I've just finished The Witcher 3 and found the main story was... just okay?

After I finished with the legitimately great Bloody Baron arc, I found it hard to care about anything else in the story, so I don't get why people regard it as a masterpiece.

it was yet another zoomer's first open-world story-driven action RPG.

TW1:EE is the series' best game, and books BTFO the games.

How so?

"""Gamers""" don't read books, and they don't play older games, so they don't know what good writing is.

Did you play the other games and read the books first? The Witcher 3 is the final chapter in a huge series.

Anyone else get feels when Geralt shows pain and guilt after thinking he burnt the baby alive despite being a super stoic character

Most 'people' who rave about it finished the bb arc and then quit

What you mean "how so"?
How was it consolikids' first game? Because besides 2 being also on 360, the predecessors did not have large mainstream availability nor marketing.
TW2 was already made for AssCreed & DeS audiences, and 3 just continued that trend. The gameplay and UI design are made for gamepad wielders, and overall the games are streamlined quite a ton.

No, I meant to ask why you think the first Witcher is the best and your implication that the games don’t do the books justice.

No, actually. It’s a bad habit of mine to get into things in a counter-chronological order.
It’s like how I played Skyrim, then Oblivion, then Morrowind.

Call me an idiot, but I was really sad when I saw that it wasn't a Gothic 1/2 type of game.
The main character looks a lot like the one in Gothic.

yeah, the main story kind of sucks, the real meat of the game, plotwise, is in the dlcs and side quests.

Because it is the only proper CRPG, with more ROLE-playing than casual slashing shit, and truly open & varied gameplay. It also does not suffer of modern cancers, like QTEs, "Batman vision", etc.

Huh, I guess that might be worth a look, then.
Do I have to read the books first or can I just jump right into the first game?

>After I finished with the legitimately great Bloody Baron arc, I found it hard to care about anything else in the story
All games put the best content 1-3 hours in because reviewers won't go any further

Even the rampages you usually do in games after you quicksave when you get bored just don’t feel fun in this one, what the hell.

I just finished the bloody baron myself. I thought it was brilliant. is it really all down hill from here?

The main story is just okay, and I know the backstory. I still think the game is great, just not cuz of the main questline

OP here. It wasn’t downhill per-say, but rather just a subtly descending slope that feels downhill once you reach the end and realize how literally nothing you did ever mattered if the post-credit open-world is frozen in time before the finale.

ROMANCE CARDS NIGGA!

The Witcher books themselves are trash.

I personally don't think so. Perhaps because I read the books beforehand and played the tw2. If you are bored with games like most of the \v\ then it might be. The dlcs are great though.

>Do I have to read the books first or can I just jump right into the first game?
Not really. TW1 is practically MADE for folks who didn't read the books, as it quick-summarizes Geralt's history, his demise, and his mysterious resurrection.
I find it very disturbing that there are ""Witcher fans"" who've not even touched the books or played the 1st game of the fucking TRILOGY.

I've just gotten into the franchise. Anyway, you know a good place I can get e-book versions of the Witcher?

My favorite bits were fathering Ciri, The baron arc was great, but Ciri having flashbacks to our snowball fight and other tender moments really touched me. And the ending of Blood & Wine was the icing on the cake.

Ciri came to visit me on the farm.

I really wish games would stop doing this i just want a fucking epilogue for fucks sake is that too much to ask?

>spend a shitload of time to create a post-game world that shows the consequences of the player's choices
>only 19% of players ever actually beat the game and see it

If you are an adult man and you can't cook, then it's time to think about your life choices

>19%
You're exaggerating how many people actually beat games. Only about 50% of all players make it past the tutorial in any given game.

Forgot my pic.

I really liked the contrast between Novigrad areas and Toussaint. While Novigrad was this kinda damp and dark looking area, Toussaint was pretty colorful and nice to look at. No wonder why Geralt wanted to stay there for his retirement.

You mean to tell me people have bought the game and didn't even bother launching it?

You tell me.
