>wake up after getting kidnapped with ugly long hair >go to my bed to rest before riding into town >get to rhodes and everything is closed until I do some bullshit mission >finish it off and try to get to the barber but dutch spergs out about some missing brat so I have to go rescue him >don't even find him but now we have to move our whole camp again >finally get the camp moved and I want to go for my haircut >oh no we need to go search for information about this boy in st.denis
I thought the mission where you assault the plantation was pretty sick
Chase Brown
I'm not 100 percent on it but I think that's the case. I could check when I start playing the game after my work shift but obviously this thread is a goner by then.
Anyway, Valentine has a barber shop in the saloon, could always use that >inb4 too far away Just use the train it takes like 15-30 seconds.
it was just like every other mission though. which isn't a big deal I guess, it's like my japanese role playing games with repetitive turn based battles. except those games are carried by the weight of characters and the characters in this game are terribly uninteresting
Charles Bailey
>except those games are carried by the weight of characters
>this game sucks because I can't change the length of my character's hair for a brief period of time fuck off
Alexander Nelson
I murdered the whole crowd just to try and save her and it wouldn't let me. my only option was to pull the lever or leave. anyone know if you can come back after losing the police and rescue her or shoot her off the rope? would be interesting to know. my only complaint in this game is little stuff like this, or what op mentioned. it's just so nearly close to being a life sim.
>anyone know if you can come back after losing the police and shoot the rope?
Yeah, I managed to kill the cops on the gallows, shake off the cops, pay my bounty at the Valentine post office and then come back and chill on the gallows without a wanted level but I only managed to do it once.
She will plead you to save her and also spooks if you go near the lever. I used the opportunity to jerk off and nut at the same moment I pulled the lever.
There is a mission in chapter 2 where you rob a train with John. You go through and beat people while they hand over money. But if you target them and rob them you lose honor. But killing 20 lawmen a minute later causes no honor loss.
Jaxon Torres
But there is a baber in St. Denis. You could get your haircut 2 blocks from where you talk to Dutch to begin the next mission.
Easton King
The 20 lawmen thing is excusable because otherwise you'd always have negative honor from missions.
I just wish negative honor would have actual benefits too. High honor unlocks discounts, additional outfits and the like but neg honor improves your loot at that's pretty much it? Wow.
> interesting JRPG characters > awkward teenage boy, unaware of his true potential until the lives of his friends are on the line > over-privileged brat girl with a very dark secret that she can only reveal to the person she trusts the most > clumsy anthropomorphic best friend type that provides comic relief throughout the entire game up until his tragic death that changes the tone for the rest of the game > a Bara-like father figure whose loss of his family is slowly emotionaly healed through the bond he forms with this ragtag group and their pursuit of their common enemy

Carson Bell
It just makes it extra-pitiable that your cowboy game can't even come up with more interesting stuff than that, I'm not sure what you were seeking to prove.
Both JRPG characters as well as more down to earth western characters both have their place, just a matter of choosing the tonally correct application for them.
what are you even talking about m8 by what you just said you should have a lot of opportunities to get a haircut, and if you don't even know who jack is by that time you clearly don't give two fucks about the story, which is a huge part of the game, why are you even playing it? I'm not trying to start shit honestly, I actually love the game so much I had hundreds of hours of fun without touching the main story missions, but if you aren't interested in it and it's characters AT ALL then maybe you should just simply drop the game, it's clearly not for you
The base mission structure is relatively samey throughout the game, but that isn't what you were talking about. You were talking about the story. Mission variety could definitely be improved on quite a bit, but it doesn't take away from the game at all. It's more than good enough.
Andrew Adams
Trails in the Sky is just like red dead with the difference being it isn't trash. Has the newspapers of your exploits every so often, you move around from town to town in a small area solving problems.
Different guy but my main issue with the missions besides not having creative freedom in many of them was that there could've been more substantial elements to things like riding wagons or horses.
Like for instance you could have sequences where you ride a wagon under a time limit or have volatile cargo in hard terrain, could have missions where you have to reach targets that are in different locations around the map and stop them before they reach certain spots. Maybe make usage of the witness intimidation techniques and give an objective to stop witnesses from talking without killing them but how you do it is up to you etc.
I liked the missions where you get to control the RC boat and the one where you fly the balloon, they both had fully fleshed out mechanics and were gimmick sections that didn't feel like just QTEs.
More missions like that and missions where you have a goal but can affect how you achieve it like Oil wagon stealing mission and the document stealing mission.
Negative only sends more bounty hunters on your ass and causes cities to sperg out. That's why I do most of my fucked up shit away from towns. I'll randomly rob or kill someone for the fuck of it. I wish it had a perk like stealing more money when you rob or getting more items since you dont give a fuck. Being bad in this game is a fucking hassle
Elijah Butler
I'm getting so tired of dutch's shit. Hes literally the boss that keep telling you the job will get better when hes doing none of the work and doesnt understand it was fucked from the jump.
