One of the best JRPGs ever made.
Debora best girl.

It's good. The DS version has more monsters to recruit and an extra wife, which the OP pic seems to have chosen.

in the grand scheme of DQ games, where does it rank?

In the top 3 to some and in the top 5 to most.

Definitely a reasonable contestant for the first place.

which is the best?

my current favorites are 8 and 11.

hated 7.

The most common answers to that question are 3, 5 and if you include westerners 8.

You just posted the top 2 imo. I personally would put 5 right after them. 3 is also very good.

ok, looks like I'm gona have a good time.

8, 3, 5, and 7

What's the best Dragon Quest for somebody who doesn't really like Dragon Quest?

IV

11

I guess that would depend on someone's reasons for not liking Dragon Quest, 9 and 11 are probably the ones that deviate the most from the series standards.

dont fall for the deborah cuck propaganda. you have to share bianca only with the horse dick, but deborah with the whole realm

didn't realize how in-depth the waifu system was in this.

3, 5, 7 and 8

>biancafags literally can't stop thinking about horse dick fucking their wife
top cuck

>DS version
>not playing the superior ps2 english patched version

>11
ewwwwww
at least you mentioned 8 though..

11

Why is she the only one associated with that horse?

>ds vs 3ds
Which one should i first?

>deborahfags want nothing more than dance like a girl and watch as the entire town runs a train on her

DQ5 doesn't have a 3DS version.

Should play ps2 version best version

I meant dq as a whole.

One of the best games I've played. Also the best DQ game I've played. Second is 11 followed by 8

One of the best dungeon themes in the entire series. Beautiful. The piano rendition is also very nice.

Well the DS has DQ4, 5, and 6. 3DS only has DQ7 in the west.

>missing out on some of the best sprite work of its generation for a PS2 port that could have run on the N64

Fpbp / thread

Ah fuck theres no english patch for the new game?

>smash a nun introduced last moment that already has a guy
>smash your tomboy childhood friend and save her father indirectly with your dick
why did they even give you the option

If you mean DQ11 on 3DS, then no there is not. I believe the some of the DQ Monsters games on 3DS have translations. I forget which ones.

What are you talking about?
DQ8 is also on 3ds in the west.

Oh shit I forgot about that one. I even beat it and some of the post game too. Whoops.

The Switch port is going to have optional 3DS style mode if that works for you

Only old-school mode.

>he thinks DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN WE WENT GHOST HUNTING HAHAHA is better than a sexy, confident girl who isn't afraid to show it
The only propaganda here is you promoting your shit taste

She's the most popular (and "canon") pick, so she gets the most porn, with or without the horse.

what does that mean?

thread should end here. go play the fucking game OP

honestly more games need a real marriage mechanic, DQV is so fucking amazing for doing that at such a point in time. I don't even care for waifus, I just think it makes a game more fun to have those kinds of lifelong choices.

I really want to play this, but I only have a slim PS2
Is FreeMcBoot easy to get?

>confident girl

>a-user, y-you are really willing me marry me?

3DS version lets you pick between playing a normal 3D version or an old school 2D version that looks like it's out of the super nes era.

It's okay. It's the easiest version and the English script is pretty wonky. Beside that it's the best looking version (ps2 version is ugly as sin outside of battles and snes version is obviously quite old) and the music isn't the best but still quite good.

Every version of DQV has its pros and cons, look into them and see which one you like best.

>marrying Bianca
Big lol

My fav are III, V and VIII
Don't like II and VII

I was liking three until it became hard as hell, and one thing that annoyed the hell out of me is that you have to explore in that super high encounter rate.

Really good version. You get best wife too.

I mean there's the PS2 version, but it's japanese only, looks a bit weird. The music tho

There's a translation patch out there for it. Works really well too. I played it on my PS2 years ago.

I'm partial to 3 and 5

I should play it sometime after I finish VII and play XI. But VII takes something like 7 years and a half to finish.

If it's the 3DS version then it should only take about 3 years. They speed the game up by reducing some of the grind and making it easier to find shards without a guide.

I was playing the PS1 version, I left it roughly halfway through. Maybe I should go with the 3DS version instead.

