And before you start saying "those are sims" you can edit the options to the point where they are arcadey as heck.

Early jets. The speed of a jet but combat of a prop plane, instead of lock-on missiles

I'm 12 and what is that plane on the top?

Super Tucano

Super Tucano.

My problem with early jets is that I think they're ugly.

Super Tucano

super tucano

prop planes are cool and you can easily distinguish them - BF-109/Spitfire/P-51/A6M2, all look different
all jets look the same to me

I like them, there's this certain ruggedness and brutality to them

ur ugleh

as much as i like ace combat nothing beats the feeling you get from slicing another plane's wings off in a prop plane or getting an engine kill instead of just blowing them up outright

Thanks. Just googled it. Wtf Brazil?

Super Tucano

Depends on how unrealistic it is. For unrealistic fun, I prefer new jets in Ace Combat but for more realistic dogfights, I prefer prop planes.

Props
There's a reason the only fun jet games are arcadey. Reaalistic jets are a fucking snoozefest and you're dealing more with the plane's systems than with combat.

i enjoyed warthunder until everyone had 20mm guns around tier 3-4

I enjoyed War Thunder until I started only doing sim battles and noticed how long it will take me to grind things out so I switched to modded Il-2 1946

Even 3 months ago, the super tucano was one of two finalists for the united states air force light attack plane.

prop planes have their uses.

What's the other one?

the textron at-6 wolverine, pic related

recently the air force reopened the competition to all manufacturers, not just these two

Attached: MissionReady_IrregularWarfare.jpg (700x417, 95K)

Attached: hypno109.gif (300x169, 1.08M)

Interesting, is it a requirement for them to be taildraggers? What advantages would a prop have over jet apart from maybe lower operational speed?

Neither of them are taildraggers.

They are great at training and light CAS.

you have to consider the CONOPs the air force designed the competition for

>light ground attack in low threat environment
>operate in austere conditions/rugged runways
>easy to train on
>cheap to buy

the whole idea behind this competition was greater interoperability with nations who don't have the resources to buy F-18s/train F-18 pilots. the threat environment is pretty obviously designed around the low intensity conflicts we see in the middle east right now

109's are such cute planes.

Attached: shot_2019.03.12_08.03.16.jpg (1920x1080, 666K)

I see, thanks, guys.
How so? I was under the impression that any plane that is not powered from the tail is a taildragger

a taildragger is a plane with two forward wheels and one aft wheel (like the 109 )

both the wolverine and the super tucano have tricycle gears

Attached: 694940094001_5561461555001_5561451488001-vs.jpg?ve=1&tl=1.jpg (931x524, 83K)

the most fun ive ever had in a plane was the f35 in bf3

Ah, fair enough, thank

Taildragger refers to the landing gear, not the way of propulsion.
A taildragger has the main landing gear in the front and a rear wheel for steering, like most WWII fighters.

What are some good VR WW2 plane sims? Or maybe not even sims, just some air combat games with WW2 planes for VR.

>I was under the impression that any plane that is not powered from the tail is a taildragger.
Taildraggers are what you call planes that have the third wheel of their landing gear in the rear, like the 109 here.
The Tucano has a tricycle landing gear, where the third wheel is in the front, just behind the prop.

Prop planes can actually dog fight.
Jets are just point and shoot homing missile.

props

Thanks. I might look into Warthunder since it's free if I ever get myself to take the headset out of the box again.

Props/1st gen jets. Lower speed and lower-tech arsenal means engagements are more intimate. AC is great but I think it would be even better for a similar styled game to do something with ww2 era.

Thanks. Cobras are sexy as fuck but wouldn't the engine being behind the cockpit cause problems during dogfights? It seems to be easily shot out

Jets are sexier.

>wouldn't the engine being behind the cockpit cause problems during dogfights? It seems to be easily shot out
Yeah, certainly easier to hit there. But they also put armour in the rear of the aircraft for that reason.
Putting the engine behind the pilot also caused problems with the center of gravity when the front-mounted 37mm gun started running dry.

Attached: 1391290822941.jpg (1456x582, 738K)

>The cockpits look like shit
Most of the more recent ones look good at east.

Still don't hold a candle to IL-2

Plus IL-2 has a bunch of neat features like gunsights that actually work and flight models that aren't complete shit

It also made maintenance just that bit more difficult, and Bell lied about the performance to the RAF who cancelled their order after receiving the 2nd plane

Lmfao@this prop-nigger bullying turd worlder kindergartners
Man up and buy a jet DCS module

I'm flying the DCS F-14 right now...

