New news since last thread: Chink representative responds >We only import your Steam friends with your explicit permission. The launcher makes an encrypted local copy of your localconfig.vdf Steam file. However information from this file is only sent to Epic if you choose to import your Steam friends, and then only hashed ids of your friends are sent and no other information from the file. reddit.com/r/PhoenixPoint/comments/b0rxdq/epic_game_store_spyware_tracking_and_you/eijlbge/
>>We only import your Steam friends with your explicit permission. The launcher makes an encrypted local copy of your localconfig.vdf Steam file. However information from this file is only sent to Epic if you choose to import your Steam friends, and then only hashed ids of your friends are sent and no other information from the file.
Reminder that they're outright admitting to scrapping your data (and not just friend list data that they claim to be needing it for) without your permission and you're just supposed to trust that they don't access it without you giving the okay.
Yes, Valve does indeed have access to your Steam Friends and Steam config files. But it's probably because they own all the Steam infrastructurecture though. Dumb chink.
Jason Brooks
>Some shitty forum and reddit is evidence Where are some actually trusted sources gaming news site with journalists who can actually verify info like this instead of jumping the gun like braindead idiots?
Jordan Wilson
Post >yfw you didn't download this malware bitcoin miner
Everything they do points to them doing something with the entire file since they make regular backups of it even when you never used the friends import, all we have going is Epic's fingers crossed promise that they are only downloading part of the file.
Why do they even have to do this when Steam has an API for this kind of stuff? GOG uses the API for giving out games for free if you already have on Steam, why isn't Epic using this API for the friends import?
Ayden Parker
>Where are some actually trusted sources gaming news site with journalists who can actually verify info like this Is this some meta irony
Doesn't Valve have a API that allows exactly that? the Epic one seems to brute force and poke his chink nose into more thn this "localconfig.vdf" file.
Jonathan Thomas
All the gaming sites are too busy cashing the checks from Epic. Have you not noticed them shilling for them the last week or so and attacking Steam over that rape game?
Because they're lying about using it only for friend list.
Ian Taylor
pcgamer.com/epic-steam-data-reddit/ >Similar, somewhat easier to follow results were posted today on Resetera, and our own hardware master Jarred Walton confirmed that the launcher had poked around in his Steam files.
Caleb Reyes
"trusted" gaming news sites aren't going to report on this because they get money from Epic games to shill their platform
Nolan Cook
>its ok bro, the information we stole from you is there on your PC but we need your permision to actually get it, we...we swear that's actually how it works !
I'm just here for the continuation of that user sperging out for hours
Evan Gonzalez
>Doesn't Valve have a API that allows exactly that?
They do. GOG uses it and GMG uses it for linking accounts. The fact that Epic doesn't do this and instead secretly scrapes your info is shady as all hell.
Brody Thomas
Reminder Valve drones are smart enough to solve a captcha but too dumb to respond to this image
The only people who hate Epic games are valve NPCs who would make up fake news like this just to damage it when they're threatened by competition.
Owen Garcia
Yes, the Steam API provides all of this information. However, the 3rd party looking to obtain the information needs authorization from the Steam account to do so. That's why GOG / other platforms request that you log into your Steam account before they can receive that information. EGS just scrapes the info from the Steam directory without the user's consent.
Adrian Baker
Valve has an API that allows anyone to do this along with respecting their privacy. Now why would they not use this in order to take the info from you?
Jason Reyes
Threadly reminder that Epic knows how many Fortnite PC players have steam, and how often they use it. No matter the damage control, they've known these things for months. It's not just in case you try to find your friends.
Aiden Long

rutracker is the reason why I keep on living, thank you russian hackers
They absolutely were paid off recently. They've been doing nothing but shilling for Epic and posting hit pieces on Steam for weeks now. Totally corrupt.

if it was only that, why would they save game playtime as well in their .bak files?
Chase Cox
>Dragon Age 2 - 94/100 was there ever any doubt?

