Because of how everyone defends KHIII as a good game, or even reasonable sounding people saying it's a decent game, I was starting to think nostalgia goggles are a real thing that genuinely affect your judgment to a stupid degree. But Devil May Cry 5 has reassured me that if I think it's fantastic then KHIII really does suck dick.

Well, I might be biased 'cause this game has given my a fuck ton of trouble to get it working on my PC, and it seems like I finally did because it hasn't crashed and I just beat it on Devil Hunter but my quick rundown is:

+Amazing graphics and style
+The characters control very flawless and have their unique gameplay
+They took what worked and improved on it, no such thing as a complete re-do
+I never felt like it was a chore to beat with the exception of a couple of missions (mainly m14, and the fucking hassle I went through to get it working)
+Smooth criminal

My complains are that the boss fights feel too underwhelming, and some of them reminded me of how I played Dragons Dogma. The JC seems a lot more forgiven this time around, as well as RG. Right around the end the game just wants to throw every remaining piece and get it over with. Vergil's fight reminded me way too much about DmC's Vorgil, like a mix between that and DMC3.

Overall I enjoyed my first playthrough, but holy fuck am I still salty about the crashing issues.

having a fun time with it but an annoyance I have is when you color up with Nero, you always have to empty 1 out since youre holding the shoot button to charge them. i'd prefer just coloring up with all of the shots in the chamber and not being forced to lose 1 when releasing the button

The problem with DMC3 was that the North American release defaulted on Hard Mode for some sadistic reason. However once you got past that first angry scissor monster in Mission 2 things kicked off pretty well.

In 3 Dante tells Vergil, "How about a kiss from your little brother". It's not uncommon that the twin who came out first assumes the role of the older sibling.

Dante feels more toned down just because of how ridiculous he was in 4. He feels like a hybrid between 3 and 1 in 5.

Seriously speaking, a whole "movie" of cutscenes bundled with DMC 3, 4, and now 5 was always a major selling point of the series (starting with 3, obviously).
The thing is, DMC also has very deep and polished gameplay at its core which separates it from what people usually call "movie games".

Many people who started from DMC3 or DMC4 completed the games specifically because of the story and the cinematics. The gameplay made them stick around afterward.

I'm not the original guy who was calling it a movie game. Cutscenes aren't really my problem with games like RDR2; it's the fact that it feels like you spend too much time on the "journey" between "destinations". Too much time is spent holding forward on the stick while your horse moves forward without meaningful interactions while you explore.
Interestingly, the best open world games I've ever played are BOTW and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. BOTW lessens the rewards found in "destinations", but the "journey" is the entire meat of the game, and due to the physics system and world design, simply moving from place to place is imaginative and fun.
I can't even put into words why I like S.T.A.L.K.E.R., but I do. I split 30 bucks on RDR2 to account share with someone and played it for less than two hours. I just couldn't take it. I shoved over 300 hours into BOTW. Maybe I'm just a dumbass.

Alright, I'm not interested in reviewing any of those games, my point was mostly that your criteria for calling something a "movie game" shouldn't be "it has cutscenes", because DMC5 has some incredibly annoying interruptions as well, that I, personally, cannot stand.