Look at where western militaries are currently engaged. All we're doing is COIN. We're using stupidly expensive and complicated planes to bomb guys in rugs with cheap knockoff AKs.
A propeller plane costs a fraction of what a jet costs, in construction, maintenance and operation. On top of that, it's easier and cheaper to train pilots for it.
In an engagement, propeller planes generally turn tighter, thus it could spend more time doing its actual job. The slower speed would also allow it to spend more time on target. Ground troops still vastly prefer the slow and old A-10 over any other CAS option simply because the A-10 can conduct attack runs far more frequently than an F-18 or something.
Propeller planes are also generally less susceptible for poor conditions (weather, bad runways etc.) and less demanding in general.
Keep in mind all these advantages generally only apply to low-intensity warzones where enemy forces don't have any better AA than 60 years old Russian guns.

radial or inline?

I'd love a Ace Combat but with prop planes.
Like, exploring the old wars of Strangerealm.

I could never get into DCS because of the scripted missions. All I ever wanted was a dynamic campaign like in BMS or Il-2 1946
Are the campaign packs worth buying? How much dynamic campaign content is there for the game?

Twenty-five rounds from his machine gun

It's not a Dynamic Campaign as such, more a career mode that follows the war, you can get Pat Wilson's Campaign generator too which IS a dynamic campaign

DCS WW2 is a fucking joke, DCS for jets and helos yes but I can't in good conscience recommend it for WW2 which is what he specified

Alright, I guess I'll bite. Is the campaign gen some sort of a free download mod or paid content?

>The Hun triplane was practically underneath our formation now, and so down we dived at a colossal speed. I went to the right, Rhys-Davids to the left, and we got behind the triplane together. The German pilot saw us and turned in a most disconcertingly quick manner, not a climbing nor Immelmann turn, but a sort of flat half spin. By now the German triplane was in the middle of our formation, and its handling was wonderful to behold. The pilot seemed to be firing at all of us simultaneously, and although I got behind him a second time, I could hardly stay there for a second. His movements were so quick and uncertain that none of us could hold him in sight at all for any decisive time.

Attached: Werner Voss in a Fokker Dr1.webm (640x324, 2.48M)

Free mod, the paid campaigns are scripted ones to tell a story

Cool, thanks a lot. Guess I'll pick it up then.

They need alternate reality combos. Real life is old and boring, I wanna fly a prop plane with rocket boosters on it.

cute

>I wanna fly a prop plane with rocket boosters on it

Those god damn germans, they got everything.

Jet combat is 200iq, because it includes everything you need to know about prop planes for when you run out of missiles + jet combat

Jet BFM is just as involved as props, you just have to be smarter about it.

Very nice, which dlc packs would you recommend for somebody just picking it up?

BoS has the best base to build on, then Kuban for 1943/44 eastern front and Bodenplatte for 1944/45 western front. Moscow is the least popular because it's early war Eastern Front but some of the planes in there are really fun

Ground attack; birds are too vulnerable and jets are too fast.

Archimedean Dynasty/Aquanox on PC
Critical Depth on PS1

>And before you start saying "those are sims" you can edit the options to the point where they are arcadey as heck.
Are there any jet games like that? I can only play Ace Combat so many times.

Thanks, senpai

It's really up to you what you pick unless you really want to get into MP, then pick up BoS as most mission makers use it as the base. All of the battles have their own quirky planes like BoM and it's I-16 or the BoK's jack of all trades Fw190 A-5. If your thinking of getting head first into MP then post your discord tag so you could have a group of lads to fly with :^)

I'm not much of a multiplayer sim guy, I'm afraid, I'd rather play comfy singleplayer. Thanks for the offer though

F-16s are so sexy that they actually have sex.

Just like these combat sims user.

Don't worry, The built in "career" mode is very nice but if you feel like having more of a "true" campaign mode then install PWCG which is a soon to be a 1st party mod. Note: although for MP all maps are free to play the normal career mode requires you own the battle to play in said battle (PWCG only cares about which planes you own so you can fly Lagg-3s in Moscow or Yak-1s in Kuban)

The combat scenes in Macross Zero gave me a massive boner.

Prop planes are more fun in sims/'hardcore', jets are more fun in arcade games.