Which proprietary software doesn't have spyware today, really? This is not to defend the Chinks or anyone else who spies, but Valve and others probably do as much.
Joseph Garcia
They save more than your Steam friends list in that file
Robert Martinez
this is hilarious. epic spyware, spying on steam spyware. fuck it all, just give me the bitcoin miner from a pirate copy.
>Only make copy of one file >literally scanned every folders in steam dir >copy one data Bull fucking shit, they data mined your games file data. They do it this way because SteamAPI can't do it for third party.
>b-b-but we only do it if you give us permission (vague, meaningless) valve has an API that gives all this info, the fact that epic needs to go behind this and get this info shadily means theyre doing much worse and no one has found out yet
Nathaniel Hughes
spoopy
Austin Morris
yeah they are intentionally bypassing the steam api to get your game data and info on your friends with private profiles, cause their motto is "fuck privacy we're china".
Mason Lewis
i'm so fucking sick of it. really man. i got a meme razer mouse for MMO play. THAT mother fucker needs a driver >plz install out bitcoin miner it's to the fucking point where i'm just about done with it all. not to mention nvidia wanting me to let it collect telemetry cuckshit.
Listen here you little shit. Every single electronical device ever concieved from a certain point in the mid 2000s to today has a function to spy on you. Even if you go innawoods you will get spied on by satellites, there is literally no escape. Everything you say, on the internet or irl, is recorded and used to push ads on you. The deal here is choosing the "convenient" evil, so I ask you: would you rather get spied on by an american private company as usual or get spied on by literal bugmen on the other side of the world? You know more about valve than chinks. Your choice.
You can get most steam data as a third party, but you would first have to ask for the user's permission. Epic just uses the old chinese tradition of stealing instead
James Gonzalez
That means we should expect Metro Exodus sales figures any day now, right? :^)
Jackson Hill
>epic doesn't even have an active player count lol why would i EVER buy a multiplayer came on the epic store if there's no forum, reviews or player count to let me know how active the playerbase is
Already scrapped my VM... Can you block that scan using NTFS file permissions or chink launcher is running in elevated regardless?
Isaac Brown
I'm not Chinese so why the fuck would I worry what they do with the data? (Winnie the Pooh, 1989 Tiananmen Square protests)
Jordan Diaz
That number is 0 on Epic and 2.25 million on console. Probably less than 100K max on Steam before it was removed. It flopped, which is sad because it was good.
> It's preferable to find an alternative way to confirm this. no no no, you said it's "obviously preferable" to verify this on your own. then it became retarded. now it's apparently not preferable anymore. >I didn't claim it should be ignored. you LITERALLY posted that it shouldn't have been posted here at all >"Might as well not link anything at all" >I called you retarded for arguing when we agree with each other about how it needs to be verified no, again i already wrote this, you called me retarded for wanting to verify it on my own, as you did to others. >Confirming it's true before believing it is the right thing to do yes but according to you it's retarded to verify it on your own.
Ryan Thomas
I welcome our new Chinese overlords just out of spite for you. At least they didn't invent lies about my people
>I welcome our new Chinese overlords because I fucking love eating shit haha having a fat laugh over here. That's all I'm reading user I worry because the bugmen are shadier than the others so I avoid their services whenever I can
Steam shows 200..500k owners. Epic store has at least 100k for sure.
Xavier Price
You could probably create another Windows user, change file permissions so that he doesn't have access to steam data and then run epic launcher as that user.
Juan Parker
The Phoenix Point guys straigh up said if everybody got a refund they would still have money. Then again they later said "please stay, we are offering you free DLC, please!"
Owen Diaz
you can hide playtime with steam privacy settings.
That's what I was thinking in theory. But Windows(especially 10) permissions are literal garbage, sometimes working and most of the time just being useless. Wonder if chink launcher would throw an exception tho.
AHAHAHAHAHAHA The bugmen actually took my shitpost seriously.

Just common sense. The game is a flop, and possibly hasn't even made back its budget. 4A might well be shut down before the year is up.
Nathan Johnson

Robert Price
People are mad Epic importing your Steam friends before you tell it to, but still use credit cards, chat on Facebook, search with Google, post on Reddit, buy shoes made by literal child slaves, etc.
You guys are just as bad as people bitching about how there aren't enough one-eyed black transgender protagonists.
Jason Brooks
sorry i'm a smooth brain. are you saying you made the trello or they added shit from your shitpost to the trello?
>>No reviews >No community forums >No discovery queue >No one-click online streaming >No family sharing user, these are the reasons why devs are putting their games on Epic (besides cash). Steam is criminally pro-consumer to the point that consumers have all the means of making a wise purchase.
Aaron Barnes
Wrong, it collects all your steam data even if you never bother with the import stuff.
Dominic James
Oh no, Epic knows how long I played Dota 2 for. What a fucking travesty.
Carson Ortiz

Brody Johnson
that first one is the most important to me. Allow those user reviews and I will cease caring about the evil chinese and use the platform. Why? because I want to see how much hate a game is getting before I buy it, I like sorting through the outrage culture, and I like deciding myself if a review bombing is justfied or not. if the chink bugmen want my money they can totally have, this shit is not that complicated. It's like they want everyone aside from jews to hate them
Jack Morales
well then why claim the numbers have been released. >Just common sense. The game is a flop, and possibly hasn't even made back its budget. how can you say that when you don't know sales? and it was a decent seller on physical media which is released. i think you put too much importance in "epic = bad", i don't think that normies that buy fps games care so much.
Daniel Powell
I've just about had it up to here with these motherfucking slant eye chinks taking our goddamn jobs, breathing all our air and shitting on the white man and everything he cherishes. Elijah Nelson
>user, these are the reasons why devs are putting their games on Epic (besides cash). No it isn't since no one put their game on Epic yet without the exclusivity deal, cash is the only reason.
Dominic Cox
Why did they bypass the steam api if they're not doing anything shady?
Noah Cooper
Can confirm I logged into the Epic Store launcher to test it a few hours ago and now I can't access my Steam account and when I check my profile it's set to private and a name in chinkrunes??
EGS isn't feature lacking, its just lightweight I swear.
John Morris
This unironically.
Jacob Perez
Wrong. I know exactly how many sales it has made on console. Only 2.25 million. That is a flop. It hasn't sold fuck all on Epic to turn that number into a success. Checkmate.
i love epic and i love unreal engine and all the things epic has done prior to metro exodus, but tim is making it really fucking hard to see the company that way anymore. I doubt anyone buys the idea that Epic Games Launcher is collecting literally every bit of steam user data off your computer just so it can use it to import friends should you decide to give them permission. if we had the know how, decrypting the network traffic that Epic sends from your computer probably contains all of that data.
Also not validating emails was a really fucking stupid idea. some dude in Thailand with a list of emails he got from somewhere registered all of them with Epic Games already, and when the owners of those emails try to make an Epic account and are given control of the fake account, they can't buy most games due to their account technically being in Thailand.
Ian Ramirez

