This was a major let down. Undeath is suppose to fuck you up in the head, especially if you've been mentally tortured like Derek was. And yet he still approaches Jaina with his big doe eyes, hat in hand apologetically, like he's asking for forgiveness for existing. He should be fucking fury and hellfire against the Horde just like his father was, but worse.

Sylvanas raised them with free will, which is why they are not all fucked in the head (although a lot are)

Also the way Sylv raised Derak was more serene because she wanted him to blend in despite his undeath and act as a brainwashed mole so that when he gets accepted by his family into kul tiras he would assassinate them. Hell we dont even know if Sylv DID mind control him and is just having him feign ignorance as a way to get in.

If Sylv raised him as a feral monster then he would not be able to do what her plan needs or did need, depending on if she already mind controlled him or not. Derek says she hasn't but thats also what a mind controlled Derek trying to blend in would say.

The twist is going to be,

If the Horde player told Sylv about Baines plan, then Derek will have already been mind controlled and Sylv used Baines plan as a way to get Derek into the Proudmoores Trust easier than planned.

If the player did NOT tell sylvanas, then Derek really isnt mind controlled.

When Devs said that Horde players choice of loyalty will have an effect on the game but not a huge one, I bet that effect is if Derek is killed or not depending on if you told sylv so she had time to mind control him.

Baine, seeing that her doing this contradicts everything her free willed undead, the forsaken, stand for decides to partner with Zelling and the Horde player character to save Derek and deliver him to Jaina before the mind control.

The Horde player can choose to tell sylv of the plan or not but either way they go along with the plan to not raise suspicion that they sided with the Dark lady if they told her and helps them break Derek out.

Later on Sylv finds out whether you tell her or not and kills Zelling and arrests Baine for this treason against her
