Even the cutscenes in between, (brazen rip-off of BSG it maybe), they completely nailed the aesthetic and atmosphere of Reach and Halo at that time. It's so nice going through those games, and feeling Reach really deliver on the gravitas that underpins the hopefulness of H1-3. They're perfect foils, and the end just kicks the door open to replay the trilogy, over and over.

Nah dude it's in the Forunner books, silentium requiem and whatever the other one was called. Master Chief was programmed by the librarian to pretty much be a "clone" of the didact. Which was commonpractice in thier culture once you reached adulthood, they would pretty much laminate your "mentor's" DNA over your own to the point that you actually start thinking differently (not to mention growing to their size and their predisposed class in society (warrior, engineer, scientists))

I’m aware of that largely, but given how much of a misfire the diadact was in halo 4, which copy of him it was, and the fact that 343 made the expanded universe far more required reading as opposed to bungie era books which were more a goal of enriching the main narrative rather than being highly important aspects of the main narrative, I’m not a fan of chief being a didact relative.
You could argue that his ‘luck’ was lazy writing, and this seems to be an effort to explain it, but I enjoyed the mystified aspect of chief’s luck.
Plus at one point his luck being mendicant bias helping him survive Halo 3.

Loved the military feel of Reach, and felt it was a great to see what a full on covenant invasion was. So many times big battles or invasions happen in the backstory or offscreen while you're fucking around behind the lines. Fighting through New Alexandria after blowing up the super carrier was hands down my favorite Halo level. I also like ODST for the same reason. More games need to focus on larger scale conflicts where you're just a unit or guy doing objectives. I felt that the part in Reach where youre trying to blow the giant aa guns so the frigates can destroy the cloaking tower was great because you could see the much much larger war going on across the canyon and it felt like it was a real battle, same feeling in the sword base mission with the huge air battle going on.

I would kill for a space based Halo game about the navy, maybe an RTS like Battlefleet gothic I suppose. Id also kill for a marine/trooper based halo that works like if Rainbow Six Vegas 2 had a baby with Full Spectrum Warrior. Lead your marine/army fireteam through the campaign, take part of large battles set in the war, where Elites are extremely dangerous and take concentrated firepower to kill and a pair of hunters either requires a rocket or some extreme planing. But seeing this, my character from Halo 4. Fuck me, what a disgrace. Hated everything from that game. I loved it at first, but the more I played the more I hated it. Espically how "anyone can be a Spartan!1!" They all wear rainbow colours, Black, Orange, White, Purple, Pink. I disliked how Reach did this with Noble Squad, but I could tolerate it, just REALLY wish there's a future mod to actually make them all the proper colour.
