I don't get it guys
How is this game so addictive?
I don't get it guys
I wouldn't be surprised if this is a real boss in Silksong.
Silksong will be causalized baby shit
They already showed you have bombs and escort missions
Wtf is this guys problem ffs
How is a different attack and a new gameplay mechanic a casualization? You could argue the added movement and fluidity and Hornet's moveset COULD make everything easier if the bosses are similar to Hollow Knight's, but don't bullshit your way in saying any sort of modern game mechanic is related to muh cashuls.
If you want to get technical he's the only member of his species to take up the life of a true warrior. So I guess that makes him some kind of autistic outcast by moth standards.
There's the backer moth ghost with a long lance nail.
Throw me head first into the path of pain because I wanna die after doing this holy shit. Next up the 5th pantheon time oh boy.
Addictive? Motherfucker after I got my hands on the Crystal Heart I went straight back to the Greenpath and died over and over again trying to platform past thorns, I hated every moment and
couldn't
stop
send help
stop shilling
Everything was fine until this cunt started stabbing himself holy fuck how am I supposed to dodge all those shits
>fluidity
>grappling hook, which is most likely going to be mandatory in bossfights, has half a million start-up frames
Going to take a break from getting my bum pounded in by Pantheon of the Knight and try some Steel Soul.
>any sort of modern game mechanic is related to muh cashuls
Correct
It's easier with double jump
Mawlek before Maggot because why not.
>5th pantheon
They definitely dropped the ball with that bullshit, and I can't understand why. How come you introduce difficulty settings within the game itself but you make the standard difficulty complete bullshit?
Nothing standard about Pantheon 5 son.
How do you even do Mawlek without a dash?
Pogoing.
I meant the move where he jumps on you. It seems too fast to just walk out.
? Jump over him
Oh that. He ALWAYS jumps at your exact location. Move when he shouts and he'll miss you by a mile.
If his landing location was randomised like Zote's you'd have trouble but it's not so you don't.
Yeah, that's the problem. They should have put working fucking benches on the standard difficulty and then put an option to disable them for max bragging rights. I do not have time for all that shit, man.
From the scrub diary:
Dear Diary,
I defeated Hornet in Kingdom's Edge,
The 3 dreamers are long gone.
I tried the Hive Knight but after losing I told myself to go to the Abyss and take Shade Cloak and Abyss Shriek. Done.
Now I want sharp shadow and I will tackle Hive knight and Mantis Traitor Lord.
Just woke up the Watcher, the black egg cracked open, wish me luck bois
Remember to stay patient and cautious against the mantis lord. He has tells for where he's going to attack.
Godspeed, little knight.
Why did they made the Hollow Knight fight so easy?
I have found out that yes, you can reach the dream tree with a pogo off a vengefly if you lure it here.
Only 15 geo as a reward tho.
>Why did they made the Hollow Knight fight so easy?
He wants to die
He's not the final boss
>Just woke up the Watcher, the black egg cracked open, wish me luck bois
You mean killed
Get woke, spine broke.
:D
But they're like already dead aren't they, that's why you use the dream nail and can hear their last words, if i am mistaken, correct me user i just came back to the game after losing 3/4 of my brain on dark souls 2
It sure has been a while since I did intended Greenpath strats.
haven´t killed any of the three bosses to unloak the sleeper. but I somehow found my way to edge of kingdom. where is the map and should I do the trail of the fools now or keep it for later?
The map is by the big pit where bodies fall
just found it on youtube
when is the best time to do the trails of the fool?
Warrior: as soon as you reach the arena
Conqueror: You should be fine as long as you have at least channeled nail and quick focus
Fool: I'd prefer coiled nail, mark of pride, 8 charm slots, and 7 masks before I'd try it. But it's up to you.
idina
I just really love the feel of exploring the world, finding new characters/enemies, and experiencing the varied sense of atmosphere.
Even if I am kind of shit at bosses.
Don't worry, experience helps.
Trial of the fool is such a drag to redo when you die, I think I'll finish the last two Zote fights instead, at least I can retry as soon as I die.
The Truce stands.
Our Vigil holds.
The Beasts are kept at bay.
God, I love this game
where do I get double jump? I'm currently about to fight the boss who gives the super hero landing ability
Double jump is near the bottom of the map. Open the sewers and keep exploran.
I'm curious how talkative Hornet will be in Silksong. It'll be interesting to play a character that can actually ask more about what's going on.
One of these fucking days I will get this pogo. But it is not today.
so basically at this point I need to have the Lamp. I died a few too many times before unlocking Jiji and becoming at least competent at platforming losing at least 1 000 Geo
Hornet talks with her Needle first if what I hear about her meeting with Quirrel is true
If you feel like scumming it, there are a few grass knights up from the stag station in Greenpath that are relatively easy to slaughter for dosh.
There are also dosh farming opportunities near the Tramp Ass and with the little hoppers below the stadium, but I don't think you've reached either of those spots yet.
>Even if I am kind of shit at bosses.
This firstly, but secondly, all bosses can be gear build bullied barring a handful. Several of the optional ones especially can actually be beaten into submission by literally outdamaging them so long as you charm up properly.
Keep faith, user!
† laughs in Nightmare Grimm †
I'll get the Dive, explore the shaky ground areas and by then hopefully have enough plus a few good abilities
Oh, I beat Nightmare King Grimm, and I did say "barring a handful" on the topic of bosses being susceptable to builds.
No, NKG is all about pattern memorisation, and it's clear he was designed as such since his moveset is fairly cut and dry, if just really damn quick compared to most other bosses.
Dropped
will pirate
Going to skip Lol Sanctum for now, since I want to buy some charm notches from Salubra.
How good is it actually? The artstyle put me off so hardcore I never really looked into it. Looks like every pretentious 2deep4u indieshit title out there, but if people are STILL discussing it there has to be something of worth in there.