Everything spies on you nowadays. Or more accurately, everything has always spied on you, only nowadays we have privacy legislation so they're forced by law to tell you they're spying on you, when before they just kept it a secret.

Process Manager. its what the ledditors used to find this shit. literally all you have to do is open process manager and the open the Epic Store, and the evidence will pop up right there.
>get called out for having a storefront severely lacking in features compared to others >now have to push out a roadmap detailing things to come when you stated it was already complete as is
thats not how i want them to be. that was the original vision, and it probably says somewhere on reddit that thats what they are for. People are simple minded sheep though and can't resist pressing up on things they like and down on things they don't like
Liam Harris
Drop the exclusivity faggotry and I'll be happy and more likely to use your chinkstore, I know you are reading this Tim.

Tim has absolutely zero control over it. Tencent is the majority stake in the company. Tim is their little lapdog slave who believes he still has integrity and a say in his company. They'll oust him sooner or later too.
Thomas Rivera
ironically the amount of free marketing those people have given these games they're complaining about will result in more total sales than the people claiming they're going to refund/pirate
I didn't even know what Satisfactory or Phoenix Point were a couple weeks ago but they both look kind of cool.
Xavier Miller
Read the previous thread to have a good laugh at retarded epicdrones People are just taking the piss now since Tim didn't explain what Epic is doing collecting your steam data without your consent and the VP's explanation is full of holes.
Yeah, when they come to Steam. They'll make no sales at all on Epic, everything on there has bombed entirely.
Jaxson Powell
we've been over this many times. Tencent holds 40% stock, which means they aren't a majority shareholder. Tim Sweeny holds over 50% of the stock, making him the majority shareholder. And hes the CEO. You won't get any more replies out of me.
No he doesn't. He holds much less, and every other individual share is smaller than 40%. Tencent are the majority you fucking brainlet liar.
Hudson Green
There's a big difference between bringing attention to something and going REEEE bug-eyed chinks fuck epic fuck tim
I think we can all agree there's no reason for them to scan Steam data before you tell it to import your friends list like they claim, but it's like BLM where people took it too far and now there are people who will feel sympathy for the opposite side because of how batshit crazy everyone is being.
Hunter Cook
what valid points are you talking about chink shill
Jeremiah Thompson
Source? Proof?
Thomas Richardson
Nah people really hate apologists like you, breaching privacy deserves a good beating (plus all the other cancer Epic does)
Elijah Baker
Not really, unlike with BLM where most people are okay with a genuine criminal being killed no matter how much people shill for said criminal, most people are not okay with their data being unwillfully mined, especially when the company doing it is heavily associated with the Chinese, who are notorious for being snakes. And yes, believe it or not, it's not just Americans who hate the Chinese, there's a reason most of Asia also hates them.

even the redditor behind this is a crazed mega-autist ultra-racist who believes conspiracy theories about tencent and their partnership with Epic. I was surprised to see that hes also only marginally better than these Yea Forums valve drones in communicating ideas. His posts are long winded messes that take forever to get to the point.

Valve gets a nice chunk of that game's profits, it's made on the Source engine just like both Titanfall games were. That said, the insectoids are obviously terrified of it since it killed Fortnite.
Jaxon King
Valve drones thought Apex would be the death of Fortnite, and thus, would stop the Epic Store
the steam friends list part of the file is currently used to find your friends on the epic launcher "friends suggestion", where you can choose steam platform. the games played list could be used to recommend games on epic, but there is no such feature i think so it could also be some sort of espionage.
Justin Davis
Well, he is Russian. But he worked for Epic the whole time as an analytics engineer or some shit. inb4 the company throws him under the bus for this and he serves jail time for it.

>it's made on the Source engine sure, like many other games >Valve gets a nice chunk of that game's profits proof ? >Valve drones thought Apex would be the death of Fortnite no they didn't they don't control the game. EA does. Respawn Entertainment build the game on it since Titanfall and since it's based on Titanfall it still uses the Source Engine. Sadly you are just a stupid fucking chink shill with an IQ of actual ape.
It did though. Fortnite is completely dead. Apex Legends didn't need to live past achieving that goal to make it any less so. EA won. Valve wins no matter what, by the way. Epic was never even competition, they weren't a player on the board.

