how it's dead again? VC4 sales is decent
D E N U V O
wat
They charged way too much for the game. Sega and Koei seem to have this massive fucking hard-on for charging more than the average company for games.
Best girl
Did they regret killing her off in the first game?
I blame Raita
At least the better Valkyria Crimmeria lived
holy fuck
i thought vc4 did pretty decent?
game didn't even sell 300k. VC4 it's literally the worst selling game in the series despite being the second best.
Bawhahahhaha. OK, maybe relative to the budget SEGA could squeeze paying the development off, but the game isn't the soft reboot SEGA wanted it to it to be for the franchise. To recap:
VC1 PS3-->VC2 PSP-->VC3 PSP (not localized)-->nearly 10 years--->Valkyria Revolution-->VC4
They fucked up by not marketing VC4 hard enough, VC4 was in a very competitive month sandwiched between Dragon Quest XI and Spiderman PS4 of the two they had the normies demographic and the weeb market, they shot themselves in the foot by putting Devuno DRM on the PC version and I certainly would never buy any PC game with Devuno on it just to hurt my CPU, they didn't update the game engine so it's still PS3 era visuals competing against high end games (Wind Waker, Breath of the Wild, and Skyward Sword all use different celshading, VC1 and VC4 look the same) leading to VC4 coming off as a Jumanji late to the party expansion pack to 2008 PS3 era graphics and gameplay design, and they couldn't even get the anime crowd by not leaving the option to select your main heroine something that VC3 did post-release, leaving people with blonde shit Riley while the more popular Minerva and Kai don't get marriage endings.
Series is dead. SEGa took a stab at reviving it twice with Revolution and 4, they more than likely developed both on an shoestring budget which is why they feel B tier but couldn't carve out a niche in an era of mobile strategy waifu games and Fire Emblem. Ball's in Sakura Wars court, don't fuck it up now SEGA.
switchbros promised they would save it
what happened?
Should've said fuck it and just made a VN about dating cute military girls in times of war, desu
Releasing on 4 platforms, VC4 didn't appear on the top selling PHYSICAL software charts on PS4/Xbox One/PC/Switch. VC4 didn't appear on the stop selling DIGITAL software charts for PS4/X1/PC/Switch. The game was heavily discounted, including the premium tank package edition, within 2 months at 50% off. We know this since Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo have top 20 selling games of the month and VC4 was missing on all of them, in addition to not appearing in North America NPD top 20 selling software for September.
The game fared worse in Japan, with the Switch version selling the absolute worst. Demoralizing for the VC developers, since I am guessing VC4 was a passion project they knew wouldn't sell a lot like Persona 5 but they wanted to growth the fanbase. Instead, it feels like everyone went their separate ways after VC1 PC/PS3.
>only sold 5300 on switch first week
They can't save shit
While we have a VC4 thread up, can we get more Kai in this thread. I need my Snaifu.
Should have stayed PlayStation exclusive.
Though in all honesty, the game did nothing new for the series and it also wasn't a game someone new to the series could jump into. It was a good game but it didn't stand out in any way
Maybe it just needs time to rest.
How about a Skies of Arcadia 2 for now?
The gameplay literally just rush scout/camp rush shit, VC 2/3 tried to fix that but they literally bring the scout/camp rush cancer back again in 4.
I for one glad that it died, what a fucking shitty xcom clone.
The threads never talked about the gameplay anyway, it just a shitty excuse to spam raita artworks.
I don't know how you guys find this attractive she looks like she's about to slap you.
That's the idea.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 isn't in any of the top 20 for any of these. Not once. As for its home market of Japan: PS4 and Switch sales (Japan)
(en.wikipedia.org
>76,778 PS4
>5,596 Switch
Massive sales flop. It literally got ignored to death. I salute those who bought the tank edition for $90 only for it to go down to $40 in just 1-2 months.
I'm alright with it being dead. VC4 didn't try too hard to stop scout rushing apart from a few condition based missions.
Kek fuck em
>Series is dead
cry that as much as you want but you'll still be wrong. this is sega afterall,
this post is correct
Man that sucks. I was really hoping VC4 sold enough to justify a VC5. It really seems like SRPGs don't have much of an audience. I think Fire Emblem may be one of the few long running strategy RPGs that is decently popular.
Honestly, the series was never very good. For a supposed 'tactics' game, there was precious little tactical depth:
>Health regenerates every turn.