It's good
t. Dropped Super Metroid after 20 min
>escort missions appeal to casuals
u fukn wot m8e
is Sanctum a piss take? It's tough going but getting grubsong before going there certainly helped. How's the boss?
the escort missions seem a bit more interesting than walking around with a helpless enemy magnet who moves so slow you actually have to stop and wait for them no matter how slowly you move
Sanctum isn't a freewin like most of the areas. The Soul twisters can actually hurt you.
Boss is a joke tho.
The gameplay itself is very solid though it starts slow but you unlock movement fast. Personally liked the artstyle too and find nothing pretentious about it. It's simple & clean which fits a small dev with no money. Can't be everyone a michelangelo pushing out perfect quality work.
This especially in numbers. Soul Knight gives me trouble if I've put the game down for a while and forgot how he fights.
I have never understood how people have trouble with Soul Master during the main game.
Anyone did the speed run? How hard is it? It took me 30h+ to reach 100% although i didn't use guides and had to revisit a lot.
>TFW Ancient Basin and the Abyss are a joke
If only Team Cherry could deliver...
Speedrun? Requires some planning and knowledge, you might take 2-3 tries. It's not that hard. The any% 5hour is MUCH harder than the hundo 20-hour since hundo isn't actually hundo, the game has 112% of completion and you can skip 12 of it.
Those are just doormats compared to the White Palace
They're places dead and buried and/or places the infection can't reasonably take much of a hold in (barring the Broken Vessel) so it makes sense they're hardly much of a challenge.
They just make up for it in terms of being story relevent.
Well this is new. I have a point to collecting rancid eggs now.
I assume you just play 2 saves. Do one section on first save, then redo immediatly on speedrun save with full knowledge.
Just go to the bank.
Wtf?
Can you do money by buying from Tuk and selling "there"?
Geo / Relic routing is a big part of it.
Post your charms of choice
Tuk is hollow on Steel Soul.
Abyss is 10/10 atmosphere. The climb back up while getting voidheart was kino.
Ah right this is steel soul so he's robo jiji
I am not talking about difficulty but development, map, lore, etc.
It could have been much more
Mantis Pride Worldwide
Quick Slash
Fragile Strength
Sharp Shadow
Well that's one thing done.
Not that hard but it will require some routing from your part, especially if you will pick either shade dash or swimming ability, shade takes more time but its easier on some bosses so thats what I took. You will need to decide how many upgrades you will want, charms, etc etc, looking at a speedrun will not help since they just beat the game without upgrades. Once you beat the speedrun is pretty easy to 100 % speedrun.
It took me around 3 hours and only because defender knights took me like an hour, but after phanteon hyperbolic training I could do it faster but you get my point, just prepare according to your playstile.
Quick Slash
Quick Focus
Quick Run (sprintmaster)
UnbrStr
Any more slots depends on what I'm doing.
Simple, the bloodstain/shade mechanic like in souls.
Every time you fail you don't want to stop the game with your money out in the field so you decide to do "just one more run".
I beat zote.
>take Uber to Dirthmouth
>give one cheap egg
>gg ez
>quit to menu
and then I go to bed.
>Haunted Gallery
>spooky level confirmed
Shaman Stone OP
DashMaster + Sharp Shadow OP
but at least it's not early game
Shaman Stone is way too early in the game
Yeah, it's one of the few games in recent memory that forced me to git good for basic progression.
Still haven't beaten Nightmare Grimm though. I've made progress but always misstep before the end.
The only positive thing that shit stain game did was help me realize how much of a Reddit meme 2D platformers are.
Focus more on avoiding damage before you start dealing damage. His flame geyser is f r e e hits, and so are his dragon fireballs.
The uppercut ... not so free, and the divekick can be hard to pogo.
Well yeah, you can do that but it's really another way of giving up like a faggot.
Try using one or more of these:
Seething
Cope
Incel
She's aggressive towards those who were throwing their lives away for the sake of desecrating her home.
Curious how she'll respond differently to being on someone else's turf.
>Well yeah, you can do that but it's really another way of giving up like a faggot.
I have a job so I need to get up in the morning
I have 5k Geo I'm slowly collecting for unbreakable so I can't afford to leave them
>Switch
you reckon she won't be aggressive against her kidnappers and their organisation
He's a decent challenge if you are doing a speedrun file and lack most upgrades as a result
This picture is wrong
Hornet x Knight romance is wrong and not Canon
Fuck off!!!
It's all versions faggot
Well, at least it doesn't sound like they'll teleguide you toward your goal.
NENDOROID WHEN
he's literally perfect
They're family.
trying way too hard to fit in man
What does "complete the game" even mean?
Is just ending 1 without dream nail & heart a completion already?
No
She also murdered that vessel in greenpath in Cold blood
how do you know what ability the boss gives you?
Another update from another scrub:
I realized that I need to explore more in the City of Tears, found the entrance to the Waterways. Didn't have a key, so I just bought the fucker. Got hung up on the Dung Defender a bit, but got through him. Not sure what's next, but I'll figure it out after work.
I presume that not every bug we'll meet will be with the kidnappers. She needs her own Quirrel tier bro.
7 years ago maybe, nowadays most Yea Forumsirgins dont even hide their Reddit cross-posting
Noted. I usually get to his second phase alright, but then there seems to be less opportunities to get a hit in.
why do they add this but the map compass takes up a fucking inventory slot?
Didn't say it was a perfect family.
Christ, it's like seeing the change between the difference generations of Pokemon. What an overdesigned mess.
because I've been encountering more and more suspicious looking ground and if In don't get it here I'm stumped where I will get it
I like metroidvanias a lot and I hate indie shit. I've tried all of the recommended ones and the last few I enjoyed were the strider game and shadow complex. I think hollow knight is a quality game and it sucked me in like none of the indie garbage has in several years of waiting for another good game
I wonder if I should be trying to yolo these uoma in Steel Soul
Maybe. Ghosts were some of the most chill characters of the first game though.