The PS1 version isn't bad, but I feel like the 3DS version actively tries to not waste your time. Go for it if you can.

Aight. I stopped playing that like 2 years ago, still have the savefile but maybe I need a reminder so I'll go with 3DS, fuck it.

5>7(ds remake)>3>4>9>6>8>2>1
not played 10 or 11. first game I played was 3 when it was released on gameboy colour as dragon warrior 3

>6 above 8
Why?

3 (SNES), 5 (DS) and 7 (PS1)

holy shit, I found a person that just like me, doesn't rate 8 as one of the highest. What the fuck

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Dragon Quest VII started this weird ''let's make the game longer for absolutely no reason'' trend. It didn't bother me in VIII as it was my first DQ game (am European, and VIII is the first DQ game released in EU, after which I played all previous games on consoles and/or emulators), but I just couldn't force myself to finish VII, IX and now XI

you have good taste, 8 is babies first DQ along with 11 now

I genuinely don't understand why people like 8 so much. it has slow gameplay and even less inspired than usual plot. I don't think the characters are any stronger than usual in the post dq4 games. I don't want to be dismissive but I assume a big reason 8 is people's favourite is because it's the first one they play. Maybe the additional story focus on dragon quest 8 pulls some people in but I don't play dragon quest for some overall story - althouhg obviously V does this incredibly well. I do it for the interactions between the characters and the charming villages/villagers that you meet. I also appreciate it when the gameplay is quicker and more sophiscated with classes etc

Speaking of XI, I got a ship, went to Puerto Valor, spent some time as poker table (where the max bet is 100) and now I'm sitting at 307k coins. Should I buy all those items from store and go, or should I play more? Meaning, will there be new items available for trade?

I just don't like that it feels slower than VII being shorter, story and characters are saturday morning anime tier (which I understand a lot of people like but I don't dig) and the weapon mastery system... fuck that shit. 9 did it better.

No I understand the arguments against DQ8, but I usually see people put it at above at the very least DQ6. 6 just felt so boring.

Also I keep mixing roman numerals and arabic, fuck me

This, but Bianca because I don't want a STD.

since there's no HDD in a slim you'll need the freemcboot card, either you do swapping which can get messy or you simply buy one.

Not that user, but I'm so glad I did that back in the day. I even installed FMCB to another mem card that I had just in case. I played so many PS2 games with it back then. I need to find my DVD case full of burned games so I can play them some more.

Ok for specifics 6 v 8:
as I said the class system I think this is in 6's favour.
6 is less padded/less long cutscene exposition nonsense. yes 8 probably has better characters but I don't think it's by much. Carvery, nevan, terry are still pretty decent. I think the dream gimmick is more interesting than just playing it straight - but this has draw back of you going through the same world twice.

Shoot, guess I gotta buy one then
I've been meaning to play DQV forever anyway, and out of all the versions I've seen the PS2 one is the most comfy

youtube.com/watch?v=zjhujWS73IQ

Get that game.

I didn't like the class system in 6, I mean, the characters pretty much had classes from the very beginning anyway, and you end up with 8 pages of special attacks/spells for each character.

>orchestral soundtrack, 3D graphics and is designed for consoles
vs
>a third wife
The blonde seems like the "canon" choice, anyway

Just started DQVIII for the 3DS this week, its my first game in the series and Im really enjoying it, cant believe I never gave it a chance before.

Attached: bestbro.gif (500x500, 641K)

it's decent but overrated

(t. user you quoted)
I played all 3 versions - SNES, PS2 and DS
Honestly, I can't which one is better, PS2 or DS

*I can't tell which
(fuck my fast typing and missing words)

Also more monsters to recruit and portability. I've played both and the SNES, but I like the DS one more since I find Debora's party chat very entertaining.

Yeah it's a fine game. Try some of the others if you like it when you beat it.

sure you're pushed into certain archetypes rather than something lik e9 where you can create whatever you want without being penalised but still I think making your choice of one of your 9 original sspecialisations some of which are a clear trade off of combat prowess for utility and then working out what hybrid you want is more interesting and complex than the talent trees in 8 esp as you also get semi-locked into particular weapons

>finally get to play Terry's Wonderland
>it's fucking great

Fuck sqeenix for not bringing it stateside
