Ice Age gives you full 360 no-scope protection, throw it up when they start teleporting then slap their shit after your free parry.

On Steam there's a sure way, you both start at the same time and while still in the loading one of you right click the name of the other on the chat and an option for Join Game will appear, just keep clicking it multiple times while the game is loading and then you'll join eachother

Deal with Furies by parrying their swipe. It staggers them. I deal with Judeccas using Balrog Killer Bee and Rainstorm.

I tend to just ignore Judeccas and clear the room, at which point they'll try to summon more hells planting their blades in the ground, hit the blades for a guard break and you can just wail on them. Especially effective with Nero since his buster is an autokill. Also if you're using Balrog you can daze them, but they will teleport before standing there dazed, so chase them without attacking (so you don't knock them out of the daze) and you can RI/juggle freely.

as someone who isn't very good at busting out huge combos and beating higher difficulties but still loves going through the story modes, it's disappointing that Bloody Palace is probably the only dlc we're getting. I would've loved a few story dlcs with playable Vergil, Trish and Lady with new cutscenes.

It'll take a miracle for Capcom to make story DLC made for those characters. The best you'll get is a few cutscenes in the start and ending. Levels will probably be retreads.

I heard Lady, Trish, and maybe even Lucia have hints of becoming playable. How true is this?

When you attack them enough while they're blocking you can break their scissors, first one blade then the other. You can also break their scissors by parrying their attacks. When their scissors break they summon new ones, revealing their true face in the process (it glows bright red, you're an idiot if you miss it). Any attack that hits their face kills them instantly. If you stagger them even with their scissors unbroken Nero can buster them for an instant kill too.

Itsuno said he wanted to leave the series open enough for Capcom could get someone else to make a sequel since he wants to do DD2, Rival Schools, etc sequels. So yea Dante and Vergil are now in hell but they're not stuck because Vergil has the Yamato. So in a potential sequel they either get out or something happens and Nero has to go in and get them. Nero has also been set up so that gameplay stuff could be given to him via Nico and he's OP enough to waltz through a situation like Dante so he could still use Trish and Lady's help, unlock his SDT, etc.

Furies and Judeccas might be the worst DMC enemies of all time. All they do is run away. I don't even find them particularly difficult to fight, it's just infuriating chasing them everywhere. They are anti-fun.

Clean and simple. Running across rooftops with Nero. I was on voice a friend when I got the game, and he hopped off when I got to mission 3, so it was just me and the game. The music when you're just exploring was amazing. The little wall you can break was a fun find. Breaking the Antenora's weapons when they run back at you with the Helter Skelter for the first time was amazing, and I was really starting to experiment with Break Ages.
Mission 3 is when I knew this was one of the best action games of all time.
There's not a single mission in the whole game I dislike, honestly. Mission 15 with Nero was also great. It was massive and forced you to use a bunch of different Breakers - the Scudo Angelos in the narrow hallways encouraged you to use Helter Skelter to break their shields, while the spikes encouraged you to slow them down with Ragtime, etc.

Man, I love this game. I haven't been this 100% satisfied in a game in a long time.

Those are great. I love 12. Any missions that are long with some light puzzle and exploration stuff really appeal to me. It's one of the reasons I had a lot of fun with mission 15.
It's weird that the Vergil fights and Gilgamesh have their own missions, but bosses like Cavaliere require you to go through a whole level to fight them. I wish there was a boss rush of sorts, even though the missions don't take long to get through because they're not as tediously padded out like previous games.

Of course not, it's gonna be existing enemies. At most we might get a Dante fight like in DMC4. Could also maybe mix in Shadow and Griffon as recurring enemies.

I hope that the inevitable Vergil/etc DLC adds new missions with new enemies/bosses/etc though.

Furies are better than Blitz and Soul Eaters and Judecca are better than Enigma and Dullahan, by a country mile. Parry Furies, let Judecca attack before attacking and don't knock them back.

