not only that, the game revels in wasting your time with shit like Blood Moons, pirate invasions, alien invasions
the ultimate truthpill is this: Terraria is only as good as you are lost, it will only be fun when you're looking to distract yourself and kill time, but as soon as you start to take your life seriously again it will lose the charm because you realize you've just spent hours doing nothing but clicking little zombies with a mouse cursor

I've been slowly grinding in expert mode and have hellstone armor and stuff from miraculously killing the eater of worlds (my arena was way too high and the entire eater of worlds despawned except one tiny part that got killed by one of my spam arrows falling down right before I died of poison) and I have no idea what to do now. I can't kill skeletron for shit, what do I do? should I just start hard mode to get better weapons to kill him and also have more stuff to do or would the enemies fuck my ass too hard? Is the wall of flesh bossfight in hardmode relatively easy?

bosses are more often then not faster than you making speed upgrades the most important things to get since 'fighting ' bosses ends up with building arenas and shooting bullet sponges. not a bad game by any means but the boss fights are kind of bull shit

you get a nurse from finding and using a heart crustal. you can find those in caverns underground. you can't really get better armor at the moment without beating the Eye. you could try looking for useful trinkets underground, like hermes boots (make you much faster) or a cloud in a bottle (gives you a double jump).

Mods most people use, like calamity are better saved for subsequent runs as they considerably change how the game is balanced. For now enjoy Terraria for what it is, it has a lot to offer.

Thorium and WeaponOut are my personal favorites on top of quality of life shit like Magic Storage and imkSushi's mod. Thorium is a huge content mod that adds a ton of new shit that meshes with Terraria really well, plus two new multiplayer-themed playstyles in the form of the Bard and Healer.
WeaponOut adds a bunch of little QoF shit but the big thing it adds are fist weapons at every level of the game, which comes with their own combo mechanics and controls. They're kind of overpowered against bosses but it looks kino when your character flies up into the air with the boss to punch them.

I hate building shit, specially if I've got little details to deal with, I love exploring tough, but the rewards went bad, I already lost good items twice my biggest issue is that I wasted sooo much time exploring that kinda went nowhere (never even got enough gold for a full set of armor). I won't play it for a long time because if I get burned out I guess I'll never play again.

I think you sort of ruined it unintentionally by playing mediumcore first. Softcore is honestly the way the game is meant to be played, considering how much emphasis the game puts on collecting materials and upgraded armor. I'd recommend just making a new character/world and trying one last time on softcore, but that's on you. It's also a lot better with friends.

Are mods even worth it? Thorium seems kinda boring, especially in singleplayer, calamity is calamity and most other big content mods are unfinished buggy messes. QoL stuff is mostly about rare stuff being sold for nothing, the only things that are good in this category is magic storage and boss healthbars, but I don't think that it is enough for me to leave vanilla for modded

future is bright lighting. Its releasing later this year. You can already get the beta of it for roblox studio to test it out. Its honestly gonna be quite a big step for the platform

the entire point of hardmode is that you really have to find a solution for the problems

hardmode will fuck you up
get that dashing trinket from the Eye of Cthulhu and build a big arena with honey, campfires and sunflowers above the dungeon
obv make potions too
also practice with your grappling hook before taking on the skeletron
if you have that water spell (it spawned close to the surface in the dungeon) build an enclosed arena, max out your mana, get the best magic dam gear (diamond robes, magic hat and maybe meteor boots) and spam water bolts
if you use ranged weapons, get the crimson set and molten fury/minishark with silver or meteor bullets
if you are patient enough, farm the blood moon zombies until you get a shark tooth necklace
I don't really recommend melee weapons against an expert mode skeletron...

This game is the best 5€ I've ever spend in my entire life (31yo boomer here)

Builds come in all shapes and sizes, if one seems too big and time consuming for your taste you can always go for a smaller one. Most of the bases I've done myself (none of these, these are pulled off Google) haven't been done in a single session but consistently expanded upon as time passed and I got my hands on more materials.

I always get a sense of satisfaction when I'm running around old worlds or even on the one I'm playing in at the time and seeing all the structures I've made and the memories of creating them. It's just a very nice thing for me.
On the other hand I grow disinterested somewhat if the base I'm always going to be coming back to is a huge block of wood with a bunch of chests and NPCs.
