My friend had a flashdrive with Stepmania on it and he literally spent all his free time on the computers playing it. People who play sports are staying active in an increasingly unhealthy world and playing the game's of more significant cultural icons so there's a level of respect and common ground one can achieve by doing what's more widely popular. Playing an instrument shows intelligence and requires more talent and skill and is appreciated on an almost universal level as a craft. Painting and drawing is one of the oldest hobbies in the world and is an actual skill people would pay for and is more of an outlet to show your creativity. Sure, you can flex a type of craft in Minecraft but what you do there isn't very applicable to the real world.