The licensing royalties in the engine contract give Valve a nice juicy cut. Same as any company leasing out development tools. Epic makes money on every game made on Unreal Engine.
Camden Long
Most larger companies pay for a separate license if they use a 3rd party engine, usually just a lump sum of money for a royalty free license
Thomas Nelson
I can tell you what's going through the heads of the Metro devs. Panic, fear, and regret. Their game, like all Epic store games, has bombed. They made some money on console though at least, but not enough to save them.
Isaac Davis
>they don't control the game who cares who controls it, that wasn't the point, only that pcbros thought apex would kill fortnite. there are dozens of threads about how apex did better numbers than fortnite for a short time, pressing F to epic. oopsie, fortnite didn't die. >stupid fucking chink shill see
Benjamin Campbell
> Panic, fear, and regret. Their game, like all Epic store games, has bombed Source?
Logan Cooper
Those "royalties" where accomplished with Titanfall but as contrarian as you are they make billions of it and considering EA has full control over it they won't give Valve a fucking cent even if necessary. kill yourself
Lincoln Butler
Okay look, I get hating on Epic but I don't get hating on Epic to the point you purposely act retarded.
Easton Wilson
see what care to provide those valid points of yours
Adrian Campbell
Part of the deal with Epic was that Epic would ensure they got some minimum amount of revenue by paying the difference if the game underperformed. The devs are fine, and the publicity it got means it sold even better on console.
Isaac Adams
>Yea Forums is so full of delusional contrarians that they'll defend literally anything Epic does There's very few shills here, just a lot of dunning-kruger poster children so desperate to prove themselves better than the "normies" that they'll cling to whatever position they deem the most unpopular in the mistaken impression it'll make them seem enlightened or intelligent.

you know, like that. rationality and logic.
Leo Davis
They have only sold 2.25 million copies on console with only an additional few hundred thousand Steam pre-orders. No sales made on Epic. The game flopped.
Sebastian Phillips
Not trying to defend EGS, but Steam actually does do the same thing and was proven to do it years ago, due to the way VAC works or something. I trust Valve more than I do chinks, but this still shouldn't be okay.
James Bailey
I actually made this post as a pretty obvious troll for (You)s, it was successful but it actually proved it somewhat as well.
Brody Ward
I don't get how you can guys can defend EA just because of Epic. Is there just some law that forbids you to hate both with all the hate you have because I've been seeing a ton of defending EA in this thread.
Parker Taylor
No. They are 100% fully owned and controlled by Tencent. Shut the fuck up already you retarded subhuman slant.
Aaron Diaz
the game was going to flop anyways you retard. theres a reason they took epics deal. their game was already likely to flop so they took epics money to guarentee that they don't completely go under when the game does flop.

looking for friends you have in steam so they can recommend friends through epic's steam friend recommendations, at least that's part of it. the rest i'm sure is an evil ancient chinese conspiracy to undermine and demoralize the american youth.
wtf there are intelligent people on this board who can do more than spout whatever memes they find on reddit?
Wyatt Kelly
>whose only evils are raping Bioware to death And Westwood. And Pandemic. And Maxis. And Visceral Games. And plenty of other smaller, notable PC devs. Including DICE. That said, modern EA provides nothing of worth so I have more hate for Epic than EA. EA hasn't been relevant for anyone other than retarded consoleniggers since 2010.
Benjamin Bennett
So it's a bug with sandboxie and not the epic launcher then?
Nicholas Turner
Nah, it would have sold great if it had stayed on Steam. It easily could have been one of the best selling games so far this year but instead it ended up being a massive flop and failure. It didn't deserve that but the publisher and devs went full retard and killed their game. The devs will be shut down in a few months for it too.
Aaron Roberts
>It's fun to watch EA destroy them Except that's not really a valid reason to stop hating them. It's better to just fucking hate them both instead of defending a company that has destroyed multiple franchises and closed multiple studios down.
Brayden Bennett
Yea user, sandboxie was the one queuing up all those requests in filepaths related to Steam account data and save data. Serious question, are you retarded?
Anthony Howard
There's a thing called road maps. Dude, go fuck yourself
Evan Bell
sure thing valve drone. you definitely know better than metros own marketing team.
if it was going to sell good they wouldn't have ditched steam. they get absolutely nothing out of Epic's deal if it does well.
Jace Reyes
>It easily could have been one of the best selling games so far this year but instead it ended up being a massive flop and failure source? why do you avoid to answer. what were the numbers.
Jaxson Bailey
I've stopped caring about EA, again, only consoleniggers consider them anything but contemptible and no one gives a fuck about retarded consolefags.
Ryan Allen
Good lord, Epic hasn't responded to my request to regain access to my account in three months. Now I don't even care anyway.
panel 2 is attacking a strawman. "spies on you" isn't the problem, "the chinese spy on you" is. valve isn't chinese so it's ok :)
Cameron Thomas
>Epic is at zero copies sold source? why, again, do you avoid this fairly important number.
Christian James
Yeah that seems like the right way to do things, search for all that info before you even want to do whatever that info is supposed to do for you. Next they will charge you for the next big AAA game they think you want to buy so when you go buy it it's already paid for

