As for movesets, the Links' missed potential is the same as Mewtwo and Lucario in which Sakurai takes the lazy route and would probably say "their mains wouldn't want change" if he had to. Sheik is flat out 'Puff in the sense that any other dev would boot them. I think Ganondorf could get some more tweaks to bridge together his canon and Smash versions instead of a full overhaul. Alternatively, put Wind Waker Ganondorf in.

Well that's one of the reasons I'd want new ones on top of just wanting fresh faces and representation. Big pool that can be dipped into that can create some cool characters and I'd like to see that. Personally I'd like to see a Gen 3 starter, or a new pokemon trainer using those starters.

And as a fire emblem fan the representation of the series in smash is painful (barring Robin), there are plenty of lords/characters popular enough and with different enough aesthetics/styles to build a move set around.

Unlikely. So much of Smash now is just Sakurai jerking off his previous accomplishments. Look at all these stages! (most of which have the same basic themes). Look at all these characters! (that I refuse to change from their debut unless there's unanimous demand, that are often redundant or weird last second picks leading to shitters like Dark Pit being presented as equal with Cloud or Simon Belmont). The series has built up this identity around how much content there is, nevermind that more and more of it is just from previous titles.

The problem there is that Smash very rarely includes secondary characters that aren't hacked together clones/semi-clones/echo fighters.

Sheik is basically the closest equivalent to characters like Midna or Ghirahim on the playable roster, being a one-off non-protagonist character. Thing is, Sheik is basically just Zelda: she was her alter ego in OOT and ergo got into Melee as apart of Zelda's transformation gimmick. Had Sheik been an entirely seperate character from Zelda in OOT, she would of never been included.

In my Project M modding days there was someone working on a Young Link moveset that would've integrated his transformations by having their "spirits" emerge kinda like a Stand, rather than having Yink fully transform (e.g. Mikau's spirit would emerge from Link to throw his boomerang fins, Deku Butler's son's spirit would appear to propel Link upward with the Flower Copters, etc), but predictably that went nowhere. Even that would've been better than nothing IMO.

I don't care about Zelda in Smash, Hyrule Warriors on its vanilla release did more there than Smash has in eighteen years. If Y. Link was going to come back, they could have made his moveset more Majora-influenced or T. Link have moves from his respective games. You got all these characters to use but the best Sakurai could do is retread Y. Link and then not even do anything with him for two games on top of nerfing T when Y came back. Yeah, I know Zelda has it good with items and stages/etc. but its playables need work. But as I said, let Sakurai do what he wants, HW already scratched most of my itches.

There is nothing wrong with Sheik being in considering the first Zelda introduced to Smash was the OoT one. She also added the transformation mechanic to the gmae which would be later explored by Pokemon Trainer.

Sakurai did say that Smash U was either going to be a total reboot of the franchise, starting from scrap with only a bunch of characters in it, or, well, what it ended up being: a Smash Dream Match Edition.
When/If Smash 6 comes out, I wouldn't be surprised if he goes back to this idea and just make a game with 10-12 characters, but with overhauled movesets and mechanics.

And again, no character “needed/needs” or “deserved/deserves” to be in this game, period.

Well those are events, and I can tell you from my personal experience that shinies don't come to you willy-nilly despite having around twenty legit ones.

They literally cannot make another Smash game with nearly as many characters, unless it’s just “Ultimate+”. It would maybe have as many as Brawl if they decided to go through and give the returning veterans an overhaul. It’ll be a substantial reboot

They are pretty easy to get in Lets Go. Well it can still be a massive drag but it's the only time I've ever shiny hunted and got something. I've been playing since Red and Blue and my first legit shiny was a Sneasal in X&Y. Then a Duglit in the same game and Pinser from an egg in ORAS

I like the idea of the main 3 Zelda reps getting Smash exclusive designs, like how HW did (4 if Sheik returns). You can have a mix of design aspects and influences rather than settling on just one.

In the long run, I do agree. She wouldn't even need to be functionally different from Sheik (unless, you know, they'd actually like to give Impa actual shit that Impa and/or Sheikah do in the series like the flash bang).

As I said earlier, HW got it right in so many ways it's not even funny.

The problem with Tingle is his time has mostly come to pass.

One thing most people overlook is that the last 'mainline' Zelda game Tingle was actually in was The Minish Cap, which was released back in 2004. He had his own game series for awhile, but it's been almost 10 years since it last had an installment, and none of his games even came out in the US.

Outside of minor references like the plush doll in Skyward Sword, he's been mostly pushed out of the spotlight. Yes, he was playable in Hyrule Warriors, but he barely even made it into that game: Aonuma vetoed him from the base roster and suggested the team to use another character in his place, and apparantly Nintendo was still apprenhensive of him being DLC. And that was just a non-canon spinoff.

It's pretty obvious that Nintendo caught wind of how disliked Tingle is in America (which is a big problem considering that's where Zelda has always been most popular) and thus that's why he's been mostly phased out.

The whole point of echoes is that they're close enough to the originals they don't increase balancing time much. The alternate specials from 4 would require serious rebalancing, which is probably why they weren't used back in 4 to give them different specials in the first place.

Keep in mind that Toon Zelda doesn't exist only in Wind Waker. Even the current Zelda has an attack that only was ever used by a Toon Zelda.

I agree but unfortunately Sakurai prioritizes first levels because that’s what most people are familiar with. The antithesis of that is typically the bosses area, which would be seen at the end

K. Rool with the Flying Krock or the boxing ring with a DK64 flair would have been enough for me.