Jace Ortiz
Jesus that beard growth
Eli Cook
should have had a mission where you encounter a guy with a delorean
Nathan Rodriguez
dutch is the only good character though
Aaron Johnson
Actually there is increased loot when you go negative honor. I don't have the image but there was a screencap of the guide that showed benefits and maluses for the neg / poz honor thresholds. I just wish you could get something like a bad boy set if you go deep in the negatives etc.
Yeah, I agree. It would have definitely been a good addition. But even with the relatively boring mission structure, I still felt really engaged and invested throughout the entire game. I guess that's because the main draw of the game is really the story, atmosphere, and characters, so sub par mission design doesn't really harm it all that much IMO
Leo Harris
great one
Joseph Ward
He is but fuck me he gets irrational sometimes, hell theres dialogue where uncle checks his ass for doing nothing but talking all the fucking time.
Hunter Phillips
You do encounter a time traveler in a side mission. Dude is like from the 1930's and Arthur doesnt understand his lingo.
Landon Johnson
I'll keep that in my mind cause I always have my honor in the middle in case I need to switch back and forth for whatever reason.
William Rodriguez
Yeah I mean I love the game as it is, just sort of bothered when I see examples of good mission design in this game but they don't make full use of their potential. I get the idea that it's cool to have jist atmosphere building missions but the pacing feels a bit off sometimes.
I'm jealous. My beard growth glitched and kept the mustache and chin at 8 while only the chops grew to 10. I gave up and just cut it off because I was out of things to do as Arthur
Losing honor for committing crimes was pretty bullshit. Arthur is a fucking outlaw. This makes me wonder how he could ever be considered honorable at all seeing as his whole life is beating and robbing people. It should've given you honor loss if you are cruel for no reason, like killing the innocents you rob. In that one mission where you collect the debt from that polish guy by raiding his house I punched him out at the end because he called me a savage and got an honor dock. That was fine and made sense.
Brandon Gutierrez
Gotta use more hair growth tonics
Christian Smith
Doesn't seem to make a difference if one of the sections gets to level 10 before the others do, especially considering it takes like 12 hours of real time to go from 9 to 10 with three tonics taken that's a lot of time to see if it will even grow past 7/8 or whatever it's stuck on.
Levi Scott
>mission ended >got on my horse to ride away >hear Cruel World starting in the background >nice.jpg >decide to get off my horse real quick for a shave before riding off >song stops >doesn't start again when I get back on my horse >mfw
Is there really no way to take your saddle off and change horses before that mission with Hosea where you hunt the bear? I'm trying to roleplay hard and get a lot done before I start doing the missions at Horseshoe Overlook but riding this piece of shit Tennessee Walker is a horrible experience after being used to the Arabian
Parker Rogers
They need to balance the fact that gaining honor is too easy as it is. Or like discussed before, give more reason to go negative honor.
When I finished the game I got the bug that causes your weapons to disappear. They've patched the bug out since, but is there a way to get them back or is it already too late for me?
Asher Bennett
Arabian doesn't spawn anyway until you finish that mission so you might as well do it seeing as it's one of the first missions open to you as soon as Chapter 2 starts anyway.
I don't necessarily need the Arabian, just something half-decent.
Mason Campbell
Just do the mission out of the way. Though I'm a bit annoyed that it takes until chapter 4 to unlock most of the relevant gameplay mechanics for enjoyable freeroam and after that Arthur's visibly sick
I love the game but Rockstar's general philosophy seems to be shit. Tying in incredibly basic gameplay mechanics to missions is irritating and feels convoluted. Just give me a tip screen explaining the basics of a stable, I don't need to do a whole mission that revolves around teaching me how to use one, cook food, and hunt a legendary animal.
>Rockstar dedicates early missions to incredibly basic gameplay mechanics that you can either find out on your own or can be explained with a text blurb in the corner of the screen >Actual important shit is either never explained or shoved into the corner for less than three seconds while you're busy with something else
Jack Moore
Clemens point is neat. It's also the point in the story when Sadie puts on those tight leather pants that accentuate her well formed bottom. Ultra cozy camp, the biggest downside imho is that the entire time you're there the Rhodes gun ban is in effect. Which isn't really the camp's fault but the Rhodes gun ban because you're deputized covers a wide area and is annoying without introducing any new meaningful new gameplay. You can't arrest people outside of the main story missions / bounty hunting.
lame thing is you cant even get john to look like this when youre playing him because his hair is just arthur's but black that and that bug(?) that made him look anorexic in the prologue wasnt great either