Shitting on Epic for trying to lock down PC gaming with platform exclusives not that it matters since I pirate anything that's not on GoG/Steam/DRM free physical anyways is not the same as shitting on Nintendo because your Sony masters deemed them contemptible. I don't shit on Epic to shill for Steam, GoG, Origin, or any other platform, I shit on Epic to shill for myself, because I don't want storefronts bribing devs to only put games on their store (inb4 chink shills try to imply that Valve does this with absolutely zero proof, also inb4 they try to imply that making your own games that YOU developed exclusive to your own platform is at all comparable to bribing devs to make games exclusive).
Julian Brooks
debunked. EPIC wins again
Oliver Green
this isn't accurate. 88% revenue share wasn't the main reason to go to Epic, otherwise they would have chosen Epic in the first place. They chose Epic because Epic offered them a minimum sales deal.
Luis Cooper
>inb4 common sense >inb4 chink shill
Aaron Gray
why do "Gamers" have a problem with this? Makes absolutely no sense!
Aiden Peterson
I don't have to tell you how I know that or where I get my information ;^)
But I know you know I'm telling the truth since you're in full panic mode trying to damage control anyway. So desperate and pathetic you are.
Austin Johnson

Levi Lewis
Why do epicdrones always try to go for this angle when it's Epic that has been doing cancerous anti-consumer consoleshit shit like paid exclusives?
Ryan Turner
No steam no buy hasn't failed me yet
The keks just keep coming
Kayden Sanchez
Create folders in your steam userdata folder with those names lmao
Kevin Cruz
Are they collecting any other information through? I always wonder how they automatically connected your Steam's friend list to Fortnite.
>I don't have to tell you how I know that or where I get my information ;^) but you don't know, you're grabbing numbers out of your ass. >you're in full panic mode trying to damage control anyway says the man literally making numbers up to prove a point. yet again this rings true.
Jaxson Peterson
learn to fucking read Xiao-kun, then might aswell debunk yourself
Carter Collins
This. The Epic Store will be shut down before the end of the year. This is too fucking funny. This is the real TORtanic of 2019, not Anthem or Crackdown 3 or whatever.
Ayden Martinez
Also collects games played and playtime. This contradicts the lies the epic guy said about how it's just for linking friends. They don't need your playtime hours to link a friend.
This is honestly so fucking true. Its all these threads ever are, nothing but this.