I forget which one was the tag-team with V and Nero vs. the Angelo squad but that was pretty fucking cool. Especially with the online co-op

I wasn't a huge fan of that mission, honestly. I feel like V's combat style is too imprecise to work well with bosses, but it's possible I'm just not used to it yet. He's more about widespread AOE damage.

DMC never had good characters outside of 1, when Dante has a personality and Trish was relatively mysterious. Mundus was an actual threat and Sparda was shrouded in mystery.

DMC5's final boss buildup is literally Dante climbing up to Vergil to fight after Vergil reclaimed his humanity. He clearly is hesitant, so why try to destroy the world at all? Then Ultra Instinct Nero shows up and tropes his way to victory because Itsuno *so badly* wants us to like him.

DMC5's good enemies are all ripped straight from 1. The rest are Resident Evil rejects which I guarantee were leftover from RE7, plated bearded dragons, and Nelo Angelo with a shield. I like the goat-headed mages, though.

Talk about bland weapons, DSD is panned everywhere. And that's the only new weapon worth anything. A hat? A motorcycle split in two (thanks Jet Li!). At least a scythe is cool.

Yep. V, lacking his demonic side, realized the mistakes he had made and recruited Dante to clean up his mess.
He was gonna stay on the sidelines, til Trish told him to man up and see this through. Then he takes a more proactive role, but eventually succumbs to the feeling he expresses when he attempts to stab Dante and when he kills Vergil - he wants to defeat Dante. He can't help it.
Vergil returns more human than ever, but that will to stop Dante is ingrained in him. He's mellowed out and is no longer "evil" by the time the game ends, but it's likely that he'll always want to one-up Dante as a rival.

The only boss that's really a problem is Artemis, and that because she's generally hard to catch in general even with Nero. If you learn how to use Shadow then Goliath and Cavaliere are a cakewalk.

For Griffon stick with his (forward+shoot) button to dive him into the enemy which is very fast and deals really good damage. Also try to maintain his V shaped lightning(back+forward+shoot). For shadow his highest damage attack that i found so far is the piercing thing(back+forward) but his normal combos are cool too, i like doing his (back+attack) to make him spin in the air, pretty good against Cavalier. Don't forget that jumping has i-frames, unless you also need to pull your familiars away just do a single jump to avoid shit.

How is his cane useful mid-battle?

Missions 13 was great. It puts a smile on my face everytime I go through it. Mission 15 was really good as well. Had a lot of different ways to go through it and a good amount of secrets to find. Felt like the best kind of maze-level. I honestly don't get people who say this game has bad level design at all. Theres lots of clever hidden shit in the levels and a good amount of them have multiple ways you can proceed. The only mission I downright dislike it mission 16 for how fucking ugly it is, but Cerberus made up for it.

Lady doesn't work for DMC, she's completely freelance, she just sometimes provides jobs for Dante (like how she was the one who hired them to investigate Fortuna). Trish handles jobs Dante can't be bothered to do because they're too boring, which usually means jobs that actually pay.

He is. Tell me, how did Dante change as a person in 1? He didn't. He beat Mundus, saved Trish and put Vergil out of his missery. Things happened to hime, but he didn't change as a person. Dante at the end and beginning of 1 would have acted the same way in such a situation; that's not the case with with Dante at the start and end of 3.

Beating the game will have you Unlocking Vergil hanging with Nero and Dante. His minor interaction with Nero is pretty funny.
They're dreadful. Going through the mission is fine, no problems there. But his inherent weakness of having no mobility outside of his summons and having to take them away from the fight if you dodge with them along with being "button mash and summon Nightmare" , makes him incredbly boring and annoying to use

Better, it allows for more dynamic combat by a mile. Vergil in DMC3 is fun but it really just boils down to getting a couple potshots in, waiting for him to leave himself open and pulling a combo before repeating the cycle. DT doesn't add much but require you to dodge more and get some extra potshots in to break it.