BOTH

Propfag cope in this thread

So what exactly is the difference between a propeller and a jet engine other than the jet has the spinny part in a tube

The coolest plane aesthetic is futuristic WWII.

Attached: shipanim.gif (224x227, 14K)

Yeah, I need to setup my controls. That normally takes a few days to get sorted.

It's how they fly. Props chop up the air into little chunks so the plane can climb on top of it, while jets funnel the air through the tubes so the plane rides air currents like a zipline.

I see, thanks a lot

DCS is free and comes with a T51 trainer

I have a Warthog and the default binds for it are pretty good, it's just a different beast entirely for pattern work and the like

Jets, but only if it's like Ace Combat. I don't care for realistic sims.

DCS runs like shit in VR, and the free planes are an unarmed Mustang or a FAT Su-25

how can anyone enjoy this garbage?

Is that the Doolittle raid?

Pretty sure the post you responded to mentioned the T in 51.

Also DCS is literally the most realistic combat sim you can get, so fuck off.

Jet is not even about the spinny part.
It's about intake being larger than exhaust. Fans are one of the ways of achieving that.
Squids are jets too, but they don't have propellers.

JUNKERS JUMO OH OH FOUR

But it's fucking shit for WW2

Jets push by burning fuel. Hot air expands, and pushes the plane forward. Propellers push like a fan. The blades are tilted so as it pushes the air out of the way, more goes backwards than forwards.

>>no skill-based combat, juetst constant braindead lock on missiles

This is how I can tell you have no idea what you're talking about

Yes

What are some good WWI aviation games?
I already know of Rise of Flight and Wings Over Flanders Fields.

I love the look of WWI-era planes. Beautiful machines, but dangerous.

Attached: 86-12094h.jpg (3000x2351, 2.76M)

IL-2 has WWI now.

>planelets
>any year

Attached: 1548551746713.jpg (1809x1581, 1.16M)

Rise of Flight, WoFF and now Flying Circus are literally the only ones, FC is just a re-make of RoF on the new IL-2 engine

War Thunder early tiers are WW1 and interwar biplanes. It only lacks early WW1.
Considering all of them are unlocked pretty much from the start, it avoids the grind which is the shittiest part of War Thunder.

Well, there are props in JA and Infinity, but both are spinoffs.

Only one of those planes won WW2

War Thunder doesn't have any WWI planes. The earliest you get is early 30s.

>War Thunder early tiers are WW1
There's not a single WW1 plane in War Thunder

Last I played there weren't any WWI planes in WT, it was all interwar stuff.
Did they actually add WWI stuff in the last 2 years or so? I thought they're busy shitting out jets, helicopters, ATGMs and radar.

xbox 360

Attached: ipad1 311.jpg (2592x1936, 1.53M)

You're right, it's not a WW2 sim, no one ever said it was. However flying the prop planes in DCS is infinitely more satisfying than in any another game and it's the only one that models them properly. Once you've flown the Spit or FW190 in DCS and have gone back to IL-2, IL-2 feels like the utter shit game it is and is no longer enjoyable.

Niggerfield1
No, really, the kucks at Dice actually made the dogfighting pretty competent and varied with blimps, attack craft, gunner positions, plane weapon variety

Well i was enjoying it until they showed the pilots, into the trash it goes

IL-2 is more enjoyable than DCS because there's more to do in WW2 planes than fly around an empty map

Damn, that sucks. You'd think there would be more of a market for arcadey WWI flight action thanks to the popularity of the Red Baron and the like.
There was that one turn-based game by Sid Meier, but it was pretty mediocre and basically a port of a mobile game.

Attached: Sopwith-Camel-1200x804.jpg (1200x804, 199K)

>DCS is better than IL-2 at WW2 only when you can fly warplanes in a scenario with no war.

Don't get me wrong, DCS is fantastic for jets and helos, and I'm sure the WW2 planes fly beautifully, but DCS has nothing in the way of content for WW2 planes, and literally the only reason for a WW2 plane in a combat sim is to fight in it. Otherwise you might as well be playing Xplane.

DCS WW2 is dead online and has no content as standard, otherwise pay up for the Normandy map and assets goy

props honestly
jets are literally the soulless of planes.

>only one of those planes won WW2
None of those planes "won WW2" and only one of those planes was ever truly relevant. I'll give you a hint it isn't the P-51 or F-22

Jets made after the end of the cold war sure

>F-14
>soulless
I will fucking blow your ass off, heathen.

