There were rumors of MS buying Valve a little while ago

EA and Activision both. The only way they could hope to compete with GTA + 2K is with CoD and Madden/FIFA.

Can Sony even afford to buy take-two? It's certainly no EA or Activision but it's a big one

Sony apparently has upwards of $20 billion in cash.

If Sony buys Take Two, Microsoft absolutely has to buy EA simply for Fifa or they'll never sell an Xbox in Europe again.

Talks will break down. Take-Two could and likely should have been bought ages ago by Microsoft when it was worth way less. Even Sony in the PS2 or early PS3 era could have bought them up. Its probably not going to happen for one reason or another. This isn't any different from Microsoft buying EA rumors from two years ago, something that also makes a lot of sense for Microsoft's gaming division.
Microsoft maybe spent 100 million total buying all those studios last year if that, I don't see Sony dropping 10 billion on Take-Two.

Yes, but its a lot of fucking money. They spent 2.2 billion last year on EMI which is a music publisher.

Its already been debunked.

Sony wins again :)

Nintendo has 120 Billion dollars, they should buy Square & Sega

>Anthem + Trending in the URL
nice try EA.

Sony has around 13 billion cash equity, Take-Two is worth around 10 billion annually
it would be a major investment, putting their entire company's worth into one deal
but it would also be one of the few moves that could guarantee major growth for Sony
it would be a major payout for Take-Two shareholders, who have been sitting on stagnating stocks

It's a fruitless endeavor to buy these major companies because they have many many year long contracts. For example, after MW2 dropped, MS set up a contract for 4 years, from black ops to advanced warfare, for early access to DLC. sony set up a similar one, also 4 years, from blops 3 to the one coming out this year that hasn't been officially revealed yet. That seems like a pretty long commitment. But BOTH companies set up separate contracts ensuring the titles release on their systems for TWO DECADES. 2008 to 2028. There's no way they could pull an exclusivity thing if they were to somehow buy actiblizz. I can't speak with certainty for other companies but I highly doubt there's not some sort of similar exclusivity prevention contract in place for rockstar and their games, and ubisoft and theirs, EA, etc etc. Small bumps up for games over the competitor are fine so long as they don't break the contract in a major way. We already had that fight in 2011 anyway with Mortal Kombat 9 and the whole kratos debacle. where MS threatened to never allow a netherrealm game on their systems if they ever did exclusive content like that again.
And here we are, totally script flipped like 8 years later.

Anyway, no, this isn't happening. If it did, it'd be a big fat zilch in terms of hilarity, either.

If you want a real world, currently happening example, look at minecraft. These companies aren't retarded and set up failsafes in case of situations like this. Even if sony bought take two, the next GTA would 100% be on xbone anyway.

for what? Square's obsession with pushing tech is the polar opposite of Nintendo design philosophy and Sega hasn't had a hit game since NFL2k

those would be moot points T2 would only be making PlayStation games, everything but NBA and WWE 2k would just be canceled, they would only have to support games already released

It's funny how M$ just doesn't buy EVERYONE and call it a day

No, because these contracts are set up explicitly to protect the console manufacturer in the case of buyouts. They flat out threaten the publisher to not allow any games on their system if they can't have all of them, in some semblance of equal form to the opponent. Again, mortal kombat 9. It was an enormous shitstorm, I don't know why everyone forgot about it. It revealed tons of bullshit that went on behind closed doors, what threats the companies made when games weren't catered to their exact specifications, or when their opponents got benefits.

Nintendo would fix them obviously

>he doesnt know

>Xniggies spent a year swaggering over flaky rumors
>A flaky rumor that doesn't go their way shakes them to the core

Delicious

>gamespot
>article writter is litterally a toddler

If is true then the article cant gtfo.

Got a link detailing the MK9 drama? Funny considering that platforms often used to have their own exclusive content ala Soul Calibur 2

>Sony buys Take Two

Hello censored GTA if that happens.

>it would be a major payout for Take-Two shareholders, who have been sitting on stagnating stocks
Yeah, that's a fucking huge increase. I'm sure the shareholders loved this.

so basically sony would be giving up over half their money to do this.... honestly, sounds like something arrogant sony would do.

This isnt even a rumor, some jackass made an article around a misquote, and everyone jumped on it.

The founder and CEO of T2 owns the majority of the shares I think, so they'd have to deal with him to get control of the company. Doubt the other shareholders would get jack shit.

>sounds like something arrogant sony would do.
but that's the exact opposite
when people say arrogant Sony, they are referring to a time when Sony thought they didn't have to be competitive to sell
buying Take-Two would be a very competitive move, there's no other way to frame a deal like that
stop being retarded

So no worse than the usual Xnigger fanfic on Reddit they jerk off over.

for some reason people don't understand that buying companies that produce mostly multiplats is generally retarded unless they are considerably undervalued, partially because by buying them you are limiting their profits and thus hurting a new addition to your company by immediately lowering their value. This is partially why minecraft is not exclusive despite being bought by microsoft

it's exactly how the rumors started over Disney buying Fox

fuck yes

There may be some element of truth to it that's been blown way out of proportion; the "Microsoft is attempting to buy EA" stories that were going the rounds last year were actually Microsoft trying to buy Bioware off EA, but talks fell apart because they wouldn't meet their valuation of them.

definition of seething.

all dem ports

>Yea Forums pretends like ports don't count, despite there being endless threads up about Halo on pc

Back to /r/Gaming, friend.

>buy everyone
>get done for antitrust again

So what is Sony going to get I'd they buy them out? All of Rockstar's IPs and...?

What

They stopped doing that after this happened.

>No FIFA

Outrageous

2K Sports
NBA 2K is consistently one of the best sellers every year
up there with FIFA and Madden
I'm sure WWE does good, cause they keep making them as well
Civilization and X-Com, Bioshock
I don't think they own the Borderlands IP, only publish it

OH NONONONO!

honestly, Sony is one of the only publishers that would work best for what Ken wants to make
they've been on point in supporting single player games and being hands off with what the devs are doing

>we can't confirm or deny this rumor
not really a debunking then, is it?

Nintendo

>Microsoft ends up buying inXile and Obsidian instead
>Bioware goes on to release their second flop in a row
Lucky break for MS.

Levine wants to make mid budget games with a small team. The people in charge at Sony are only interested in AAA horseshit, they jettisoned every team they had that made niche games except for the Gran Turismo guys and maybe SCEJ (but I expect them to be shitcanned in a year or two).

>they jettisoned every team they had that made niche games

Japan Studio won't be closed because they're literally Yoshida's old baby from the SCE days when the department was a spinoff from Sony Music; they're effectively the vanity game studio at WWS. They've been funnelling money into Media Molecule's Dreams project for 6 years now. They set up PixelOpus several years ago who are literally just an airy fairy artwank studio.

Sony should focus more on building internal studios instead of buying publishers