>You have an endless supply of healing Ragnaid.
>You have an endless supply of ammo.
>Dying has no real consequence. You can resurrect fallen allies simply by touching them, which brings them back into the same battle, at no cost.
>The ranking system punishes any tactic other than 'scout rush', depriving you of XP and money (not that it really matters, with how easy the game is).
>The cover system is very simplistic and protects you from all sides, even if an enemy attacks you from behind.
>The line of sight system is very simplistic, the map shows where enemies are even if your characters couldn't possibly see them from the spot they're positioned at.
>Orders feel like cheat codes and make the game even more of a joke, bestowing huge advantages on your units and huge disadvantages on enemy units.
>You can turn a single character into a one-man army by constantly spending CP on them. The enemy cannot do the same.
>Enemy stats are much lower than what the stats of player units, and enemy A.I. is artificially made stupid. This is not speculation, the wiki confirms it: valkyria.wikia.com
>Quote from the wiki: "The Valkyria Chronicles AI has some odd behaviours regarding Command Points; most obviously, the AI seems unable to control any unit more than twice in a single turn, no matter how advantageous it would be for them to do so. The AI also frequently uses CP on units which are not engaged in combat, simply having them patrol at their current location"
All these factors all add up to make VC incredibly forgiving. I can't even imagine how you could possibly lose a battle unless Welkin's tank gets destroyed (the possibility of which can be prevented rather easily by simply positioning the back of the tank against a wall or other piece of scenery).
I just hope they tone down some of retarded anime trope. I know its an anime game but ffs beach episode is like the bottom of the barrel shit and clash so bad with its war theme
I don't think flaws with the gameplay have much to do with the sales of the series at all though. Pretty sure it's because it's just a niche game in a really niche genre.
I WANT TO BULLY MINERVA
Same but hatefuck until I impregnate Minerva and then she demands I take responsibility for the child.
Those PS4 sales seem reasonable. Not amazing, but 75k week one in just Japan is respectable considering the reuse of assets and engine.
a beach scene in a war scenario isn't that farfetched, is it?
>>The ranking system punishes any tactic other than 'scout rush', depriving you of XP and money (not that it really matters, with how easy the game is).
For me that's the biggest flaw. A lot of units/weapons/orders feel useless, since the game is about rushing.
>Should have stayed PlayStation exclusive.
retarded bitch. shut the fuck up
>>Dying has no real consequence. You can resurrect fallen allies simply by touching them, which brings them back into the same battle, at no cost.
This is a pretty common concept in video games and SRPGs.
Also, you lose the unit for the rest of the battle as they're forced to retreat even when saved.
No, anyone who complains about soldiers acting goofy is a never-served.
Ah yeah, Apocalypse Now truly show the realistic depiction of the Vietnam war.
It has been dead for a long time. 4 was the twitch in the leg of a dead rat.
Wait, you're telling me anime tropes are real?
At least the series gets to go out with a good game rather than wallowing in 1 or 2 shit games before dying pathetically.
I actually liked 4. The main issue I had was Claude was a boring protagonist and Riley was a shit female lead/love interest. That aside, it's a miracle we even got a VC4 given Sega's utter mismanagement of this franchise. I'm pretty sure the franchise is done for now.
>This is a pretty common concept in video games and SRPGs.
>X-COM has permadeath
>Jagged Alliance has permadeath
>Silent Storm has permadeath
>Fucking baldur's gate and fallout, 'normal' rpgs, have permadeath
>Also, you lose the unit for the rest of the battle
No, you don;t, you can just redeploy them at the cost of just 1 CP.
This.
I and others were lowkey hoping VC3 would get a worldwide re-release in some fashion. Dream's dead.
>just want a military based strategy game full of cute girls
why is it so hard for game devs to give me what i want
I wanted to like VC 4 so much, but holy fucking shit, between Sega's mismanagement and their piss poor decisions within VC 4 itself, I cannot genuinely feel sad for this game biting the bullet
I'm just saying soldiers aren't super serious glaring meatheads with no concept of fun. If the shit hasn't hit the fan there's little reason to not shoot the shit.
Also that's a lot of butter.
who cares about these shit ass gook games
VC has permadeath too if an enemy touches your units before you can or if you dont rescue them in 3 Turns.
