DMC5 is legitimately a 9.5 game but no one can ever tell me that the RE engine was a good choice for the artstyle. Plus the fucking game can be so dark and busy detail wise that I'm sure that's why there's barely any fighting coreography and crazy cutscene spectacle.

Which moves give you the most trouble? Generally stay airborne in his faces, use Trickster and Enemy Step to dodge his lunge and stomp

Watch what he does. He's not hard at all, and I noticed he's quite a well structured boss fight.

I honestly thought that the sword/gauntlets combo wasn't never going to change that much. There have been additions and subtle improvements made, but essentially it's been the exact same since Alastor/Ifrit until now. That combo was perfect, and now Itsuno has actually improved on perfection.

You need Level 2 Trickster to do

Use enemy step with swordmaster when up close. Use trickster to dodge swipes when needed and book the fuck out when they prep an explosion. Pro-tip: shoot all the electric balls from afar with E&I then go in. If they respawn while in, either retreat and repeat OR Gunslinger+Shotgun or Swordmaster+DSD to spawn swords.

mission 18 is actually hard as fuck on SoS. Neither the panther of the bird have a tell before attacking, and you're liable to being forced to restart the whole mission if you end up with too little health at the end.

Mission 5 is pretty tedious on SoS and DMD. A complete drag

I tried to mention it in the last thread, but someone asked how to best equip Nero's breakers. I have more success being frugal with them, rather than hoarding as many as I can carry.

>Statues/booths are mandatory stops for Nero. De-equip the arms you don't need, to save them for later use

Completely agree. Whenever playing DMC3 I'd always avoid Rebellion and Beowulf since variants on their playstyle is found so often in the series, in 1 you only had the swords and Ifrit, in 4 Dante's only good melee was Rebellion and Gilgamesh, in both 3SE and 4SE Vergil had FE and Beowulf, in 2 and 4SE most of Trish was just 1Dante. I don't even really like DSD's summoned swords on swordmaster, but I'm glad it is what it is, and Balrog's fucking great.

I just fought the first boss. The game has entirely new animations and sequences in NG+. Nero can take the big guy and smash him into buildings with his Devil Arm that he couldn't do in in NG1. This is crazy to me.

dmc1 and dmc3 had much more soul, dmc4 was more technically challenging and had much more satisfying attack animations (especially on nero)

its obvious itsuno doesn't care that much about the series anymore, i mean when some of his main selling points of the game are face scanning and smoother enemy stepping it's clear that there's nothing really left for him to do with the series

the biggest disappointments are the environments, many of them look nice but they're completely featureless and don't really connect in the way they did in all the other games (even 4)

it's a good game but i can't see it having much of an impact or staying power long term, i'm not even sure if i can say i'm glad it was made since it might be the final nail in the coffin for the series which could have made a comeback under a different director

I'm not that user, and I disagree with him saying the environments are disappointing, but I wish that the Temen-Ni-Gru was present. iirc it was never dealt with after DMC3, the hellgate on top was closed and it was just kinda left there. Would have been cool for the Qliopoth to be growing out of the remnants of the tower, especially after the reveal of Vergil being the primary antagonist. Imagine the final battle taking place at the top of Temen-Ni-Gru, right where it started for Dante and Vergil in DMC3. Missed potential.

I was kinda hoping Overture would get more special animations for other boss counters, but they're kinda flat, and unless my timing's just awful you can't catch Vergil with it outside of normal parries. The best fights are against the humanoids/slightly bigger than you fights. One of the best parts about MGR was that most of the boss fights was against other humans/cyborgs that were equal to your size and made the fights feel better. After playing DMC5 for 50 hours here is my take

Physics & juggle depth
DMC4>DMC3>DMC5
Enemies are incredibly floaty, game speed is pretty slow, royal guard timing is arbitrary and hitboxes are not as tight compared to DMC3 or DMC4

Enemies
DMC5>DMC3>DMC4
DMC3 and 4 enemies ranges from punching bags to total bullshit you avoid. DMC5 has most fun enemies, including bosses no contest

Campaign
DMC5>DMC3>DMC4
DMC3 still features some teleporting backtracking nonsense and copy pasted rooms. DMC5 has fair share of repeat bosses (Urizen fought 4 times) but overall it is the most complete content.

Final boss
DMC3>DMC5>>>>>>>DMC4
I'm irked by some casualization on Vergil. His helm splitter is DmC Vorgil helmsplitter that gives you free royal guard. He doesn't parry as often, and when you parried you're still given chance to avoid his follow up. In DMC3 when you got parried Vergil can do guaranteed upper slash. The Vergil 737 airline divebomb is easy to counter and kind of a cinematic waste of time that breaks the pacing of the fight. Judgement Nut end effects looks fantastic, but it is EZ to avoid and counter with guns/laser/drive-overdrive. I'd rather have a full screen judgement nut in which you're required to break Vergil's poise. At the moment it is only breaking the pace of the fight similar to 737 flight divebombs.

Overall, I'm envisioning the meta to switch from technical juggling punching bags in DMC4 to doing stylish boss rushes because the bosses are incredibly fun. Of several combo videos already out, I find it easier to replicate the complex moves than in DMC4. In DMC4 I cannot star rave despite weeks of practice, in DMC5 I can starrave EZ after 30 minutes of practice.

The engine influenced the style in that they specifically used the engine and it was made for a specified style. RE was built with mo-capped facial animation and photorealistic scanned faces as a driving factor, so that's what they were going to use.

I am getting near unplayable fps bug on Nero's mission with Malphas (mission 15). Anybody know the fix? Tuning down game settings doesn't improve fps, and I'm getting >90 fps on cutscenes (which is the bottleneck for most people).

I tried disabling online and it still doesn't help. I'm playing with RX580 which is more than enough, and bought the card specifically for this game.

Balrog/RG for fire puppo. Rainstorm to take out lightning balls and try to stay high against lightning puppo to not get hit by his slam. Ice doge is the one I had most trouble with, but staying close keeps him from doing too many annoying things. Just run whenever he does the roar with the small icicle rain. If you manage to take out a head, I'd recommend focusing your damage on the top (ice) head before he switches elements since I think it's the hardest.

In Mission 10 you're only judged on 3 out of 5 mandatory rooms, the rolling lizard intro room, fire hellbat room and final room with angelo squad. Make sure to get SSS rank and stall a little bit there. I found gaming the system by using Dance Macabre and Real Impact helps a lot because those give you tons of styles.

Be patient, stay safe and try to do as much chip damage as you can. If you just do the SDT nuke, you'll get SSS rank but enemies die too fast so you'll still get low ranking.
