What do you call "high tier Elite Smash"? 4.16M with this joke of a character and I still think the dev time would have been better spent on an Echo Fighter.

He has a fun moveset and I'm enjoying that some people still have legitimate salt over it, so I wouldn't have it any other way.

Lots of people main a character because they loved their game, especially the ones from the last decade. It's one of the main draws of this series over other kicky games.

Was it a waste of time to implement Bayonetta, Sheik, Kirby, Ice Climbers, or any other returning character people barely play? Would that dev time have been better spent elsewhere?

Bayo is a fancy, beloved heroine from an ongoing game series. Keep her.

Sheik has a fun, well-designed kit they can't just throw out, even if it's tuned badly.

Fuck Ice Climbers, they're just here for completeness' sake and even then there was no reason to keep them paired. That was absolutely a waste of time.

Kirby has an awful kit that's nowhere near the way his home series plays. Nonetheless he's popular and his series is still going. He needs a complete rework. That's where I would have allocated the time if possible.

The difference is that Plant is a newcomer. More effort was required to design and balance a B-list mook than a legacy loser who's only HERE because EVERYONE IS. And then that mook turned out to be mook-tier on top of that, because .

Not op but I can digress if Plant were ever cut I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. The difference in the situation here is that Ice Climbers for better or worse are seniority when it comes to smash and are for the most part "part of the gang" this would have changed if they had been gone after Melee. They wouldn't even be candidates for DLC like Lucas was because how attached people got to Lucas after his one appearance as his character background made people more accepting to him and garnered pity/adulation.

No matter how you slice it most people wont care if its gone next game.

Piranha Plant was probably put in because otherwise every newcomer would have a humanoid body plan. In every game since Brawl there's ben at least one nonhumanoid character, and the game designers probably want a creative challenge.

I never really picked up the plant, my friend still plays them though. Honestly haven't really used many of the new characters much, though Inkling's been the most fun whenever I tried them out.
