There never was, Quake was the only Arena shooter that was ever relevant and its scenes have been mostly dead for ages. UT was never popular

At no point did I say anything against this. I'm not saying CoD was the first big FPS game by any means, but nobody's developing games to be FPSes these days that aren't MMO Destiny clones, Battle Royal shooters, or already established franchises like CoD or Battlefield.
