genre's not that shit but the games and films suck. musicians and writers are generally ok in the independent scene but beyond that the concept crashes and burns. In my opinion you just have to be really selective about what you consume. For instances I'd never fuck with deus ex but i'm totally cool with gemini rue.

I like this video on the subject, and I think I would go further than he does and say vidya struggles because of the expectations of it to balance narrative and gameplay in a way where neither suffers and both are good. However, that is an obvious fantasy as there must be sacrifices made during development and because of the difficulty of constructing a compelling Cyberpunk narrative and the fact that video games tend to lean towards "gameplay first" that means the narrative is that which suffers and the result is a game that is, in all likelyhood. A run of the mill first person shooter or RPG with a coat of neon and chrome leftover as a reminder to the themes that the game was meant to convey.