This series is not that good to begin with. If you just want japanese game with lewd characters there are already plenty of that
Also I disgusted how Raita draw those wonky anatomy and i pity anyone who fapping to his art
Same. I at least wanted an official English release of VC3 before the series got scrapped.
>waste best girl as a half baked love insert to some obnoxious jobber who dies anyway
>make some tsundere bitch the main girl and give her a happily ever after end with the protagonist that feels forced as fuck
Fuck you SEGA.
why does she have hooves
>VC has permadeath too if an enemy touches your units before you can or if you dont rescue them in 3 Turns.
Not in any practical sense. The AI is programmed to never touch dead units, and why would you leave a unit to die when you can revive them in the same phase just by walking over them? You don't even need to pay a resource or something.
Its her gloves
Except, you know, using CP to walk over to them and being exposed to enemy fire? There's a reason they died
Permadeath only ever becomes a factor if you try to rush a map and you somehow overextend and get one character killed in places where the enemy moves about. The enemy will always make a small detour if its on the same way as your fallen unit. With that said I dont think I ever lost a character in any VC game despite that. Only had that happen once in VC1 with the one-way train carts in the mission before Fouzen where one sniper died due the 3-turn rule because I had no way to get him back.
VC4 is pretty lenient since you get regular orders and ship orders to save incarcerated units.
Don't worry, I'm sure a gacha mobage version is coming soon. Then the franchise is truly dead.
always been niche, but aside from FE there have been other commercially successful console series recently such as divinity OS/2 and disgaea. of course there are many low-selling indies on pc keeping the genre alive for devoted fans as well. i'd love to see overhype, whalenought, iron tower etc. have great financial success, but being under the radar also keeps them motivated and safer from the publisher temptation that found inxile, hbs, and logic artists. that sweet spot between starvation and satisfaction
There was a card game already, it was based on VC3 IIRC. It closed down in the end and Raita probably gets more money from a single character design in FGO than he would from designing tons of characters again for a VC gacha game. Besides, DBZ and Fire Emblem have gacha and their franchises aren't dead so quit bleeding out your ass over being an old out of touch grandpa when it comes to mobile games.
>first game was rough around the edges but a interesting game with a unique presentation
>put the sequel on the fucking PSP and have the setting be some school shit
>the third game is also on the PSP and never even got localized
>rerelease the first game and get surprised when it does well
>make some god awful spin off that flops
>finally make a proper sequel but don't bother to market it at all
SEGA really fucked up with this entire franchise.
Not sure how this relates to my comment about how Valkyria should just be a VA with military waifus and Raita art at this point, but okay with the sales figures. Means nothing to me.
>should just be a VA
Meant to say a VN
Sega may have been to blame for Valkyria Revolution. But >>>(You) are to blame for pirating VC2, VC3 and not buying VC4
Why do I need VC for that? I only bought it because it has Gameplay with a good character design and gfx. I dont think anyone really cares about the world building without gameplay to back it up
What the fuck was up with Valkyria Revolution's creation? SEGA just greenlit two Valkyria games at the same time and they thought the niche Valkyria IP deserved a spinoff Mushou/Warriors game....based on what market data after disappearing from the Western market for a decade?
Correct, but the only good thing about Valkyria Chronicles is the art. If the writing was enhanced a bit to be a more dramatic long-form story, with dating thrown in, it would be much more enjoyable, not to mention cheaper. The SRPG elements are mediocre at best.
I bought VC2 and VC4 though. I only emulated VC3 because that was the only way to play it. The series was always niche and Sega's mishandling of it was the main thing that killed it.
SRPG is mediocore because SEGA has no idea how to program an AI that isnt easily exploited to do the thing you want it to do. The AI is far to predictable.
If its dead thats that, atleast we got 4 games
The thing is, we asked SEGA for a 4th game, we got it, it was good, but for some reason it didnt not sell that well
Lack of marketing maybe? Either way i cant blame SEGA here, if there really was a market for thing id have seen more sales i think
This sucks
I did my part, preordered both VC1 on pc and VC4
How is this SEGA's fault?
They literally made the game everyone wanted
Not their fault shitters have no taste
It was a lack of multiple things. It doesn't really help that VC4 was pretty much just a slightly improved VC1 and essentially ignored anything that VC2 and VC3 brought to the tablet.
I'm up to the ambush at the beginning of winter. How much else do I have until the end?