>why do they add this but the map compass takes up a fucking inventory slot?
It's punishment for you being too stupid to navigate
I've beaten the game user
Yes. Remove dreamers and kill HK
Then why complain
I'd have removed the compass from the game altogether
How far into the game do you have to be, before you come back to his corpse?
Get Mantis Claw without killing the vengefly king and he dies.
Here's the map progress. Got a few optionals. Should be more than prepared for Lol Sanctum now.
Do you mean the traitor lord? If so just bumrush him. if he does the dash forward use your shadow dash to get behind him, if he uses the jump+dive just walk forward a bit and he'll miss. If he uses the shockwave just back up and shadow dash through them
Current charm build?
ere we go ladz.
6 slots
Gathering Swarm
Fragile Strength
Fragile Greed
Nail is sharpened but no pale ore given yet
Picked up Abyss shriek, probably not gonna use it tho.
>Getting nail arts on a speed run
Why?
Unless it's just a steel run
Wait no not abyss shriek
The shit tier version
Howling wraiths
that's the one
why for?
imo with no compass it should at least highlight the area you're in
'tis merely steel. I'm taking it slow. Making it happen.
Ah, makes sense. I was about to ask if you had already been in the abyss
>why for?
Helps memorization
Some areas benefit from a sense of being lost
Etc
TRIPLE TWISTER OR NO BALLS
so what will be the lore reason for hornet running back to her corpse every time she dies? or are they just going to do away with that mechanic and if you die, everything is gone fuck you?
>imo with no compass it should at least highlight the area you're in
t. Shitter
pick up her gear and money
those areas have chalk map drawings until you fill it in. learning the map defeats that mechanic all the same as finding a map would
>super metroid is a shit game
Still free.
There will probably be a silk bundle or bag with money inside and a spider guarding it
Also iirc from the trailer it didn't seem it was exactly currency, since it's not constantly shown the amount on screen
I hope you friends are managing, saving and investing your money properly.
>Super Metroid is a shit game
Uh, yes?
What's the exchange rate of geo in this new city?
I finished the game (killed the HK) long time ago with some optional content explored and I keep seeing pics of places and bosses I haven't seen. Just how big is this game? How many optional regions/bosses are there?
I'm 100hrs in and I have no idea what I'm looking at here.
>I finished the game (killed the HK)
LOL
you mean you saw the credits
You're like 30% into the game
It’s speculated that the new currency is “Rosary” (Though I’m kinda skeptical of it myself), so since that sounds like something that has more effort in obtaining, it would be worth more than geo? Like, 100?
t. Shitter
i quit after an hour...boring and no idea where to go...overrated crap
they fit perfectly in the first game what are you talking about
If you've killed the HK without doing anything else you've seen about 30% or 40% of the game's content.
All that build up to end up dead in a pile of bodies like a no-name.
I hope we find out. I always wondered why exactly geo are valuable across kingdoms and how much they're actually worth.
hegale
>i quit after an hour...boring and no idea where to go...overrated crap
Good
Means the filter is working
I like em. Cymbal head's cute.

you have to be 18 or older to post here kiddo
Anyone else disappointed by the monarch wings absolutely not fitting ancient basin at all, or even Broken Vessel?
He doesn't even double jump
Took a trip to Lemm to sell some stuff. Safely back at the bench.
going well so far.
Holy fuck, I can’t believe people actually support so-called “casual filters”. How elitist do you shits have to be?
>Richer than me 25 hours in
REEEEEEE
>elitist
Game sold over 1 million copies.
Only people filtered are pure shit people.
Whats the best way to farm geo to get the unbreakable charms?
Name’s Sherma, I believe. Go look at Silksong’s press kit, it has the official art there.
Somehow, I get the idea that he’s gonna ask you to find his triangle when you first meet him.
It makes sense for the Pale King's wings to be in the Ancient Basin.
kill all moths
>Pale king
Monarch butterfly is just the name of a bug
>retard calls game crap because it doesn't have quest markers
>if you disagree you are an elitist
not him but almost half of the people who bought it didn't even get past the first hornet fight
>RACE TRAITOR BUT OK
And? It's still the same wings as the king.
Trial of the Conqueror. There are marginally faster ways, but they are boring.
Every DLC released for Hollow Knight made the game more difficult
user, try being optimistic
That's an interesting bug, no pun intended. This ballsack isn't splitting open once it hits the ground.
Or people who dont want to waste their time "exploring" aka killing the same enemies over and over
ever notice how these fanboys dont have anything but name calling for legit criticisms, pathetic
WTF?
1 million purchases =/= 1 million people beating the game.
How the fuck else do you form an opinion on it?
When I first played and read the "Last and Only Civilization" entrance plaque I assumed that Hallownest was the only real bug city in the world, and that the Dirtmouth shop owners would just end up sitting on hordes of useless rocks because everyone else was dead or gone, wandering off into the wasteland to lose their minds.
Nice to know that it was probably just bravado on the Pale King's part, declaring his city as the only one worth mentioning.
The Broken Vessel doesn't have the wings on himself, he's just defending the passage that leads to them. He probably does that because it's a relic from the Pale King (it's really his wings, you can see the Pale King wearing them in the Dung Defender's dream). In comparison the Soul Master is a boss who has equipped the item he's defending, it comes from him when he dies, and he keeps using it during battle.
>not him but almost half of the people who bought it didn't even get past the first hornet fight
People buy 20 games on Steam Sale
Play for 5 minutes
>Mm cool will play later
And the achievement average plummets
That's all it's happening
the game is still a work in progress the UI is the most likely thing to change
Relax. After I exhausted the vendors I have access too, I am poor once more.
Myla isn't doing too well.