I find them worse because too little windows to actually attack him. You can't parry his stinger with your attack like in 3. In general, he feels like a tank that can only be attacked in certain windows, and you can't stop any of his attacks

DMC3's Vergil fight is hard but not super interesting. All you do is wait for an opening after he does his pre-built chain of attacks. DMC5 Vergil has some more dynamic options and lots of stuff can happen during it. Every fight against him so far has felt different, but Vergil in 3 always fights the same.

See, it felt that way for me for sure. But I've only beaten the game on Devil Hunter so far and am working my way up to him again on Son of Sparda. Nero vs Vergil seemed way easier than Dante vs Vergil. Seemed like all of Nero's buster moves did a ton of damage to him for instance.

It would be neat if there was a team mechanic. You have two normal characters; one you control and one that follows you around. You can command them to do attacks, or you can press the D-pad to swap control of them. This way you can do a bunch of different mixups and comboes by swapping on the fly. This game assumes you know the lore of the series, as deep as some novels and the anime in fact. There's an option to watch the history of DMC in game, but of course its more enjoyable if you've played the previous ones.

1: I've done some testing, and at the very least, a couple moves seem to do slightly more damage with Sparda. For example, Prop on Rebellion is a single hit that does 60 damage. With Sparda, it turns into two 33 damage hits.
2: You can switch back to Rebellion and Sparda when you finish the game.

Anybody else find Dante a lot weaker than Nero and V? Could be I'm just doing something wrong, but while I can generally do a lot of damage in a very short period of time with Nero and V, every enemy feels like a grind with Dante.

Sparda actually has a longer hit box with stinger and shredder. And beat the game you get an ability that let's you rearrange all your weapons so you can have all weapons on at once.

Blitz is not the worst enemy in 4. That would be Assault Chimeras, followed by Faults, followed by Cutlasses, followed by Basilisks. Honestly, Blitzes are not that bad. There's definitely not as bad as Furies.

Bringer Knuckle is basically an IMMEDIATE button press after an attack. I could sorta get it consistently after some practice.

Max-Act is a bit harder. Feels like the timing is much more strict. Somehow.

Its literally an "I win" button-smash ability that goes against this skill-based game. You get no merit for mashing a button and killing everything or taking 30% of a boss bar

Lady needs a complete overhaul now that most of what she had was added to gunslinger and upgraded in it, especially with Dante getting Kalina Ann (and Kalina Ann 2 (and double Kalina Ann)). Draw inspiration from her DMC3 roots, make her melee attacks weak but more focused on mobility, give her own guns instead of reskins, return her pistols and SMG, give her her own shotgun and spiral. Give her reloading mechanics where you can time it after expending a clip or during a dodge to make it near-instant, give her variant ammo types instead of rehashing charged shot, build on what Tomboy did and give her an option to free aim (lock-on does set damage, free aim is risk-reward as you might do less damage hitting a hard spot or critical damage hitting a weak spot), just do more to differentiate her from being a slightly more gun-oriented and less interesting Dante clone.

If you want to learn the real way, you should start with 1. Its clunkier and simpler, but it will give you a strong base on the series, how to dodge, how to parry, timings, enemy exploits, how to fight Vergil 0.5

But I do know what characterization is. And DMC1 Dante has none, because all he does is tied to the plot. He's no different from any typical action movie hero you can self-insert into. He has no agency of his own. He is shallow.

I think part of what helps with me is knowing you have to push it IMMEDIATELY after starting up an attack rather than a bit afterwards like with exceed. I can barely even do it but knowing that bit helps a bit.

Give her her own moveset that's not based on Dante. One based on a reloading mechanic that makes shots more powerful like the one Nero has. Only melee attacks give her the ability to reload, which she can stock up. You could shoot her guns as is but that would basically do the same damage as Dante's weapons uncharged. This leads to a playstyle where you focus on comboing a few demons or landing wide attacks on groups of enemies to get ammo, which you spend on flashy, damaging attacks. Weapons would be a mix of gun types like the Kalina Ann, SMGs, LMG, maybe a lever action rifle or Revolvers for cowgirl flair.