I enjoyed VC4 but it really had no business costing 60€/$ with all that reused asset. It didnt even have that many proper cutscenes, majority were just ingame ones.
I would say THE best, it is 1 with upgrades and better characters.
VC3 HD never ever ;_;
>All the girls from 2 are dead and forgotten
>Media.Vision was recruiting for a War SRPG remake on PS4 a few years ago
>Absolutely nothing since that posting
We probably would have heard something by now if it was VC3.
I don't really see the issue, but fine, it wouldn't have hurt it being 20 dollars cheaper out of the gate or something
Hindsight is 20/20 I guess.
I approve of your taste. Alexis was a total boss and I'm glad she was in my squad. Shame ushering the name VC2 gets the mob on your ass these days.
>"Proper Cutscenes" have to be pre-rendered
>VC4 is pretty much just an enhanced version of VC1 which leads to it not selling well
>Ace Combat 7 is just an enhanced version of the PS2 Ace Combat games and it ends up doing the best in the franchise
What was the difference?
>I dont see the issue re-using assets from 10 years ago to sell a game at full price
You could have sold VC4 as an add-on for VC1 because thats how it feels when you look at what new things it actually brought to the table.
>VC4 sales is decent
They were pretty bad actually. Not Azure Revolution bad at least but low enough that I think Sega won't continue the series after this.
It had an amazing run.
No reason to be sad. 4 games, 3 of them are some of the coolest SRPGs.
>release jrpg weeks after DQ11
>it doesn't sell
sega is retarded
Hold the fucking phone, are you seriously trying to tell VK4 has the same assists as VK1?
If you are, you are a fucking moron.
AC7 had a massive graphics leap and its frsnchise wasnt as controversial as VC4. The only stinker AC had was AH.
The original ace combat games were good, the original valkyria chronicles was not.
i want to FUCK jimmy
The empire has like only 3 new tanks of which one only appears at the very end in Schwartzgrad. Even a lot of buildings are still from VC1. It feels like a map-pack with a new faction (i.e the Federation).
Ace Combat 7 was a massive leap of graphical quality from Ace Combat 6 and Assault Horizon. It looked like grade A effort by the team to make the best of this gen's console power and to iterate on the old continuity with a new storyline. It garnered an underdog status and their main PR guy was always talking about how much effort Team Aces was putting into Ace Combat 7. So much he recently tweeted how AC7 was almost cancelled because Namco upper management wasn't confidant in the product.
VC4 continues the trend of SEGA not moving o from Valkria Chronicles 1. I mean that two-fold: in the storyline department they can't move past VC1 for the "member berries" nostalgia bait and Selvaria fan service (just retcon her death lmao) and they seemingly put out a PS3 era game engine going toe to toe with Spiderman PS4 and Dragon Quest 11. Out of their fucking minds, they could have done more with the presentation, I don't see this as a last hurrah like Fire Emblem Awakening was made as the final installment at the time. The demographic for this game was getting smaller and they were going to different places to get their strategy anime waifu fix, the final nail was not letting the player choose between Minerva or Kai as their wife. F.
i'm still amazed at how bad SEGA is at handling their franchises. SEGA has some next level retardation status
People like to meme about >weebshit in japanese games but VC is the only series I've played where the anime stuff actually felt like it ruined everything.
>VC4 continues the trend of SEGA not moving o from Valkria Chronicles 1
Going back to VC1 was exactly what you fags were asking for after the PSP games and Azure Revolution. All they did was give the fans what they asked for.
Doesn't matter what the reason is at this point, it's been consistent through the entire series so I can confidently say that they will never get it right and as such the franchise's gameplay will always be mediocre at best. Just cut out the middleman and give us the cute military waifus constantly without the mundane combat, and focus on the girls more and how it personally impacts them, and less on the grand war feel. Making it more personal by relating the war more specifically to the girls would ground the conflict more anyway.
I would buy it if it didn't had Denuvo. Im still waiting for its removal, you know.
Shouldn’t make games that look fucking boring then, even to weebs.
I could just play MuvLuv for that. It even has great Mecha designs.
claude is such a lame character
if kai's ass were the main character I would have enjoyed it more
>they seemingly put out a PS3 era game engine going toe to toe with Spiderman PS4 and Dragon Quest 11.
It's kind of shocking that AC7 went out with similar odds going against RE2 Remake and Kingdom Hearts 3 and still did fine.