Fuck me that's some good art.
I'm not so sure. I saw people are complaining about fighting hornet in greenpath more than once.
Do you mathematically need to fight all dream bosses for the awoken nail?
I'm around 650 essence and I need 1800 right
I fought xero, no eyes, and Borg
Rest was roots
>The Broken Vessel doesn't have the wings on himself, he's just defending the passage that leads to them
Pretty sure the vessel isn't defending anything, it just lays there dead. When the Knight shows around, Radiance sees the opportunity and send little orange shits to reanimate the corpse.
What's the lore behind the King losing the wings?
All backer dream warriors are 1100. All dream boss rematches are another 1600.
>are
here*
First try king's statue pogo.
Got hit a few times due to underestimating desolate dive's startup frames.
You get about 480 essence from the trees
1100 from the backer bosses. Galien, Markoth and No Eyes pay out the most.
Zote gives 300
Dung Defender gives 300
Lost Kin gives 400
Failed Knight gives 300
Lol Tyrant gives 300
Lol Tyrant is f r e e so go kill him if you want the 300 essence to get up to 950.
Bring Quick Focus and Soul Catcher so you get basically infinite hp during phase 1
for phase 2 either bring fragile strength or shaman stone so you can kill fast.
it took a while but it was worth the return
Because he's only the first phase of the "real" final boss.
Am I the only one disappointed that Myla's song didn't have hidden historical meaning or didn't prophesy the events of the game?
>Ohh, bury the knight with her broken nail
>Bury the lady, lovely and pale!
>Bury the priest in his tattered gown
>Then bury the beggar with his shining croooown!
Because of the song I was pretty sure that burying the lady, lovely and pale, meant you would eventually kill Hornet. Maybe some of these lines will have significance in Silksong? I guess technically ONE line of the song came true.
sounds more like a reference to the White Lady
Well, I guess I'll have to play it again.
Could just relate to Hallownest's fall in general. The deaths of the royal knights, the entombing of the queen, the collapse of the city. A hollow shell of a king looking out over what he couldn't save.
Fun fact: you can pogo these platforms in Crystal Peak to flip them over if they have the spiky side up.
He's designed with the idea in mind that you reach him when you have explored half of the game so you're supposed to have less health, less soul gauge, less charms and less nail damage. He doesn't scale in difficulty.
Should I get Silksong on Switch or get it on PC so I can play at 4K? Not really sure how big a deal a 2D game at 4K is, never tried it yet. I imagine I'd prefer a portable option but most of my playtime will be on the TV.
You don't need to play again. Your save isn't deleted after beating the game. Just load your last save and you'll stand in front of the Hollow Knight. Then you can walk out of the black temple, return to the caverns, keep exploring, and eventually challenge the Hollow Knight again but with a better approach that leads to a better ending.
Switch apparently has some input issues.
How long is this game btw? I'm looking for a cheap switch game and this looks good
first blind playthrough will probably take you ~30 hours. no joke
>How long is this game btw?
~40 hours for a blind run with the true ending
~100 hours if you want to autistically complete everything including optional hardcore content
And there's pale ore #1.
any% blind 15-20hr
~85% blind 30-40hr
106% blind ~60hr
I got like, over 60 hours out of it.
Nice. Bought
I think it'd better if I play again from the beginning and explore everything that can be explored. First time I played I rushed to the "ending." Thanks for the advice, though.
Good night little buggo, I hope you find all the precious gemstones of your dreams in the bug afterlife.
youtube.com
why is a stick figure with doll like anatomy in a poncho and a gigantic mask so sexy
>Mfw I'm 30 hours in using wikis and I'm barely past first ending
Imagine having double digit IQ
I really want to like this game but so far the only difficulty is figuring out where to go.
Anything with a skirt is automatically the pinnacle of sexuality in the era of jeans wearing feminists.
Show us your Absolute Radiance medal
>I really want to like this game but so far the only difficulty is figuring out where to go.
Talk to the elder bug up above
RACE TRAITOR BUT OK
buy the maps you stupid bappa nada
it's a poncho
He would need them later.
Meh. It flares like a skirt near the bottom and that's what your brain registers.
Hmm it’s no Grand Battle
I don't know what to do anymore. She just seems impossible. It's as if the difficulty curve went full retard at this point.
Guys
Guys
Listen guys
Guys seriously
The ghost is the next reincarnation of the King after he died in the White Palace
but nobody has their arms coming out the bottom of their skirt
Spiders have 8 legs and no arms, user.
why is this game so kino?
He lost his palace. A fucking palace. It was standing there, and then boom it's fucking gone. How do you lose a palace? Then he lost his kingdom, his marbles, his virginity, his moral compass and then blinked himself out of existence. Frankly it's a miracle we can find his wings.
then what about the abyss flashback?
Is kino German for 6.8/10? No? Then use a different term to describe Hollow Knight.
Reminder that Dream no More is the best ending.
i know user...
you are gonna make it trust me
do you have all the upgrades?
pure nail
dark up B
all charms
all masks?
Cringe
>normal radiance
>impossible, difficulty curve
Oh man, you are NOT gonna like Godmaster.
your opinion does not matter
All nail upgrades, lack one mask shard. Don't have all the charms but I do have pretty much all the ones people seem to use in that fight.
I think the first stretch of the game is easily the weakest. You're still figuring out mechanics, your movement set is limited, and you're just bouncing off of dead ends until you get lucky and find the right tools to proceed.
Once things open up more you finally start to feel like you're making progress.
I heard it that one, I don't think I'll do it though if it basically lacks any kind of exploration and has no new characters and enemies.
I think Shape of Unn and Deep Focus were what finally won it for me. Took me ages though.
