yeah, I wanted to open it on the ship too, because I thought I had to "investigate" it. I tried so many times going all the way around it getting caught many times until I gave up and got the mission successfully solved anyway without looking into it at that point. Of course I took it at the end when playing through the first time. Who doesn't want to suck elder berry juice to get closer to THE cursed one.

I'd recommend first to replay the vanilla game again and do a melee run/guns run if you haven't done it because The Final Nights and Antitribu change the clans completely

TFN is considerably hard since you take more damage than usual, get less xp from quests, passwords from computers are changed. Haggle system and Inspection is reworked. Haggle is now needed to seduce blood dolls, and get more money from quests cause you'll get very little. Inspection is nice now since you'll find every weapon and every armor scattered through the game, just depends how high it is and you'll save money from instead of just buying them. There's also quite a bit of bloodloss and the need to feed is really much more. The modder removed skill books from the world and put them in two NPCs. One is at the pier and the other at Downtown, so they're kinda more important than ever since you get less xp than usual. I've played only 2 clans from TFN which are Salubri and The Followers of Set.
Antitribu mod is a hard mod since there's a lot added fights in practically every main quest; Elizabeth Dane, the Museum is reworked I think and there's a boss there too. . There's also a follower mod built into Antitribu, so you can get your waifus to fight with you or pose them in your haven. Clans are kinda more fun than in TFN.

Clan Quest mod is easy, optional blood loss that is shared with the rest mods and is influenced by humanity and stamina. New quests in Downtown, Clan quests. Can join the Sabbat after Hollywood, new Sabbat specific area with quests. NPCs are pretty decently voiced for a mod, music is pretty good too. It just gets really shitty after that when you're going to kill the Camarilla and Anarchs. Kinda more buggy than usual too. You can diablerize now to get stats and abilities, and can do it to every major NPC and even the plaguebearer ones too at the cost of one humanity point despite it being hard locked at 3.

There is a 'good' Camarilla ending, but it's not readily obvious and you have to make some specific decisions in some optional quests to get it

Dragon's Breath and especially the True Black Hand blade are much better. Melee > ranged in general in the game, unless you're gay sanic.

If you read up on all the clans/bloodlines from the tabletop game, some of them are probably impossible in a video game context. And others are easily doable, but would probably require an entirely separate system of mechanics just for them to do their shit.

I mean, even VtM:B changed how disciplines and clan weaknesses work to better suit the gameplay. It's obvious you can't adopt tabletop stuff to vidya 1 to 1, especially heavily narrative focused tabletop like World of Darkness stuff

Some of them are flat-out impossible within the context of a game with gameplay like VTMB. It's an alright game, I really don't get why people overblow it so much. The best sections in the game are the earliest. The apartment is the best safe house I've seen in a game because of how realistic it felt. I really stopped giving a shit about story somewhere half-way through. Plus it's a clunky piece of shit, and don't tell me I didn't play it when it came out, because I did.

It's mostly about the atmosphere and replayability really. A great atmosphere can overshadow lots of game's flaws. And all the different clans make you want to return to it and play though it differently

Unofficial Patch fixes that. Even in Basic configuration, if I remember right.

There are also Malkavians for craziness, Tremere for magic, melee clans if you played ranged(or vice versa), social playthroughs, sneaky playthroughs etc. Sure, many segments will look the same nevertheless, but the game really does a good job at making you want to come back and reexperience it differently

You don't even need to dump that many points i to it. I kept my sneak at 5 and it was good enough that I could be literally touching enemies and they wouldn't react all the way up to endgame.

If you're playing as Malk or Nossie you don't even have to put any points into sneak, 2nd level obfuscate will make you completely undetectable even with 1 sneak. It's fucking broken

It's not like that really, you can walk the streets normally, you just can't stay too close to anyone for too long, except for named NPCs. Basically just keep away from pedestrians and you'll be fine. Also Nossies get some cool alternative dialogue with many NPCs and an alternative haven

Clan Quest Mod 4.0 is a must. It's absolutely amazing and it adds tons of new quests. It even adds a new hub and the ability to join the Sabbat. I never play without it anymore.

