but I enjoy playing on a stick and might use it for shmups and other arcade games too. I just don't like my Hori mini because it's small and the parts feel cheap.

the only difference between rap4 and rapN is build quality, qanba sticks have different parts. rap4 is not a bad option at all. i have one and the hayabusa lever is way better than a jlf lever imo.

Obsidian has better parts and better design/base. Fighting Edge has better build quality and when the cable door breaks it doesn't make the stick look like it has a tumor.

I own a Qanba Drone. Replaced all the parts.

I just use the controller that comes with the system. (That includes using a trackpad/trackpoint on a laptop) Deal with it.

Source: I owned a Panthera. Too heavy, cable has a different pinout than MadCatz even though the connector is the same making it difficult to replace, requires a DRIVER for XInput on PC.

The EVO only works on PS4, removed PS3 and the plexi is blackened so it messes up the art. Get a HORI or Qanba.

The problem with sticks that cheap is that they come with a crappy generic stick part and buttons. If it's your first stick you probably won't know the difference but assuming you do end up swapping out the components somewhere down the line you'd probably come close to making up the difference between say, the Drone and a Hori RAP4 Kai if you catch it on a sale.

That said as a first fight stick the Drone isn't a bad choice. Let's you dip your toes into the water before deciding if you want to dive deeper. The small size makes it nice to travel with too if that's your thing

How much do brand name parts matter, what's the difference? And what's a good sale price on a rap 4?
I see them for $140 on amazon which is a little cheaper than the $150 I usually see them for.

I like to think that all walks of life have great people and shitty people.

The difference is all in the construction. The standard stick part people will recommend is the Sanwa JLF because it is incredibly sturdy, reliable, and just feels nice to operate due to it being not too firm and not too loose feeling when you move it. On the flip side the Qanba generic stick you get with the Drone just feels cheap coming off of any name brand stick part, whether it be Sanwa, Hori's Hayabusa, or even Seimitsu. The same goes for the buttons simply put they just feel cheap, because well they are cheap. It's the tradeoff for buying a sub $100 stick.

I bought my RAP4 when Street Fighter V was coming out for $120. No idea if it's ever dipped that low since but for that price it was a pretty good deal. I even got an earlier version of it that came with Hori's first iteration of their own line of internal components, the Kuro stick and buttons. They fucking sucked. Their new Hayabusa line is much better though people will probably continue to swear by Sanwa until the end of time.

Parts do and don't matter. It's somewhat down to personal preferences but with the drone it's mostly fine stock. I would recommend replacing the stick as it feels quite loose which can be annoying.
It's not hard to mod the drone if you follow some fairly simple guides.

The parts? Easy as hell. Just know there's a hidden screw under a warranty sticker and you'll be inside in no time.
The art can be a pain. You've got to use a blow dryer or heat gun to melt the glue holding the original vinyl art from the top. Once that mess is cleaned up just slap some anime titty art on there with some plexi and you're good to go

That's the thing there is no glass on the stick the top panel is covered by a heavy duty vinyl sticker. When I did mine I cracked the stick open, removed the buttons and and stick from it, then blasted one of the corners of the top panel with a hair dryer until I was able to start peeling it off, prying it up with my screwdriver as I went. There's really not much you can mess up so I wouldn't worry.
There are a couple of places you can order art from but I've always used FocusAttack. They even have templates for all major sticks to use to make sure your art will look nice and lined up before you send it off to get printed.