Oro & Mato, Sheo, Sly, and Pure Vessel count as new.
try the charm that gives you more invicibility frames when you take damage.
also the charm that buffs your spells and the one that gives you more soul are a good choiche
just try to spam her with up B
it should make the fight a lot shorter and more bearable
It has two new characters as well as 4 completely new bosses and an extremely hard version of the Radiance. Also two new endings.
>has no new characters and enemies
It has 5 new bosses and Godseeker is top-tier waifu. I also initially thought I won't do it, but then I came to Hall of Gods to rematch some of my favourite bosses for fun, then I did them on radiant, then decided to see if I can radiant anyone else...
Its just really fucking fun. There's a lot of good times to be had going through steel soul mode or speedrunning if that's your bag - but if not, its just a well made experience with many memorable moments. If Silksong can deliver then this will be one of the strongest franchises to come out of the last decades in gaming.
It’s a mommy. No, not that kind.
I saw somebody saying that instead of dying at all she may just do the Spiderman move she always does and nope the hell back to safety, so maybe she'll just drop her purse.
This happened to me.
I rember thinking to myself that the game was nothing special because it was too open and had no general direction as to where to go, I seriously thought the entire game was going to be like that. But once you get the dash, the game opens a whole lot and things seems clearer.
Because there are certain casuals who cry about Radiance being too hard.
Well he did tell me to ascend.
How else to ascend but to pogo?
Pure speculation
the post is asking us to speculate and until we get the game or more gameplay speculate is all we can do
Hopefully they drop or change that mechanic because it really added nothing to the game and was more just for lore stuff.
Daily reminder that the Pale King falsifies history. The Pale King claimed the highest seat of authority and claimed it belonged to him because he inherited godlike powers from the Wyrm of legends, he claimed he was a Wyrm himself, a Wyrm reborn, and he claimed he personally gave a mind and voice to all bugs within his kingdom. But looking at evidence, there is no actual evidence that the Wyrm mark confers any power. The Knight gets a Wyrm mark himself. Does he gain the ability to grant minds to dumb bugs? Does he gains any supernatural powers? By all account, it does not. The mark does one thing: it opens a magic door with a royal which is rigged to open for someone with the mark. The door itself is magical, the mark does nothing at all in this business other than being an identification. So what makes this mark so special?
When confronted at Kingdom's Edge, Hornet makes a few passing remarks before the player can acquire the Wyrm Mark.
>So you'd pursue the deeper truth? It isn't one the weak could bear.
>But could you raise your nail once knowing its tragic conception? And knowing yourself?...
>Then do it, Ghost of Hallownest! Head onward. Burn that mark upon your shell and claim yourself as King.
All of Hornet's lines make sense if you consider that she knows the truth, that the mark is useless, that she believes the mark will open one door and that's it. She talks about deeper truths, about tragic pasts, about self discovery, she talks about these things because the mark will allow the Knight to enter the Abyss and learn more about himself. The mark will do nothing else, so she mentions nothing else. Does she talks about the fabled properties of the mark? Does she says the Knight will become quasi-divine? A king of mythological might? Her last remarks has a flair of derision, she taunts the knight to "claim himself as king", knowing full well that the marks has no divine inheritance, and that the Pale King was no more than a bug.
Well, yeah, but it'd make sense.
Being king of a dead kingdom is an empty title. All the mark granted was access to all of Hallownest's secrets - that being the Abyss. The White Palace is sealed in memory and really doesn't count.
Does she not teleport if you pogo?
>and things seems clearer
>Well, yeah, but it'd make sense.
>Fall in lava
>Lol just kidding, just gonna spider Man away
No
Gorb teleports but not often. Free damage.
I doubt I'll be able to get False Knight now, normally I get him later in the game. Still I'll give it a try. Not like I can die here.
Gorb is a female?
That is valid criticism. It's a mistake for any metroidvania to not immediately give a movement ability (dash, walljump, wallgrab, higher jump, slide, transformation, anything) in the first 15 minutes of the game. Hollow Knight waits way too long before giving abilities that will satisfy twitchy fingers.
Already 9 masks
Damn, knowing where stuff is makes for really fast progress
... or I could get it on the first try.
So the king is just a normal wasp-like dude?
>the moment you touch the lava you shoot the thing
I don't see the problem.
2 of those are fragile heart.
Welp, off to plow Lol Tyrant.
Is it? I couldn't wait to finish the base game so I could do something else. Addictive isn't the word I'd use to describe it
Of course he isn't. Females can't be great minds.
I mean. I can see what they where aiming for. They wanted to make the first part be a true exploratory experience before transforming into a typical metroidvania. But, the game just kind of throws you into the Forgotten Crossroads without any direction or purpose. You're just there wandering and trying to find the correct route for the game to advance. It's a dangerous gambe. On one hand, it makes for a more immersive experience, trying to find your way and slowly discovering the truth by yourself; on the other hand, its also a frustrating way to present the game and start a quest, because you're re not even sure why you're doing what you're doing, you're given very little information about yourself, the world you're in and what's your next move in the grand scheme of things, and that can be frustrating as a player. Not everyone sticks around to a start such as that.
But you can get a movement ability in the first 15 minutes of the game - the dash. If you know what you're doing, that is.
Honestly this mindset that the game has to give people fast movement right away is bizarre. Having the game immediately start with the dash or wall-climbing would have been a huge design mistake.
>the first part be a true exploratory experience
What? The first part before the dash is completely linear, you HAVE to get the spell and go to Greenpath for the dash. How is that true exploration as opposed to being able to choose your path?
You have full exploration of the area, user. You can even fight a hidden boss before going to Greenpath - you can fight several bosses, actually, or skip them all. You can find the stag station, you can find various NPCs, you can find all sorts of shit. Its the very definition of a vertical slice of gameplay.
Still free.
I bought the game one week ago and I just saw that the physical edition is coming out fuuuuuuck.