If I'm going to fly a plane in a sim I want it to be the most realistic possible, so yeah, DCS it is. I also stopped playing online games years ago because I'm not a zoomer.

Super Tucano
They are badass

So what do you do? just fly fucking WW2 planes around doing nothing but pattern work?

Also DCS AI isn't a great realistic adversary because in DCS AI don't use the same flight model as players so their planes can do some really crazy shit

I don't see any strategic bombers in that picture.
Go home with your tiny unimportant spec of dust, claiming to be the deciding factor in the sandstorm of war.

>generic f-14 fag
give it up. your super speciul snowflake 'milsim' shit has nothing on a prop plane doing barrel rolls above some barns and you know it.

Attached: download (1).jpg (1280x720, 122K)

Got a chance to ride backseat in the T6 trainer version. Those planes were fun as fuck but shame the limiters were on.

>Makes fun of generic milsim shit to praise generic aerobatics shit

Sid Meier's Ace Patrol
It's turn based but it's WW1 flying and it's great

>I know absolutely fuck all about air combat
Dodging missiles is more like
>be flying close to corner airspeed for maximum turn rate (300-500 knots) to evade
>if radar guided, put terrain between you and the missile and fly perpendicular to its path ("notching") in order to become invisible to the radar, drop chaff to confuse it
>if heat seeking, throttle back to reduced infrared signal, fly perpendicular or toward it in order to give it less view of your exhaust, drop flares while pulling hard to dodge, try and send it into the sun if you're mad enough
>if fired from long range, fly in a pattern ("cranking") that forces the missile to increase its flight time and waste energy, drop down into denser air to further burn off its airspeed
Oh yeah, and heat seekers don't give a lock tone, so you still need your eyes to spot them. You also can't just fire the moment you get a lock, too close or too fire or too far off boresight and it'll just go stupid.

I came here to laugh at you and your retarded opinion

Didn't know planes could clip through rocks without exploding, or that they can drift like a car in mid-air.

Looks fucking stupid, GuP-tier retardation.

No.

WW2 up until Vietam era is probably the most kino era of warfare, the technology was just right, today it's all about blowing up some unseen target from a continent away with a big missile.

My point is 3D CGI has its use. It's good for animating mechanical things with lots details and movements.
Unless you mean the 3D character, I don't defend that. Really wish they would use 2D instead.

DELET THIS

You've confused me with another person, user. I'm arguing against the use of cheap CGI in animation.

Attached: 1545521380240.png (194x218, 35K)

They're both boring as hell to fly in video games.
There's no real sense of speed or anything indicating that you're in a super powerful machine.

In real life jets are loud as fuck constantly jumping around like crazy from the randomness of the air current.

At least in current gen racing games you hear a ton of shit happening outside the car like the dirt and rocks hitting against the the frame of the car and they generate all the bumps and head wobbles that would happen in real life. In flying games the animation for the planes are just following a straight line.

If you want to have fun, Helicopters are a much better choice in video games.

Attached: th (1).jpg (474x266, 31K)

Then don't make posts that look like the largest falseflags known to man with shit like =

Funny thing is that was literally a typo, and I have no idea how the hell it happened either.

When it comes to vehicles and other mechanical stuff cheap CG will always look better than cheap 2D.

Then they really shouldn't bother creating the show to be honest. CGI in anime will always look horrible, and worse than 2D.

>cheap TV anime
Precisely. It fucking shows.

Anime dogfights are unrealistic action fests. To a western audience, it looks like cheesy Bollywood action sequences when they do it like that. Play any WW2 flight sim game to see how easily those planes went into tail spins if you tried to pull hard manuvers. I know this sounds gay as fuck, but Dunkirk did it right.

Was about to mention that.
For as much as I could rip Dunkirk for, the dogfighting was one of the bits it got right.

>More than anything, I want a game set in WW2 that let's me fly an A10 warthog.
People are laughing at you now but Warthunder will unironically have an A-10 in it soon killing WW2 tanks because Gayjew will not be able to resist that sweet burger paypig money.

You go crank out 10 minutes of Honneamise tier animation every week on a tiny budget.

IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 is the best combat flight game.

