Because Itsuno felt like he reached the zenith of what could be done with Dante in 3, minus style switching which was included later. He wants to have multiple characters because Dante has basically reached his summit and there’s no meaningful evolution to his gameplay left to be made, he’s fully realised and has been for years. Nero is intended to be the beginner friendly character and he wants to move the series in a direction where it has multiple player characters. Dante will for sure always be an SE character because he’s just pure fun but there isn’t really anything new that can be done with him besides more gimmicky weapons, since everything else is already covered and to a high enough standard that the only improvements that can be made for him are tiny and incremental.

They already said that this game is the end of the Sims of Sparda storyline. Expect them in DMC6SE but not DMC6.

I can get down with this. Nero would have to either take on Mundus & this guys son is trying to either take his power, or helps Nero. He has been doing the summoning familiars before V. So his son can easily inherit that trait.

I wouldn't mind a new cast as long as it's not a reboot. New stuff is cool. Just don't take what already exists and make a shittier version of it like DmC.

They said they were ending the Sons of Sparda storyline in this one. Dante and Vergil going to Hell is kind of a way to get them out of the story and tie up their whole dynamic nicely in order to move on to other characters. Next game will be about Nero with maybe an appearance by Dante and Vergil. I don't like it any more than you do. I like Nero but I'd rather the next game be about Dante and Vergil as well.

Oh no doubt about it. But I could see a descendant of his take over his magical proneness, which was actually pretty good. He could summon demons like nothing.

I like Dante a ton but really where do they take him next? He’s basically been ‘complete’ in terms of his gameplay and mechanics since 3 and there’s really nothing left to do with him. They’ve realised all the potential he has and while they can still fine tune and give him new gimmicks, his core gameplay has been refined to a point that there’s nowhere left for them to improve. While he’s still the most fun character for obvious reasons I think the games would start to stagnate if they keep using him. Any advances they make with him will only be tiny steps forward so his missions would likely be the same. I think their best option is to just make a game based around Nero and whatever other new or returning characters they want, and for Dante to basically be a bonus character you can play through the whole campaign with afterwards. He’s too good to ditch but if he continues being the focus then I feel the overall quality would suffer.

That could just mean that they're no longer enemies and instead bash brothers who work together.

He still has a lot to flesh out gameplay wise, but I think that’s why he’s good to base future games on since it’ll push them to keep innovating on all fronts. Devil Breakers were a really good first step imo, but obviously he doesn’t have the depth and polish Dante does yet since Dante has three games up on him.

Wow, this idea actually doesn’t sound bad. Just checked his boss fight, and while extremely lame, his mannerisms are 10/10, and his summoning can be used as a gameplay element. If they aren’t going to bring back V, they can easily incorporate something like this guy into the new series

Nero feels a little samey in cut scenes but in gameplay/taunts, he's totally different. V makes Dante and Nero feel fucking identical in comparison though. They've got to emphasize more how much of a hothead Nero is, how he's smart but can get over emotional and rip shit up and how he's more angry/mocking than Dante's cool, detached teasing.

Dante meanwhile should be relaxed, laid back and generally calm but get super interested in fighting powerful demons because 1. he's helping people 2. he wants to see what they can do and 3. he wants to continually improve himself. I'd also emphasise how he's maybe not as mechanically minded as Nero but he has a ton of familiarity with demons. Have it be a big deal when he doesn't know a type.

I don't think weapon switching would work terribly well for Nero. Where would you even put the weapon-switch button? He's got his own mechanics that make him distinct from Dante. Trying to switch between weapons while managing DT, charge shots, Devil Breakers, and Exceed sounds like a hand-blistering headache.

you can literally alternate between cat and bird and infusing them with devil trigger while never summoning the golem and wreck everything on the hardest difficulty without them dying or anything coming close to you.
its a major oversight in my opinion.

Default is fine and you're probably mashing or trying to juggle them
But if you skipped tutorials by turning them off, like me, the almost unintuitive thing about it is pressing LT + Pet gives them DT gauge and then they not only attack automatically, but also do multiple attacks simultaneously, so since Griffin is pretty safe in general being in the air, you can just juice him and still make DT for Nightmare bombardment or solely focus on comboing with Shadow.

Just finished my first run last night. What a trip y’all. I’m glad to have had these threads with you all over the last few months. It lived up to almost every expectation I had of it except difficulty (compared to 3, at least). Devil Hunter was much easier than 3's Normal, so it would have been nice to allow Son of Sparda from the beginning for those who want a hard first run.
Tracked my deaths on the bosses, only 2 I had more than 5 deaths to were Malphus (couldn’t figure out how to counter his rampage) and Dante Vs. Vergil (insisted on only DSD/E&I and Royal Guarding his charge). By far the best set of bosses in a DMC game for me.
What are the “victory conditions” for the two little credit sequences with Nero in the streets and Dante/Vergil in the Underworld? I don’t think I unlocked anything, but it wasn’t clear what I was being graded on unlike the 100 kills thing from 3.

Considering that there are mission named as "Divergence point" I would assume that it's a specific mode to let us play any level as anyone. They would have probably needed to alter some of the layouts depending on character, or to give us more abilities to let those characters traverse. Mission 3 has nothing but Grim Grips in the first section, so only Nero can progress. Either they give us the ability to uses teleports to cross those gaps, or just make those sections walkable. Either way, not being able to play any mission with any character was a complaint people had, so this would solve it.

Make sure you've bought the ability to jump off of enemies. Run up to the grounded enemy, then lock onto the flying enemy. Keep jumping off of the grounded enemy, tweaking yourself to stay above him as necessary. If you activate a double jump by accident instead of jumping off the grounded enemy, start shooting the flying enemy to keep yourself airborne and correct yourself, giving yourself plenty of time to sort yourself out and land properly on the grounded enemy again. That's how I did it, thought it made it much easier.

It's made for breaking shields. Any of the enemies that can guard get fucked by it, a full regular move will always break a shield and the break age breaks them as well. So if you have a group of Scudo that you want them to never block, break age that shit and then go to town.

PVP would do this game no good because you'd primarily find people not fighting for style, just exploiting the best type of weapon set and move to win. And balancing a game like this around PVP would ruin the game by nerfing such moves and trying to homogenize movesets.

Character development can go in the wrong direction/make a character worse. It's not always done well or interestingly.

It's different from 3 because part of Vergil's cold persona was that he had goals unrelated to Dante and pursued them constantly while Dante just wanted to mindlessly fight him because he didn't like him and eventually, is able to beat Vergil when he gets a reason to fight outside of his simple dislike for him. Vergil meanwhile only ever shows his human side when he's fighting Dante or reflecting on their parents. That's how he is for most of the game; cold, dispassionate and utterly focus.

Compare that to this game where his sole focus is on Dante, literally everything about the tree was just to fight Dante again, he has no other motivations than Dante and at the end, since he only interacts with Dante he only seems hot blooded, focused on Dante and he spends the entire game ruled by passion.

Vergil turned into a mindless zombie after getting fucked by mundus pretty much since he was 18, he only got freed 10 years later. Vergil's goal changed because of that experience, he now hated dante's guts for what happened to him so his entire motivation is still seeking power but its to beat dante now.
