A lot of people mash with V and it's true, that does suffice for a lot of fights, but I feel I've got a good rhythm down for how he really works and am eager to show him off, especially if there's multiplayer. I always love the character in a fighting game that's actually multiple people.

Lets say Vergil actually stayed for Nero as a kid, how would he be as a father? would he take him to hell as a camping trip?

I'm stilling bouncing between everyone, but weapon switching really takes the fun factor to the next level for me.

That said, I think Dante and Nero are both on par mechanically. V's the only one that feels lacking, and even then I think he has an amazing foundation that really only needs some more moves on his cane, like a Nelo Angelo stand summon or some shit.

V is incredibly satisfying to play, but he doesn't have much going for him all things considered

Nero's fun he doesn't really feel he's gotten started until the end. The Devil Arms are too annoying to use. they're really only consumables cause they want you to buy their shit. should have just made them switchable with the D-Pad like styles

Furies are considered too cool to be touched easily so they have a stupid long buster animation of them trying to counter Nero. It's like Vergil stabbing Nero but Nero just stabbing him back.

I enjoy using all three, though. V's just too strong. None of his victories feel earned. You can spam and mash out your victories.

V even though it sucks that he doesn't get anything new unlike Nero or Dante. Hopefully they give him some new Demons as DLC or something. Also patch in some new lines for his Book reading, only having the two is lame.

Does anyone else find Royal Guard way too easy in this game?

Someone mentioned it has the same amount of parry frames as DMC3 but I don't remember it being this easy in 3, like Vergil in 5 becomes trivial when you use Royal Guard on him.

here's what I used. extract the rar, run quickbms_4gb_files.exe. select the script called re2_pak_unpack.bms. use the file called "re_chunk_000.pak" in the DMC5 directory (assuming you have a dev build, select the pak file from there). then, select an export directory. let it do its thing.

then, take all the .tex files and rename them all to have the filetype ".tex.10". you can do this by opening up cmd in the extract directory and entering the command "ren *.tex *.tex.10".

then, you can view those files in Noesis. have fun, user! if you need more help I'll be here.

Royal Guard makes him extremely easy, his attacks are very predictable, just switch to Trickster and dodge when he starts throwing out multiple judgement cuts

When the game feels pretty easy. I have no trouble with the game at all and there was no learning curve. I skipped difficulties and still had no problem. Each fight should feel like a "okay" combo video.

You've become really good at it when each fight is webm worthy.

You don't get staggered for failing them and they have less recovery frames. It's still the same window though.

If the arms were consumables so you'd buy the mts they wouldn't be so cheap you'll never run out in any possibility. Its to force variation and resource management with the breakages.

If you beat it on Hard/Son of Sparda without items, you're already doing better than 90% of people that play these games. Beyond that, how good do you want to get? Set your own goals. I like to beat all the games on DMD without using any items. Some people like to get all S ranks. Some people like to beat DMD without getting hit.

The amount of shit you can do with Dante is insane, I keep finding new shit out left and right. Share the most recent shit you've learned, no matter how stupid

I'd say being able to beat DMD forces you to be pretty good. A lot of it though is you yourself will feel when you're taking advantage of the games mechanics and you see all the opportunities enemies give you.

Currently going through SoS, Dante is the most fun I’ve ever had with a character in these types of games, and I played them all. I can’t fucking wait for DMD mode and Bloody Palace, I wish they added Must Style Mode and Gods Must Die to this game.

When you’re consistently getting SSS, not using items and playing with the bosses instead of getting worried they’ll kill you, at least for me.

I don’t like getting S in missions in most DMC games because I hate how they count time and red orbs to get the highest score, I really like 5 doesn’t do this.

Mission 11, get to the bit where you have to destroy several blood clots to lower some floors. After destroying one of them the camera will pan to a painting, go back to that painting, as you're heading towards it there's a dark room on the right, the Kalina Ann is in there.

and remember that dt buffing griffon and shadow causes them to significantly more damage, but you also have to be careful to keep enough dt you can bring nightmare out if they both go down and put you in a bad spot. Also you have i frames while summoning nightmare so if you have no other defensive options at the time you can do that.