Prop planes had the best aesthetics and could dogfight without muh missiles

Attached: Dora.jpg (1800x1188, 694K)

Actually the phantom does have decent rear view, you just can't see rear below, but there are a lot of aircraft still like that and many of the soviet designs had the problem in spades. Any time you saw a fishbed rolling left and right you knew it had lost you.

>Excuses

>It's called mass, and those planes don't turn like a fucking car that is doing dagumi.

Keep it coming, retard.

Long boy.

Attached: TA15202.jpg (1000x667, 67K)

So we are agreed that it doesn't look good. It looks precisely how you'd expect for the budget-time constraints and the inconsistent art design.

You mean ¥800.000.000 rape movie

Migs have a little mirror in the canopy, for all it is worth

>Excuses
it's called explaining, look at the fucking video

it's called rudder, the animation is shit but still.

Considering those things it looks fine. It would surely have looked worse with pure 2D animation at the same budget and time constraints.

I liked that short ever since I first saw it. You can also set it to any blood-pumping soundtrack and it fits great.

Attached: snooter.jpg (826x960, 65K)

In terms of dogfighting, A2G strafe/bombing runs, and just the aesthetics prop + turbo prop aircraft all the way. Most of the gameplay with jets is just lock-on interfaces and shooting targets 1-2 miles away. There's nothing intense about them because they're just way too efficient and fast to experience a good dogfight.

No those are excuses for a shit CGI trash anime that can't understand aero physics, or physics at all.
It clipping through the cliff shouldn't even have been through the planning stage at the company that made that trash.

>It's called a rudder, so it can drive like a car in the air with friction that looks similar to rubber against asphalt

Show him a little trick you learned?

The anime is trash but your points are trasher.

Start them up, taxi, fly around, drink, relax, yeah. Then switch to another aircraft and do the same, maybe throw in an enemy aircraft to dogfight with. Keep in mind I flew the original IL-2 series online for about 13 years, so... I'm had my fill of that.

no, the game barely works now.

The guy I posted was Galland's wingman for some time and later designed pic related with his brother.

DELETE THIS

Western media is not willing to tell the story of a pilot allied with the Nazis. That being said, Hans-Joachim Marseille (whom Yellow 13 was based on) was notably quite anti-Nazi, and fought more for his people than his government, with over 150 confirmed kills.

Pretty much the exact same story here. Not sure exactly when I quit but it was somewhere around that time, shortly after they added British tanks, whenever that was. I haven't even reinstalled in at least a year and a half. One thing that really doesn't help is that the whole community seems to be much more focused on tanks than air these days, and I find tanks really boring.

have you not played steel diver?

You do realize the non realistic flight options are enabled for these videos, right?

Su-37

I like both but I like jets a little more.
Props are "holy shit, we're flying"
Jets are "holy shit, technology"

I loved whenever Gunther Rall would show up in a documentary.

>Western media
As opposed to who? Are the Russians suddenly big luftwaffe fans now?

What do you think about twin-engine fighters?

props, you can't have up-close-and-personal aerial battles in jets. Warthunder (an ok game behind a shitty pay2notgrind) is a prime example of this, the low-tier planes are slow and deliberate, allowing time for more interesting maneuvers and tactics.

>dogfights
>"fucking awesome"

Only to the idiots who knew jack and shit about flying. The CGI is terrible and the aircraft behave in Ace Combat tier style unrealistic fashion. I feel embarrassed for the veterans involved in the show.

They all look good but they're a liability.

Love 'em.

Can it fly backward?

I always loved the Mosquito in combat flight simulator 3. Knowing you can out run pretty much anything gives a lot of options.

Disappointed we'll never get to know how the Arrow performed in combat.

I fucking love those retarded experimental German prototypes

>where we're going we don't need runways

>losing the war, industry and manufacturing in ruins
>start designing magical rocketplanes
What the fuck were they thinking?

Could be worse.

Imagine all the fantastical stuff they'd develop if they didn't lose the war. I mean they lost the war but their scientists took the US to the stars

And even with all the simulation autism settings turned up to the max, there's still a fun "gamey" element in pursuing clear objectives in a dynamic (and hostile) environment that many other sims lack.

Cold Waters if you want to scare yourself into a coma.

do a 1968 playthrough and enjoy the thrill of having an Echo II materialize above you

Boomer or zoomer?

its all alien technology they got from the occultists dude
they didnt design shit

>I mean they lost the war but their scientists took the US to the stars
no they did not develop interstellar travel

but they also took the soviets to outer space too