Super Metroid gives the Morph Ball in the first 5 minutes of the game. It's an ability that unlocks exploring new areas and it makes the player go "holy shit now I can go to those places I saw before" and it sets up the mood for the rest of the game. Was Super Metroid wrong to do so?
Shit, nice. Im getting the Journal. Shame that you cant buy the map separately, I dont really want the rest of collectiors edition but that map is a must
that fake out was soo damn good
Gotta agree, but you know it's coming for his refight.
>Super Metroid gives the Morph Ball in the first 5 minutes of the game.
Hollow Knight isn't Super Metroid. A Morph Ball is not a dash/air dash. Neither developer was incorrect in how they chose to implement their decision.
What a stupid post.
Died against AR again in pantheon of hallownest. At least I didn't die during the last phase like last time, only a couple of hits away from victory.
First time in a long time I'm considering giving up on a hard challenge in a game. I won't quit right away, but the fact that I'm even considering it pisses me off. I'll try to beat it on Ascended and train some, but seems kinda pointless given how random the boss is. I'll dodge all spikes and orbs only to get fucked by the laser, that gets me way too much.
>I'll try to beat it on Ascended and train some, but seems kinda pointless given how random the boss is.
Maybe watch some videos on people taking her down, because it really comes down to recognizing how to react to attacks and how to conserve your dash i-frames.
>Was Super Metroid wrong to do so?
Yes? SM has plenty of design decisions that aren't good in hindsight. It's barely a good game by modern standarts, it just gets a free pass for being one of the first.
City of Tears? More like, I'm bored to tears!
I haven't played in months.
Post memes
I gotcho memes right here, buddy boy
Right, I'm near Elder Hu, this should be F R E E.
Wait, shit, I don't have shade cloak.
... still free.
this is not memes
That was really disappointing.
I thought you didn't have the regular dash at first. That's all you need.
Well, thanks for the tips. But I think I'll try to take a break from the game for a while. Maybe play something else. I just don't want to start to hate a game that right now is pretty much a top 10 for me.
I really feel like this is some whole other level. I mean at least with bosses like Friede from DS3 or Alma from Ninja Gaiden I slowly made more progress with each fight. Here it feels like constantly the same point and the fact that I have to fight another boss on the way, even if an easy one, doesn't help.
I don't claim anywhere that SM is a perfect game. SM is an imperfect game with many flaws. It has plenty of design decisions that were bad but giving the Morph Ball early was good. The point is to give the player a taste of what to expect from the game.
Read the earlier posts.
>It's a mistake for any metroidvania to not immediately give a movement ability (dash, walljump, wallgrab, higher jump, slide, transformation, anything)
Transformation covers Morph Ball.
Shit
I don't like the Charm system
try the dlc instead, it's easier
That's for closing the door on me earlier you little shit.
>5 great knights
>3 are off-screened, one is a crying lesbian and the other plays with poop
I do, but it can feel restrictive at times.
Unless you're like me, forget, and die on his fakeout because you have one health left.
The system is fine, especially the idea that they interact with each other, but the majority of them lack variety and impact.
a single Knight does what a King, 5 knights and 3 Dreamers couldn't
I don't know about that. I heard the final boss from it is the hardest of them all discounting the godmaster ones.
He didnt do it alone
Hornet provided more help than Seppuku Knight
>Play Hollow Knight, 3 hours in, decide it's boring and tedious (not to be mistaken for hard)
>Am told "It starts slow, give it more time
>10 hours in, still tedious, still boring, still bland
>Am told "It really picks up in the second half"
>20 hours in, even more tedious, more boring, more bland
>Am told "The best parts are the near the end, the game just goes off the rails.
>30 hours in, all the same shit, all the same flash animation, all the same sponge-bosses, but now there's more of all of it.
>40 hours in, realise there is no "better parts" and that I have been trolled by the entire internet.
This game is terrible. How much of the internet was in on this meme? Bosses are no harder than any other game, they just take an obnoxious amount of time to beat, the challenge being to beat bosses before you lose interest or you have to go do something else. This game could have been 10 hours long and would have been better for it.
Is posting on your dedicated subreddit really not enough for you?
Why is Dung Defender so fucking easy anyway? It doesn't make sense lore-wise since he is a great knight, and it doesn't make sense gameplay-wise since he is quite late in the game and guards one of the most valuable items.
>"Overdesigned"
>White bug
>Silver bug
>Green and yellow bug
>Brown bug
>Bug with hat
The only even remotely "overdesigned" character is top right, and even that is still pretty simple.
Why wasn't the Hollow Knight considered a "great knight" like these 5 ?
yoour opinion does not matter
Elderbug has been equipped with the anti-void flower.
Just ordered it.
Why do you enter a thread about something you do not like and even make a post in it?
I assumed this would be some kind of mashup remix, but it's literally a 2 frame gif of the Silksong characters set to Fire Emblem music. What was the point of making this?
7 health masks (+ 2 shards)
2 soul vessels (+ 0 shards)
I'd say I'm making decent progress. Going to take a break here.
Next stop will be sewers and basin.
Don't you mean that it's still pretty cymbal?
Do they keep the flower on them permanently?
Not permanently. It disappears when they die.
Someone playing Hollow Knight for the first time is not going to get the dash in the first 15 minutes. Hollow Knight ranks among my favorite games, but I was really close to dropping it before I got the dash because I was getting bored.
To let you know that all of you hollowfucks don't belong here.
And I want to let you know that you can fuck yourself
They were named that before the infestation and the Hollow knight was made after to protect from the kingdom from an enemy that could not be beaten by blade "We knights defend against the physical, but a formless enemy. How to defeat such a foe? "
Shape of Unn is easily one of my favorite charms for boss battles. I would never have been able to beat NKG without it.
>hold D
user?
a-are you playing with the keyboard?
I think it's meant to be one of these little critters.
I just got it the other day and holy shit it's actually good
Yes.
Why wouldn't I play with the keyboard?
