To be fair I really do like DV as I feel they have the best dynamic in the series and it is the most fun to explore. That said so many of those fics are so, so bad. It seems the writer of DMC is a fan of externalizing a main characters internal struggles threw a separate character since I find how he tells the story of Vergils regret externalized threw V similar to Lady externalizing Dante's struggles in DMC3.

I think its handled better in DMC3 since V is literally just Vergil human thoughts but its a clever way to add to Vergil as a character without having to write him incredibly OOC

Once again I feel like Nero's development is rushed or incomplete again similar to 4, they just won't give him enough time to brood about his thoughts

The timing is so fucked on most of their moves. It isn't about self hate or anything. Self insert or ooc fics are usually just pure trash. It usually indicates poor writing and not enough skill to pull off two characters interacting. They leave a poor taste in your mouth when you read them because they are trash fics. Compare that to good character ship smut and you will never want to go back.

Yeah, the series is built on multiple playthroughs. Usually you should have at finished hard mode to even unlock DMD. In this game you have to pay Normal and Hard first, in theory.
But you can skip that if you do really well in the first mission and start the next difficulty early.

I doubt the guy did a completely blind run of DMD, but if he did that's pretty cool.

I think Blitzes were better, to be honest. Every character had at least one way to break their shields down quickly, and after it was down, you could just beat them down. Furies teleport away after a few hits no matter what, and to even get though couple hits, you need to parry them. They are anti-fun. Judeccas are garbage too.

V's gameplay annoys me because you'd want to stay CLOSE to the enemy as much as possible so the familiars won't get upset and move back to V's location but if you dodge around while attacking it breaks the flow because dodging either to the side or back makes one of your dudes spawn on V meaning their attacks have now completely stopped, even worse if you were charging something. And not dodging is not really an option so you have to drop that round robin you were just charging etc.

I mean the most effective method I've found is just jumping around like a doofus (but NOT double jumping) after letting go of the lock-on button which looks and feels silly but lets you keep attacking while getting out of harm's way

The only ones I actually dislike are Furies.
Aerial enemies are a pain as V, too, but that's character specific.

I didn't get that from DMC4, in DMC4 he seemed concerned with whether or not he was human at all but we only really got that a few times, his obsession with power was in 1 scene and its a good scene but it is implied its the arm or Yamato's doing not his own character.

5 gives him a few lines referencing his helplessness and weakness and how he needs power to protect the people he cares about, it just takes a back seat all of like 2 times and doesn't feel like a consistent problem for Nero

How the fuck do I figure out when to use buster against bosses? I was doing Mr. Tummy Teeth and found absolutely no place to use it. I tried against multiple attacks and always just got my shit slapped and I also tried when he staggers after I hit him enough which really looks like a spot to use it but it would just bounce off.

I wish there was a list of buster opportunities. I wished the same for DMC4 really after figuring out I had missed a lot of them in that game as well (I didn't know for the longest time about counter ones).

Y'know how you get connected to someone even though you never get to see V in cutscene? I'm positive that Gilgamesh will only fall through the ground and allow you to Buster him if the V data has defeated the Gilgamesh legs that appears in his mission, usually you can kill him fast enough to just get the buster after the cutscene but on my DMD playthrough the fight took long enough for him to become busterable a second time and the ghost data at the time was mine and i did kill the legs in that mission

I don't think I got him to fall on his knees. I guess I sucked too much. Playing on Son of Sparda now so the bosses are slightly tougher. But other than the obvious "boss is dazed" states there are moments where you can counter-buster an attack but the only one I found in DMC5 yet is when airplane-Vergil flies at you. Every common enemy (except sargasso and a few from 2) has their own introductory cutscene. This is a thing that has been there from the start, in every game. 5 and DmC are the only ones on which the screen gets on a still pose and their names appears, which I assume is what you're talking about. I think this is cool tho, because not many people ever bother to check the enemy files and the actual names of the enemies often go unnoticed. Otherwise the number of players talking about "how do you defeat the shadowy fucks/fly things/bug ghosts/electric blade" would skyrocket.

5 as a whole seems like it made an effort to bring back things from EVERY game of the franchise, reboot or not. We have nobodies from 1, renamed and enhanced flambats from 2, cerberus and artemis nods from 3, kyrie/credo nods from 4, doppelganger vergil and many dialogue references from DmC, etc.

Most of the time those other fics just aren't well written from a technical standpoint either.

Riot is the only one I have trouble with generally (that's the spinny wheel guy, right?). Is there a good way to break them out of their wheel mode or do I just gotta fumble around like an idiot until they come out of it, hitting them while they are in it seems to end poorly for me and shooting is like "wow it's fucking nothing".

Normally I hate those types of bosses but bullying Nidhogg to death with my summons made the fight for me.

There's two different wheel modes. When they're just spinning, there's not much you can do. After they hop and glow brighter, they're charging at you. At that point, gunfire slows down their spin. After they're slowed, you can move in for melee and you'll knock them out of the spin. The problem is when they appear in a large group. I can't cope with a screen full of them.