I haven't made up a single number. 2.25 million copies sold is the verifiable number for console sales for the game. About 200-300K is the verifiable number from Steam sales. Epic hasn't made any sales at all so the game has only sold around 2.3 million copies total across all platforms. Period. Those are facts. Keep panicking Chinkoid, you can't hide the truth no matter how hard you try, these numbers were easy to extrapolate. If it had sold well at all, they would not be dead silent about it, but the have. It's over for Metro and 4A, and definitely over for Epic.
Hudson Thomas
>been using the launcher regularly for years now >no issues whatsoever
>i haven't made up a single number >Epic hasn't made any sales at all based >Keep panicking Chinkoid see
Parker Reyes
That's beyond awful, I've only ever installed the Epic Launcher because of friends but looks like I'm uninstalling it tonight.
Issue comes down to is what Epic is sending back? Even if it's just Playtime and Friendlist data it's still invasion of user's privacy.
Is it just the Steam friend list and playtime? Honestly EU's GPDR is going either ban or force epic to be completely clear with how information it's collecting or sending back.
It does, nice thing about EU's GPDR law it effected people outside of EU. So you can at least complain to a company about this.
when you install this you basicly sign your soul away according to their EULA but still it's more than just gathering data, they infiltrate other sections where they don't belong at all on your pc
Lincoln Price
Literally everyone doesn't have a problem with the launcher. It's just Yea Forums being contrarian
Jaxson Gomez
include me in the screencap. Fuck Yea Forumseddit
Christopher Baker
It violates even American laws, which should tell you exactly how illegal this is.
Adrian Cooper
Bullshit I used it for that shit moba they made and chinamen have been trying to steal my info for like 2 years
big bad EPIC and muh evil chinese botnet are some good shit, real cute roleplay from Yea Forums
Oliver Mitchell
>this response
Holy shit, he was actually telling the truth, it really did flop. You wouldn't reply this if he didn't hit the nail on the head and send you into maximum damage control mode like this. Fuck, RIP Metro I guess.
Tim just wants you to find your Steam friends on Epic, and recommend games for you, yet you shriek out at him while spouting unwarranted xenophobia against the Chinese.
This is a lie and a shill. There is no contrarianism at play here except for the shills. No one likes or uses that cancerous spyware launcher. It's a literal bitcoin mining virus.
Jonathan Watson
>a literal bitcoin mining virus. proof?
Justin Evans
Steam shills seething so much that they're not making any sense
He looks like a pedophile with downs syndrome. Fuck this Chinese puppet.
Liam Perez
Why didn't he use the Steam API like GOG does then?
Matthew Wood
we don't deserve tim
Aiden Bailey
you are right we don't deserve this chinese Agent
Julian Lee
the company that blamed the poor sales of UT3 on pirates not the game being shit, ditched PC in favor of consoles then come crawling back to PC again you're right, tim doesn't deserve us
Jeremiah Gutierrez
You must ask him as I cannot interpret his work, I am but a spectator in the age of Sweeney. Why don't you want Tim to do it his own way, anyway? Tim has been incredibly successful doing things his own way so far. Open your heart for Tim.
it's called "competition" you idiots. epic games giving you way less features for the same price while stealing all your data is GOOD for you because it's competition.
Nathaniel Gray
>Issue comes down to is what Epic is sending back? everything they scan no doubt
Easton Rodriguez
You're right, we deserve better than this faggot criminal piece of garbage. I look forward to the Chinks at least kicking him out of his own company and leaving him penniless and blacklisted before this is over though.
Jackson Gomez
...
Joshua Walker
>then come crawling back to PC again The Sweeney rises from the ashes. You are not ready for what Tim has in store for us, what wonders.
>no linux support Chinks will never support Linux. Want to know why its obvious Tencent has say in the Epic Storw? No linux support. Meanwhile, steam has been paving the way with Proton. If a compant actively supports an open source platform they are more trustworthy than those who dont. Whether or not you use or care about linux, it says a lot about the companies intention.
epic is doing way more than steam when it comes to quality and filtering shit. That alone makes me want to shop there. Plus they're more respectful to indie devs than steam ever will
Lucas Fisher
Its not filtering when the majority of games arent in your store. At this point in its life Epic will literally take any game they can
Jaxson Lee
Honestly, who gives a shit? Serious question.
Nobody tries to discover new games by scrolling down an alphabetical list of all games on Steam. It doesn't matter if there are twenty billion shitty games on Steam if you never have any reason to be looking at them.
James Perez
If the Epic Store is any indication, their buildings will collapse, their medicines will give you cancer and AIDS, and their cars will explode. All Chinese made.
This is just plain wrong. Steam has gone above and beyond to help out all developers by giving them a full featured platform with tons of avenues to free exposure and tools to engage with the community. Steam has been better to indies than anyone else ever has. Epic hasn't done a single fucking thing for anyone.
>filtering shit that store has barely 30 games to filter anything, most of which are indie titles that been on steam for years notice how nobody is willingly putting their games on epic, they deem its not worthy the hassle despite muh revenue only the ones that are being paid to do so
so what exactly is the implication of this? I'd noticed it did this but I assumed it was from when I did the fortnite friend search. What data is it collecting? Is it just the friends list/groups?
Wyatt Fisher
So it has literally nothing to do with DRM. Got it.
Brody Scott
Fortnite being dead and no one using the store at all has already killed it. In 4 months of the store existing, every game on it has bombed entirely.
Logan Reed
You need to understand that most children touting egs werent around for all of the massive improvements Valve has made to its platform over the years, and how over the moon devs used to be about it before the development scene became infested with self important faggots mad that their 2 hour game about depression isnt selling.
William Watson
>Akibarangers was great Honestly it was the best series And the first Sentai series I've watched I'm hoping they would bring them back or have the actors appear in an another series.
don't watch his speech on TedX the first thing he mentions is a kid playing on a tablet. lmao
Matthew Carter
that's exactly what it's for. when you load up the launcher it checks if you have steam friends, so that it knows whether to ask you if you want to import your steam friends or not
the only problem is that it keeps checking every time you open the launcher
Nicholas Nelson
Yeah, also my first sentai series, though first official sentai was Go-Busters. Though I prefer Kamen Rider after watching Build.
Mason Scott
Its not just friends. Read the thread
Henry Wright
What would TotalBiscuit think about the state of Epic vs Steam?
Leo Baker
Do we have a complete list? Where can we get the stats on this? Also, I'm not exactly in the loop on Fortnite (I have no interest in it). Why did it die off (aside from BR being a passing fad?)
Carson Martinez
He'd roll in his grave knowing Epic's responsible for bringing Console wars into the PC spectrum with Platforms. the literal invention of Platform Wars.
they are copying the file that contains friends data. that file also contains other data, because steam doesn't keep every piece of information in separate files. they've been doing this for a long time before the epic store even existed. this was a fortnite feature
the reason they have to check steam files instead of using the API is so that they know whether to ask the user to import their friends list or not. otherwise, the user would have to find that feature themselves. do they need this feature? no, but who the fuck cares if they check if you have steam friends before telling you about their feature to import steam friends, other than a bunch of raging autists. if they showed it to everyone, people would be bitching about how they get these stupid notifications about Steam even though they don't have Steam
I miss the days when people were complaining about actual problems like no cloud saves and no bandwidth limiting instead of making up chinese boogeyman stories.
Jace Thomas
he'd be shitting on them while petting his doggos for sure
Michael Reed
>it would be too hard to have users import friends themselves using the Steam API so we just harvest the information ourselves and definitely DO NOT do anything with it. Trust us, bro >this is valid in any way
Ian Rodriguez