Controller buttons aren't any easier to press than keyboard buttons, in fact they're harder if you want to press a bunch of different buttons quickly.
It works perfectly fine with a keyboard!
I was fine with the Charm system for almost the entire game. But when I had to fight NKG with two fewer Charm slots than normal, I was very grumpy.
Oh yeah, it'd let you duck his fireballs, avoid his flame geyser, and go in between his spikes.
So that's a couple of extra healing spots you wouldn't have before. Good idea.
Out, pitiful creature, this sad shilling campaign of yours is pathetic.
I will make another thread when this one hit bump limit immediately just for you
What are you, a Shakespeare villain?
>everything I do not like is reddit or shilling
I fucking hate you subhumans
Thank for proving my point.
Does shakespeare even write villains?
His stories seem to lack a central foe, and are more about how a group of people bring about their mutual downfall.
stay mad fag
>escort missions are inherently casual
Huh?
HAHAHAHAHAHA YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT SHILLING MEANS
Hello, it's me Iago.
I just wanted to tell you about how loyal and trustworthy I am.
Advertising a product that profits you in some way while pretending to be a bystander or a customer.
This is an anonymous board, which is the dumbest place to shill anything.
You can literally wait for a genuine post from someone else then cash out.
This is so sad.
That user probably is, and while I usually play with a controller sometimes when I just want to get a screenshot of something I'll use the keyboard out of laziness.
It's not like HK is really hardcore.
Well, the last pantheon is a bitch, but completing a game is not a great feat. In fact, it's pretty forgiving unless you are doing a steel soul speedrun.
Speedruns might as well be steel soul because if you rip, run is rip.
I absolutely love this picture.
Contrarians in every HK thread.
How does it feel to know that you have absolute zero influence here?
Good. Can't imagine what a sad wreck of a person would want any kind of influence over this garbage heap.
>How is this game so addictive?
Filling in a map is compulsive, the autistic part of your brain loves it.
Rejoice, soon HK threads will stop completely. Then daily Silksong threads will follow.
From what I've seen on Youtube Thorns of Agony seem to make a lot of battles very easy but where on Earth do I find it
>soon
how optimistic
Middle of greenpath
They're only 1 free nail hit when you take damage, so it's not like they're reliable.
>three vagánias
>imagine
base nail?
I ran some numbers (which I admit I’m honestly just ballparking) and it might be possible that Silksong will be out mid-late 2019?
>HK took them 3 years to make
Even if they can do it faster now since they have more resources and even if they've been working on it for like a year or so, this is a full blown sequel, so I say we won't get it till mid 2020.
It's a fun Metroidvania. It's a bit slow until you unlock the basic movement upgrades. It's also a bit harder than most Metroidvanias and commits the cardinal sin of not putting save points next to bosses. The map system can be a chore sometimes, as you must first find the map maker in a new zone before you can even start charting the zone. Overall it's worth a playthrough, but I wouldn't grind your face against the post game content unless you like boss rushes.
Does anyone have any recommendations on charms or tips on how to do trial of the fool? I have been able to get past that no floor section but not consistently and I end up just dying right at the end before God Tamer.
>keep getting ass kicked by traitor lord
>just no hit him
what the fuck why couldn't i do that earlier
Just a tip:
Don't get hit
Can someone post that Japanese video where this gif is from?
Use the +range and +damage charms and the one that gives you more invincibility after getting hit. They should make the no floor section a lot easier.
youtube.com
what's my prize
The game rewards playing on a calm state.
go play deadrising, casual
That says more about you than it says about the game design being bad.
Sorry but I don't believe a game has bad design just because people get bored without fancy new abilities in the first 15-30 minutes of the game. I'd be really, really curious to hear how you would all fix this anyways - would you literally just have the knight start with the dash, or have it picked up right away in the crossroads?
The game gets good when you do.
>youtube.com
>what's my prize
My eternal gratitude
fangamer.com
Physical edition and Collectors edition coming soon. 30 bucks shipping to Europe though, fuck that.
And also a boner, evidently.
Not him but it took me 20 tries to beat False Knight.
I thought this game was not for me and here I am clearing Trials of the Fools.
Just, not many will have my perseverance.
give him an ability which can be bought or earned to satisfy both crowds
Holy shit, that's hilarious.
So you should have the shop unlocked at the start of the game? That just encourages geo farming, if anything.
Many like to criticize the crossroads but I have yet to hear any suggestions in any thread ever about objective improvements for how the area (or indeed, the early part of the game) could be improved through changing game design choices.
What did she mean by this?
You better have the skills to kill moth or we’re all fucked.
I want to see Hornet being Brutal like this in her game. Tying someone up then stabbing them in the forehead is intense
The Knight wouldn't have been able to do squat without the Seer and the Dream Nail.
Most common complaint I hear is that it's tedious to traverse without Dash. They could just put the Sprintmaster charm somewhere near the very beginning. It's available the moment you rescue Sly anyways so I don't think even hardcore purists (which I count myself among) would decry that as casualizing the game.
>I think the first stretch of the game is easily the weakest
The Crossroads are probably the best designed area of the game, and I mean it in a good way.
People just don't seem to have the patience nor the attention for a game that doesn't immediately tell you what to do and where to go and leaves that for you since the start.
But I honestly think the first area of the game does not deserve the rep it gets just because some people get bored so easily.
Well, to begin with she goes around actually killing people and not just mad husks like that pussy knight.
How about starting with a grounded version of the dash?
Basically you can't dash in the air and the dash instantly stops the moment you're dash out of a ledge.
So it doesn't change anything about the Mothwing Cloak working as an upgrade, it would just give people more mobility and speed for the start of the game.
Unless you have too much skill and you don't even need her to find the moth and then you end up fucking up everything yourself...
When the red sword and shield guys appear kill everything except one of them. Use dream nail and heal until you're at full health and full soul.
