From what I can gather it has a story and very few side quests, apparently the trade off are the side quests are supposed to be big. I've seen the towns and a city on a stream they were doing, they seem ok. The animation seems pretty janky though. The VA's do that thing where they'll voice part of a line but not all of it, I think.

Kind of? Not quite at the same time. It's got survival mechanics, food, sickness yadda yadda. But it has quests, non hostile NPCs and towns and shit which I don't think most survival meme games have. I assume you mean like Ark and the Forest and shit.

Instead of dying you just pass out so youre uncertain about what happens to you e.g. you die in a dungeon you could get imprisoned with no clothes and need to escape / you die in the wilderness you could get rescued by some wanderer or you could get enslaved by some pirates

I think it's ok but they also talk about time limits on quests and shit so it makes me wonder if there is actually a real way to lose the game. I assume not.

Waiting to see what happens once it's out and people have played it. The videos I've seen make it look cool, but that's the whole point of them, so that's not worth a whole lot. If it has a good amount of content, then I'll probably pick it up, but a lot of similar games (open world, survival, crafting, of which 95% or more are shit) don't really have any. I'm looking forward to Outward but not getting my hopes up.

My only fear is the map could be empty. They said that each of the 4 maps will be 2x2 km square so in total that’s half of the size of skyrim. Hopefully there’s enough content in the map.
