I would have expected something more than what I can get without paying anything extra. I don't actually expect them to beat or even meet that standard, but I do expect them to match the price.

Nintendo barely has any games with online. 2 years later, Smash and Splatoon 2 are the only ones. Most people won't play those for a year, they'll get bored.
It's way cheaper to just buy a 1 or 3 month sub when you get a new game rather than buying a year and then wasting 75% of it.

I like playing Tetris 99 but yeah, NES games are too archaic and life is too short to wait a month for 2 shitty ones when you can torrent a MEME collection of every ROM in a few minutes.

I like startropics and blaster master a lot so to me it isn’t too big of a deal. Besides, the online on the games I do play is noticeably better.

If you plan on playing those games now, then yes. You are right. But, as I said, I play certain games online from time to time, depends on the mood. If I pay 5 euros now (assuming it's 5 euros for 3 months, I'm not sure, and am too lazy to check now) I'll just have this giant hammer over my head that will keep hitting me and say ''play online now, while your subscription lasts'', which brings back all those bad X360 XBox Live memories.

I own carts of those 10 games and I spent less than $20 for all of them. I don't need to be online to play those games and better yet I actually own them, so even if I decided to stop paying for some "service" I'd still be able to play them.

How is PC not competition if I can play many of the same games available on consoles? The same costs are associated with both and it is a perfectly fair comparison. You can't just say I am not allowed to present evidence against your argument and declare yourself the winner. Even ignoring that, the cost of online play were bundled into the cost of the game on previous consoles. It was never actually free. If I pay Over $60 to play Mario Kart 8 on the switch compared to only paying $60 on the Wii U, that is an extra cost.