Because it's literally a side-story canonically to VK1. Of-fucking-course they're going to design it like they did in VK1, granted VK4 assists aren't the most meticulously crafted and frankly kinda lazy you can still tell they aren't the exact same assists
outside Assault Horizon and the first X title. AC have always been good. AC7 is the same good old AC but with a massive graphics updates. the series also had been constantly fine tuned little by little.
VC refuses to move past VC1. and when do decide to not use the VC1 setting they make a really shitty game that taints the image of the franchise.
Valkyria Revolution also didn't help. That game perma killed the brand for normies who bought it TBQH.
When it comes to their accomplishments:
Squad 7 = Squad 422 > Squad E > Class G
You can't refute this
REALITY CHECK!
>Valkyria is now dead.
What has never been alive cannot die. The series was always niche and never sold well enough to warrant any of the effort put in.
>Valkyria 4 was a failure.
It wasn't. They made Valkyria 4 to test the engine in preparation for the new Sakura Taisen game. Valkyria being that failed clone of Sakura Taisen mechanics, it was the perfect choice.
>You're lying or making shit up.
You're free to read the Japanese interviews yourself. They don't sugar-coat anything about the series or its ultimate purpose as a beta test.
VC4's engine is the same as VC1's engine. What reason would there be to make an entire new game to just test it for ST when VC1 already exists.
VC2 did a big enough damage already. Zeri, shocktooper and its evolutions are the only good things in that game
Sakura Taosen needs to fix their shit mecha designs.
Isnt 4 games and 1 bad spin off enough already? Does every game need 20 sequels?
>tfw they maybe could have saved the brand if it wasn't for revolution
having 4 in the name must have turned people away from it but without it it'd be even more tarnished by revolution. They used up their fucking chance to drop the number.
Is she a tsun or what's her deal?
Leena should have been the main heroine, Riley was really boring and she didn't even have that much relevance to the main plot.
VC4 adds some shit like weather effects that are Sakura Taisen staples.
Mostly it's porting work to PS4 and Switch. Hence why it's so similar to VC1 from a technical standpoint.
yeah she is pretty much a tsuntsun because worst girl won
>It's kind of shocking that AC7 went out with similar odds going against RE2 Remake and Kingdom Hearts 3 and still did fine.
AC7 has significantly better production values than VC4, which literally has talking anime heads n lieu of actual custcenes most of the time.
>dead
VC1 seams to be doing really well on switch. The port is always pretty high in the online store charts. Maybe if it makes enough money, SEGA will finally localize VC3.
>26 pages of selvaria
>not even one full page of kai
a pity
She wants to jump the main character in 4
Right now i only have hope in the newest VC3 translation project, SEGA'd have to redo the entire game for that
VC1 has the same weather effects except now its a snowstorm instead of a desert storm.
This semi-epilogue was kino.
are there any deserts in 4? I remember seeing some battle potentials regarding deserts early on and expecting them to appear but I'm at chapter 18 and they spent more than half the game in the snow
Not that I remember. Its only snow from now on.
what happened??
Pretty sure the Vietnamese don't care about any games except LoL and Fifa
Vietnamese love, love, love Age of Empires 1.
And gooks are Koreans.
No one likes that gay ass military dating sim. I bet you also like Trails of Cold Shit, nerd.
>charge shitloads
>cripple the game with denuvo
>wooow why isn't it selling well?
Fucking SEGA
It made me disgusted.
The whole thing with Gusurg was the most frustrating thing of VC3 for me. It's the one thing that made me not sympathize with the MC. The guy betrays you and vows to kill your waifu, you don't have pity for someone like that, you try to make an example of him and the consequences of his actions.
>VC1 seems to be doing really well
Story of the franchise right there
stop being poor and a piratefag.
Calm down Mr.Edge
If anyone was Mr.Edge it was Gusurg.
What about the sword/melee class?
Irrelevant in every game but VC2
>You can turn a single character into a one-man army by constantly spending CP on them. The enemy cannot do the same.
They can, it just doesn't do it unless its a boss character. Bosses are the only times where characters may actually be killed permanently unless your soldier happens to die where a scout is running to the flag.
You got a point about flag rushing. Its really terrible that time is the biggest rank determiner.
That's not even the last winter ambush, brah.
Did 4 even have any advertising?