Dante is so much more fun it hurts, he should be the one to have the most missions, DMC is his franchise after all. Nero is ok as a ‘Robin’ side character, but I’m getting sick at how much Capcom attempts to make me like him when Dante is instantly likeable and insanely more fun to play with.

Using Trickster and Swordmaster with Balrog is a hell of a lot of fun. The gauntlet weapons in DMC have always been my favorite and I love the raw power of Balrog.

Urizen had no humanity at all, none of Vergil's memories or feelings, he was purely Vergil's demon essence and his desire to gain more power. It was tragic/ironic that Vergil's lust for power led him to seek the power that killed his own mother.

Remember how he said he'd like to be protected before? And Dante went out of his way to say he was going to watch his back twice before the end? All the subtle stuff about the brother's reconciling is great.

It's because Itsuno feels like Dante isn't his character.
Nero, Lady, Vergil. They're all his characters because he made them or fleshed them out. That's why he's always kinda felt weird about Dante.

Plot does indeed dictate direction and usage of characters however I also believe they should have let us play as anyone after completing the game, give them a bonus ability to navigate what they couldn't before like allowing Dante to use the grapple things as a kick off for trickster or something.

DMC3 Dante is way more developed than DMC1 Dante, in every way (story, gameplay, etc).
DMC5 Dante has an insanely large moveset and it's clear there was a ton of love put into him.
The REAL reason Dante isn't the sole main character is because they would have to casualize him. By putting him alongside simpler characters, he's allowed to be the advanced character. There's a reason they wait until almost halfway through the game to introduce him.

Beowulf will always be king. I was hoping Balrog was going to be like it but instead it's all weird. Balrog is still cool but charging all your moves with Beo and doing lightning legs will always make it king, as well as Lunar Phase the GOAT.

Any tips on SOS Dante? I have no problem clearing the missions, but my style ranking is only between 3500-4000 points per encounter and kept getting A rank instead of S. Honestly I'm doing better on DMD because enemies have more health, SOS is the awkward inbetween where you don't get enough hits in but they still judge you incredibly harshly

I know the story is primarily focused on Dante/Nero/Vergil but goddamn Lady and Trish got shafted almost as hard as 4. At least give them one fucking fight scene to show them kicking ass or something goddamn. And don't say that they are just superfluous now outside of the games they were introduced, Lady's small little comment to Nero about killing family was pretty poignant and shows that there is still depth to the characters you can absolutely work with. Hopefully DLC will fix this

Dance macabre when the enemy has very low HP. It doesn't kill the enemy until the very last hit and it generates shit tons of style points.

I think it was his time as V that changed him, hence the black jacket and blue vest to reflect the reversal of demonic and human values.

I just can't play Dante anymore after he switched Sparda for Dante. I rely on Sparda's spin attacks so much, and I just can't get as good with Dante and the ghost swords.

Mission 11 is where Kalina Ann 1 is (I think. Is second Dante mission for sure though) you shuffle those buildings around and it's through a window into a small room with blood orbs and Kalina on the ground. When you have both you can get 2x Kalina Ann's

Learn to Table Hopper. Exceed makes every attack so fucking fast that you basically have no animation lock so everything can be dodged. Personally I find that between the two different snatches and having triple jump + glide there's really no need for air trick.

Fair warning, 2 truly is almost entirely pointless to play. A lot of people will argue "Oh, 1 hasn't aged well" "4 is an incomplete game" and those people you should probably ignore if you want to tread through the series, but the best 2 gets is barely a texture mentioning it and the entire game is a glitchy mess that's not hard in any way, just time consuming and mind numbing.

Sparda is slightly longer, and its scythe blade extending when Dante does a few moves like Prop Shredder gives it even more reach.

Use DSD only for agility and with Trickster. Have Cerebus be the weapon that switches in after it. Whenever you dash over and open up a combo with DSD switch to cerebus and go nuts with its SM moves. Particularly the R1 back B move. It's insane. Also use Faust a lot for big groups.

If fighting those big spinning blade demons then whip out cavalerie and use its R1 forward B. You can literally just run into them as they spin and knock them out of it.

Rebellion/Sparda is pretty useful for parrying with pop shredder.

Anyone got a good controller scheme set up to charge shots with Nero and use the ghost punch? Using a bone.

