You know how many kids shoot people every day? Look it up. Then look at how many make the news, and under what circumstance.

I'm autistic, one time when I was like 15 I legit planned to hold my stepmom at kitchen-knife-point and bound her with duct tap. I had the stuff read to go and was just waiting for her to come out of the room she locked herself in. I was like 14 or 15. I didn't want to kill her, I just wanted the car keys so I could run away.

I did a lot of really stupid shit as a kid. And I went undiagnosed until I was 32 years old, so I had no way of coping with this crazy. No doctors could fix it. I spent half my teenage years in mental institutions. I was officially diagnosed with bipolar but it was wrong (this was common in the 90s because the symptoms are so similar during puberty years). Once I knew the true diagnoses,my entire life snapped together like a 1000 piece puzzle instantly warping into place and I was able to get a reign on my crazy. Mostly. Been about 8 years and I'm still learning new tricks to stay stable. Lithium+Xanax helps a ton.

Everytime I see my parents, they apologize for making me spend my teenage years in institutions. They feel really guilty about it, and nothing I say changes that. But yeah if I had known then, I could have easily corrected 20 years of mistakes. They could never find a medicine that worked or a treatment plan that brought results (because the diagnosis was wrong). It was a fucking disaster.

The worst part is I had a kid when I was 21. I didn't take any precautions. And he is 14 years old and can barely string together a sentence (moderate autism). Because I didn't know the gene pool was tainted. I knew I wasn't bipolar even back then. I thought I was just a bad seed. And his diagnosis is what made me get my diagnosis. I took the hint from him.

video games are addictive and exposure should be limited to children. I bet the father was the type to let his kid play for hours every single day. You can't just expect addicts to act calmly if you cut the supply instead of weening them off.