The Sabbat hub is nice, Victoria and some of the other "voice actors" did a pretty good job but its a buggier mess than ever. Constant crashes when traveling to East LA, Anarchs suddenly is allied with the Camarilla. Delivering the sarcophagus to Andrei suddenly skips you forward for no reason and gets you thrown out of LaCroix's tower. Strauss fight is pretty fucking stupid, he's talking constantly through the entire fight while you're trying to deal with Anarchs and vampires. NPCs with rocket launchers one shotting you. You can make Damsel join you before fighting Strauss for some reason and she sticks with you in the Sabbat hideout in Hollowbrook hotel. If you didn't suck up to Andrei in every dialogue you can't survive the ending and try to duel him for the sarcophagus to not open it. Instead you just get fucked over with a stake in your heart and then sarcophagus explodes. Playing Sabbat as a Malk made me wanna kill myself by trying to understand what the modder was doing with the dialogue in a poor attempt to copy the style.

It makes perfect sense that when you have figures like Al Capone or Belisarius or Hardestadt (who fucking invented the Camarilla) that you can feel that makes this clan better, that the way they influence their members is better then the way other clans do, that they get shit done because the members who are a part of the clan get shit done.

I suppose playing Malkavian first without knowing about the game might make for a pretty good, confusing experience, since you won't get most of the dialogues and stuff. However, I don't think VtmB really needs that; there's already a lot of good stuff going on even with "normal" characters, and I think a first Malk playthrough might distract you from that.

The culture of each clan is unique and encourages each to embrace certain individuals which fit the clan mold (Toreador seek artsy types, Brujah are drawn to rebels). These molds are what can be judged.

Both are good, and not everyone is going to be as interested in Malk, so you should pick whatever clan sounds most interesting to you. But, playing Malk first and then on a repeat playthrough gives you a fuller experience than only playing Malk on a repeat.

Clan Quest mod should have documentation on ModDB. I am pretty sure it's compatible with the plus patch and other smaller mods, but it has been ages. However as a "veteran" of Bloodlines and someone that replayed the game too many times for my own good and as someone that tried out all the major mods I can confidently advise you to avoid ALL of them. Every single one. Clan Quest mod is the best of the bunch, but when the rest are so bad and inconsistent, that's barely saying anything. I don't even know where to start trashing mods like Final Nights or Antitribu, from overexaggerating the amount of new content, to the fact all "new" clans are reskins, to the fact most new disciplines don't work 9 out of 10 times, to the fact new NPCs and quests are horrendously written, to addint completely nonsensical enemies like xenomorphs into the game, adding unavoidable NPCs that attack in paths that were designed for the stealth approach... It seems the most effort put into Final Nights was new building textures and most effort into Antitribu was new character models.

Are there mods for this game? Anything worthwhile?

I played VTMR for the first time last month and loved it. Great atmosphere and character writing. Gameplay was a chore at first but becomes tolerable and even fun as you go on.

fun, but way more campy than Bloodlines. The companion AI can go suck a turd. I hated the fact at first you couldn't pick your clan, you had to be a Brujah, but I stopped being an autist and gave it another chance. You can however learn out of clan disciplines, for example your Brujah can learn Serpentis or Thaumaturgy in the game.

VtMB doesn't really take to increased difficulty well though. I'm not against difficult games but most of the mods do it wrong and end up just making the game more annoying than challenging.

the game is easy with mods or without. There can be few tricky parts like Bishop Vick or the Graveyard, but even those I think should be simple if you have some combat skills and know how to use your skills properly. The graveyard is simple as long as you don't stay at one gate more than like 15 seconds at a time and don't kill any zombies in the middle.

The bitch queen boss is also super easy if you use powerful ranged weapons that you should have once you are past Society of Leopold. Same goes for the Magilla Gorilla.