I think you’re right, at this point, they have to ease people into Dante, so they let you play as Nero for a while, get used to lock on, directional attacks, dodging etc, then they unleash Dante halfway through the game and let you go crazy. Dante’s moveset in 5 is insane, completely alien, for most people that haven’t played 4.

It's likely that his fight with Dante was a suicide mission. At least that's what I gathered from Dante's off-hand comment about V's summons challenging Dante to "atone" for something.

If Dante won "Vergil's nightmare's" would finally be over, his humanity as V would have taught him how horrible of a crime his demon half committed, something that he felt like he could never atone for. But he's too proud to have it any other way than a deathmatch with his brother. If he had beaten Dante it would have proven that his philosphy of might controlling everything was, in fact, correct. He probably would have still closed the hell portals and stopped the demon invasion but who knows after that. Maybe he'd work on revenge killing Mundus.

They all do the exact same damage per swing. Sparda is slightly longer. DSD still has highest damage output though because of the summon swords in SM.

I might actually be one of the only people who genuinely thinks V is the most fun character, and has dedicated a lot of time so far to trying out cool shit and tech with him.

Playing V the ideal way is actually a game of risk and reward. JCing your cane slaps on an enemy once you've hit a high style rank allows you to stack DT inhumanly fast, so you have to actually get up close and personal while still being super fragile and having your evades mess with your combos because they use youe summons, leading you to also have to focus on crowd control.

It's such a fun and unique playstyle to me and I'm still learning new cool shit he can do. I wish everyone else didn't hate him. He could probably do with nerfs on his style buildup so people actually did have to play stylish with him to get high style rather than spam.

One story DLC will be Lady and Trish clearing out Redgrave after the events of the game. That is the "job" that Morrison sends them on in the secret ending cutscene.

The other DLC story will be Vergil and Dante clearing out the hell side and closing the portals following the end of the game.

Every game I play and taunt it does nothing but waste time and cause my style ranking to go down while giving me a paltry amount of DT I could have got by just attacking my enemy. The new weapons have finally made Dante fun again. Although I mostly stick to Sparda/Rebellion and Balrog because I don't like to over complicate things.

Nero's arms are super fun to use. Once you get comfortable blowing an arm for a stylish group attack things really open up. Especially since you always get a Nico phone before a boss so you can refill on arms.

V is fine, but clunky. The fact that his evade options are tied to the summons and cancel out any charge or attack you were doing with them is a bummer. I really like to always be charging with Griffon but then I need to backdash and it kills it. Nightmare is cool too, but too slow to turn around. Feels like I'm just wasting DT

The description for it in the skill list is a little deceptive. Rather than pressing the bringer button after an attack, you pretty much want to press it immediately after you press attack. If you want to be attempting bringer knuckles and exceed at the same time, you have to smoothly hit melee > bringer > exceed in succession. I got melee on square, bringer on triangle and exceed on the default L2. If you watch the controller in that webm you can see me rolling it to get an idea of the timing

dont taunt too much. dantes taunts are very quick and give you a boost to your taunt. Nero's taunts are slower but slowly rises your rank as you taunt around enemies. taunting after every 2nd or 3rd combo is safe. make sure enemies are near you and are alive. air taunting is op though, even on nero.

That's actually not a bad idea user. I've been working on putting out a video demonstrating the effectiveness of playing aggressive with your cane vs. reading the book for DT generation, but now I might just save it and expand it into a full fledged combo video.

You don't need to max act, even regular exceeds are fine. The only reason to max act is to get a level three move off because those shit style and damage. Just pressing exceed whenever you hit with the attack will give you a charge 80% of the time.

Trick is to use ifrit and go for full charge punches. Then back to lighting up the symbols and repeat. When he’s at 25% health, get absorbed and beat Nelo. When phase 2 happens just use air raid and hope for the best

I can never figure out how taunts work. I never have ever since 1. They don't do anything. It doesn't matter what style ranking I do. Taunts do absolutely nothing except increase DT.

High damage which helps a lot against shit like Judeccas in DMD, great breakage, being able to attack high or low (with launch and bounce properties), can be added into any combo, launches charging bosses away Team Rocket style.
