The reason it got money in early access got removed with the release of 1.0. It suddenly became a Mass Effect clone with only one ending. No race specific story lines anymore, no race specific planets, every enemy/weapon/armor is the same shit with a different modifier, one play through will get you anything the game has to offer, everything is the same shit after a few planets.

Basically a huge fucking waste of potential thanks to greedy SF hipsters that thought they could fire their coders and do everything themselves while moving their office to a different country with EA money. fuckerfish should be blacklisted after that fiasco.

Nope, not anymore atleast with the dogshit forced story everyone is forced into.

Think of it as Terraria Lite in space. It's not nearly as difficult as Terraria and is much more forgiving though, so if you're more the creative "build shit and laze about" player, Starbound isn't a bad deal.

When is Terraria difficult? There's so many builds and weapons that trivialize every boss and event except for the final boss which is fitting because it's the final boss.

I like it very much, but from my understanding a lot of content was cut before release and it hasn't been updated for too long now.

By that I'm referring to stuff like goblin hordes, pirate attacks, blood moons, etc. The kind of stuff that happens regardless of how far ahead you are in crafting/managing armor and weapons. For a new player not expecting that shit, it can be a tough surprise. I still remember getting my shit pushed in by the goblin army I didn't realize was coming because I was too deep in a cave to notice.

By the time a Goblin invasion hits you'd have full demonite/crimtane armor, 400 health and jungle weapons like the Bee gun, The Bee's Knees and Beekeeper. You'd have to be totally clueless to be caught off guard because a message flashes twice that they're approaching from east or west.

Art style is leagues above Terraria, some gameplay changes are great (swimming mainly, better grappling hook, gunplay--instruments are fun as fuck), but beta content that was removed seriously damaged the game. Multiple player races were gonna have their own stories but the devs canceled that because it would be too hard/too time consuming and they didn't want to. It's worth picking up for $15 or less, preferably less, and good with friends.

Not if you're brand new to the game and hadn't heard of any of it before. Remember Terraria was touted as the "2D Minecraft" back in the day, so a lot of newcomers weren't expecting the spike in combat difficulty right off the bat. Or the corruption concept as a whole. You get the demonite and beekeeper weapons now because you know how to get it, where to get it, and aren't focused on anything other than upgrades. New players, or more casual ones, might not be aware of it. Still a great game, but deceptively simple in appearance. I'd say SB is simple and too easy by comparison because of how well Terraria pulls it off.

It's a fun sandbox. More for self motivated players, I always go in with a character and a goal, like a conservationalist robot programmed to collect and catalog every living thing and create a garden complex/ecological shelter with interplanetary samplings

Just replay terraria, starbound captured none of what made it good. My most disappointing game in recent memory.

It was never touted as 2D minecraft, very transparent you're a Chucklefuck shill and should probably neck yourself for making a horrible, unoptimized and unfun game.

It was supposed to be good as it's very much copying a good game but they somehow fucked up and it's just horrible. Same pieces of generated landscapes, ruins, caves and building over and over again. They didn't make enough variety and it shows after a few hours of playing.

Yeah. If only there was a game that took it's concept of 2D exploration, crafting, and building, but refined it. Like, imagine if they did away with the retarded infinite infinitely dull planets and instead just focused on one map with enough features to keep you busy for hours. How great would that be?

Then you're going to need to deal with the fact that anything ambitious like infinite exploitable planets inevitably means that they'll all be equally barren because you cannot physically program enough shit into the game to make each and every planet feel engaging and interesting.

And I'm not talking about finding random shit like some pointless building sitting on an otherwise barren planet because ayy lmao. Terraria's biomes feel vibrant and exploring them is actually interesting because the enemies are designed specifically for that area and along an expected path of progression in power so they pose an actual challenge. The most interesting thing I ever found in Starbound was some random toilet dungeon

it could be similar to how characters can transfer between worlds in terraria, but instead of the main menu you have your space ship
when you search for a new planet, it generates it not unlike terraria generates a new world

terraria is more fun to play, but i really hate how the world is just random shit mashed together. it's not about anything so i don't care about my builds or character.

starbound has a cooler world and characters that are about something, but it forces you to be a very specific thing which deflates the whole thing. it even forces me to have a pet, why not make it a choice? also the whole planet tier system is dumb as hell. i so hate it when the game gives you all these cool gadgets and places to explore but in the end the only dangerous place is a lava world and the only good weapon is a poison rocket launcher because they have more numbers stacked on their stats

I bought Starbound right after finished Terraria back when the Golem was the last boss and played it with the same group of friends expecting it to be more Terraria, but we were all bored to tears after five hours and we never touched it again.

Back in beta it had some good mechanics, like heat, radiation or coldness, which weree actual hazards. Right before 1.0 release most of the features got axed/dumbed down and got replaced by story mode that is uninteresting chosen one -bullshit. The soundtrack is still great though.