>the reason they have to check steam files instead of using the API is so that they know whether to ask the user to import their friends list or not. otherwise, the user would have to find that feature themselves That makes no fucking sense at all, with the API it would just send you to Steam's account linking page, no shady data collection or whatever retarded shit you said. There's no excuse for this, it collects and backups data all the time even if you never installed Fortnite or told it to import friends.
William Ramirez
Apex Legends came out and raped the Fortnite playerbase into dust. But even before that the player numbers for Fortnite have been steadily and consistently decreasing since October/November of last year and have not once gone back up. It's becoming an exponential trend of people quitting. Epic has been in an absolute panic since Apex Legends dealt the killing blow. Current projections show that Fortnite will probably not last past the summer.
As far as sales go, we only know that Metro Exodus has flopped with only a little over 2 million sales including console, but it's a safe bet the indies on there haven't sold shit and none of the devs have said a word. Lots of rumors that Supergiant and 4A employees are heavily regretting it though and worried for their jobs.
Kayden Torres
What exactly is the point of pre-emptively doing it vs having the ability to, but not actually doing it until the User initiates and confirms the request to do so?
Carter Butler
>America good, China bad This seems to be the only justification I can get out of Steam fanboys for shilling their spyware while shunning Epic's.
Colton Parker
fortnite is nothing on pc, phones probably overtook it by now
Fucking Sergey Galyonkin ffs what a shitshow. Not even Origin is this terrible
I really miss him
Dylan Edwards
well, think about it from a sales/marketing perspective. are you going to get more people to link their friends if you make them find and click on the button, or are you going to get more by shoving it in their face and going "hey did you know you could link friends? you should link your friends"? yes obviously they could not do it, but they're going to get more people by being proactive about it
they DO use the Steam API to actually do the importing. what they use the file for is checking that you have steam friends in the first place.
Chase Nguyen
>America good, China bad It's unironically true, though.
Would you rather live in America or China? If you'd rather live in China, you're a retard.
Obviously it would be an easy to find option, right on the front menu, yes. But that does not change what I asked/insinuated: It does not need to collect this data until the end user clicks "Yes, please import my Steam friends" and THEN runs the script to gather that shit once they have permission.
Gabriel Reed
>Current projections show that Fortnite will probably not last past the summer. could you post these projections? >Metro Exodus has flopped with only a little over 2 million sales how many on PC? i thought no one knew.
Gavin Perry
4A is certainly peeved about the backlash, an employee got mad and called PC gamers out and said that if boycott it they would not release their next game on PC. It's all a shitshow overall and shows how little publishers and developers care about the people that play their games, you have to be a special kind of fuckface to annoy your potential customers and then act like a victim.
>think about it from a sales/marketing perspective Why are we asking at all? That's bad UX. Just do it man. Look at how much user data we could get. It'll look great for our KPIs. Gonna catch the game later?
Asher Clark
Only a couple hundred thousand because the only PC sales they've made were Steam pre-orders.
Matthew James
>because the only PC sales they've made were Steam pre-orders. source?
Tyler Bennett
>they DO use the Steam API to actually do the importing No they don't and they don't need to make regular backups of all your steam data to know that, why do you keep spewing complete bullshit? How would they even use the Steam API if they never send you to the API approval page? Moron.
Austin Morris
There won't be a next game with how poorly Exodus sold and how high the budget was. 4A is probably not going to survive this year, Deep Silver pocketed the Epic bribe and will just shut them down.
Lincoln Ross
>cert store It needs the certs to encrypt/decrypt things. >IE It uses Tridents system library to render web stuff >script tracking typical webpacked tracking code EVERY website including Yea Forums does this >DLL/Processes comparing exe and dll file hashes against known cheat tools >steam library access see above
Eli Bell
>We can share all info with our "partners"
>Epic games ain't Chinese. Chinamen own ONLY 40% of shares.
see pic for what happens when you try to link your steam account
agreed, I think if they really want people to see it they should just prompt everyone the first time they open it, and if some people don't have steam installed then who cares, but a button in the friends list should be enough
>comparing exe and dll file hashes against known cheat tools Wasn't this with just the store installed, no games? Why the fuck is there anti-cheat scanning without an MP game installed. That shit is invasive as fuck and it's damn shady to be running that spyware without a reason and consent, even if it's some game's eula saying "we use EAC"
Luis Lewis
The VP already said they do send the local data they scraped so it's obviously not just "for checking".
>positive votes, in an anti-epic infested subreddit that has been seething for days Only Sweeney can turn such tides with his unparalleled use of logic and reason.
Jason Williams
They never gave exact numbers, only that it's much, much higher than Last Light. In the hundreds of millions I would guess.
Cameron Morgan
this is the standard button from the friends list to import your steam friends. maybe they're talking about a feature that allows you to invite friends to the epic games store? I don't think I've seen that but it could exist
Dylan Thompson
It's their service and file setup. Epic shouldn't look for steam shit at all, let alone record it.
Adrian Murphy
>literally just "sorry we got caught, we will still keep doing it though! MUH REVSHARE" lmao
Hudson Ward
You are such an idiot it's funny. All closed source software is spyware.
games journalists really looking for new jobs, huh?
Caleb White
>I would guess. ah. and what about the 0 sold games in the epic store. more guesswork of yours?
Xavier Brooks
It is true that Tencent only owns 40% share. It's just that none of the other shareholders have larger shares than that. Tim Sweeney holds a fraction of that. That's how stock works. That makes Tencent the boss.
Cooper Gonzalez
From this point on if it's on Epic then i'll fucking pirate jesus christ these faggots are shady.
THE PEDO CHINA AGENT RESPONDED CHECK THE HIS EXCUSES WTF >got fucking caught >bu-but we should do this b-better
WTF
Austin Morales
It literally says what they're doing and why, and that they're changing it to a way that doesn't get any data from steam until you tell it to. But that's not what people wanted, because people want to be mad and they want the Epic store to go away. This was never about privacy concerns in the first place for you.
Landon White
Nope. That's just insider sources, which I would never disclose to a Chink Tencent employee who could get them fired such as you.
Oliver Lee
>neocities authoritative sources from games "journalists"
will we be hearing from your dad at nintendo?
Hudson Howard
>Tim Sweeney holds a fraction of that 1/2 of 100% is quite a large fraction user.
Noah Brooks
you just know this is bullshit. Going through all these hoops, not just using the fucking Steam API, and instead scraping the fucking application without anyone's permission every time you launch it. Implying this is an actual mistake, did no one on the development side say "hey, this is kind of ridculous and will probably piss people off" at any point? They are either malicious or incompetant, and it's likely a bit of both. If you ever wonder why Steam became the most used platform, it's because it's a piece of software that makes fucking sense in how it functions. You won't see a Valve lead having to explain why they refuse to use a third party API, and instead gather information from that application without your permission
Jacob Anderson
It literally doesn't matter what they say at all since EVERYTHING points to them collecting data, they obfuscate the stolen file on purpose so you can't know exactly what's being sent to the servers, this will never be a resolved matter until the client stops doing this and the change he proposed has no practical difference in this.
Lincoln Torres
>That's just insider sources, which I would never disclose to a Chink Tencent employee who could get them fired such as you. haha you got me! i must be a shill since i am making up numbers.
oh wait that's you.
Samuel Parker
they could give you the source code and let you build it yourself and you still wouldn't be satisfied
Dominic Lopez
He does not control 50% share of the company. Why are you trying to lie about this? It isn't a secret. What the fuck is wrong with you?
Oliver Cox
I'm just happy since this place has been plagued by Epic vs Steam debacle for so long. I wonder how they're gonna mental gymnastics this thing tho
You can't debunk a single thing from that link. Best you stay out of arguments your tiny brain can't understand.

>t's all a shitshow overall and shows how little publishers and developers care about the people that play their games I'm not sure it's fair to say this of devs. Devs just want people to play their games. They also like to get paid, which is where Publishers come in.
has to be full damage control at this point - why is he defending chinese spies ?
Christian Sullivan
I can debunk the Spyware level. Given Pen Testing is my job I can assure you that Steam barely ranks above not a threat.
Literally every application that interfaces with the internet phones home. This means NOTHING from a pen testing perspective.
Steam doesn't publicly broadcast anything about your usage unless you let it.
VAC monitors your browser cache for known hack sites; this is something they explicitly outline in the user agreement. (All other anti-cheat software does this as well.)
I'm not sure what they mean by "self-updating software," but the description is, of course, complete bullshit. Steam functions perfectly even if you don't update it.
I'm not even sure what to say about asking you for your phone number being spyware.
In future: stfu, never come back. is where you belong.
They actually answer questions instantly. I kinda trust them now. What good games do they have besides this xcom thingy?
Jackson Robinson
>I posted a link of a developer saying the opposite of that. You posted a link of a Russian. They would literally put out their own eye to blind their neighbors.
Juan Rivera
they also know all your payment related info. they know your email, paypal, credit card number, buying habits. now they can attach that info to your profile and give you relevant ads while also trying to siphon your funds out of your bank account.
Because they own him and his company. He's greedy coward and traitor and it's biting him in the ass slowly but surely. This will provably all end with his company bankrupt and dropped by Tencent and him in prison.

funny thing is a lot of people here play league, which is owned by the same company. but no, you wont remove that client

That site is very fearmongery and doesn't explain the context of the data (everything there like phone number and such has to be explicitly typed in by you for example).
Jayden Barnes
Yeah this too, they basically stole decades of sales data from Steam to use for targeted advertising and market strategy.
Jayden Garcia