Ok, it's trash
I prefer to see the extra notch as a reward for players who don't need the compass and realize the map is incredibly easy to read, rather than a punish for those who have problems with it.
Naturally, not everyone has the same direction and spatial memory; my brother would get lost all the time in our mines back when we played Minecraft together.
Finding your way around the game is really easy, but if you ever open the map cause you want to look for anything, trying to find where the fuck you are in the map is a huge pain in the ass.
Finaly it's coming out physicaly, I will now buy your game.
By being good. He's one of the easiest bosses in the game.
wow this is so much quality
based japs
Correct. But not every steel soul run needs to be a speedrun.
I want a physical OST
>not buying digital
>mom it's not a phase i'm a bee
Born of God and Spider
Am I the only one that just cannot take Sharpe seriously because of his nose?
I want someone to translate the Japanese comments on that video.
>trying to find where the fuck you are in the map is a huge pain in the ass
I honestly disagree.
We're talking about looking at the map, which means you already went to the bench, which means you probably have a minimal understanding of the rooms you went through regarding their shape and exits.
If you know your general direction, remember how the 2 previous rooms you went through were like, and have in mind how the current room you're in is shaped like and where the exits you used are located, I personally find it extremely easy to draw comparisons and pick your location.
I mean, there's rarely two similar rooms (map-wise) side by side in this game, which is also a plus the few times it happens (like in Greenpath) because it means you just have to look for the "twins".
The only two times I got really disoriented in this game was Deepnest and Crystal Peak because the game throws you in places that appear as one big room in the map but are composed of several tunnels and tiny rooms. I suppose that type of design is intended, specially on Deepnest.
I'm pretty sure I also got confused as fuck in the Queen Gardens, but I can't remember why.
Hornet is a strong, independent spider-wasp-woman that needs no bugmen.
Anyone feels like there's been a very slight change in the style regarding the new characters?
>We're talking about looking at the map, which means you already went to the bench,
You know you can open the map at any point, don't you?
maybe more
Some people like it. Bland people, surely, like this bland game.
>Bland story told by ripping off Dark Souls' themes and omitting most of the story anyway so it seems like it's deeper than it is
>A bland charm system that is a chore and nothing else, save for a few obscure charm interactions that require a wiki or tedious autism to pull off
>Tedious collecting for 100%
>Battle system based on pattern memorization easily beaten by recent games like cuphead
>Damage sponges and a completely superfluous damage upgrade system that mars an already mediocre battle system
>Constant backtracking
>Tacked-on DLC that ruins the pace, one of its few good parts
>Horrible low quality backed-made content REQUIRED for full completion %
At least the controls are good, i guess, but it's designed by amateurs copying better designers.
damn I actually managed to beat that fucking fly
finally I can try Pantheon of the Knight
LMAO we got another one bros
I bet these are the same people saying there's nothing to do in Botw
You misunderstand me, I just wanted to clarify with that line that we're specifically talking about looking at the map when you're revisiting areas and they already appear completed in it. Just getting that out of the way because exploring with the map complete is very different than exploring a place for the first time.
With "bench" I was just specifying the fact that you're working with an "updated" map, not that you're looking at the map from a bench.
I should've really phrased that better... my bad.
so are all Hornet's abilities going to be gear based or is she going to get some personal power. I don't see her sucking up powers like the Knight so maybe she'll be taught things like the Nail Master's did. It'd be a bit silly to say she was capable of doing everything she does here in the 1st game
more colourful but that's it
She's a jobber in the first game
Well, it's an entirely different kingdom.
Reminder that this is the type of tasteless retard that comes here to shit on the game and complain he got lost.
Pay no mind.
>queen's garden
>"we ran out of ideas for level design so here's a bunch of spikes everywhere"
>traitor lord
>"we can't think of any more boss patterns for this room so lets have him hit twice as hard"
If it wasn't for the theme, I'd hate this area.
The game gets good when you reach Dirtmouth.
whats ligma
He's right that Undertale is way more influential than hollow knight ever will.
I hate it regardless
Also
>You can walk on this flat surface except the very corner has spikes coming from the side and you lose a mask
Yeah no fuck you
At Least make it more evident
She uses drugs. Remember kids, don't do drugs.
I'm the user you're replying to and you're 100% correct.
>whats ligma
Ligma balls
>You can walk on this flat surface except the very corner has spikes coming from the side and you lose a mask
ughhhhh
I'm taking a break
It's also a shit though, and very far from being original and "refreshing".
New Legends
Oh no, Reddit found us
>Lol le silly anti vax meme xDD

Something happened and now you have to get a Hollow Knight inspired tattoo - a character, a symbol, a phrase, etc.
What do you get?
Shovelknight seems to have fallen off
Goddamn, this always gets me, no matter how many times I see it.
>see Stag Station sign pointing to a fucking wall

Best music tho.
>I'm the user you're replying to and you're 100% correct.
You just can't have fun.
Sorry, really
The fuck are you even talking about?
Not really, it's a huge name when it comes to indie.
Are those people doing a new game or anything?
why does this game make you so mad?
>unbreakable strength

Unbreakable strength is 15 k and the only one you need
AY YO NIGGA GIT GUD NOMSAYIN?

You don't need more money after strength so greed is useless
You don't need a hearts since there's lifeblood charms and when you have strength you don't need masks
That’s not how ass looks.
I CANNOT
I KNOW
Why are you so ashamed of your hobby?
>Why are you so ashamed of your hobby?
Woodworking is a hobby

Videogames are entertainment for kids which we are playing past the right age.
Just because society "permits" it now it doesn't make it any less right, after all we permit stuff like gay kids adoption now.

Its fucking frightening

Correct, I didnt unlock all map, I meant I EXPLORED all I could and reach without knowing the pogo jump.
that's why you need the lamp
Only 600 geo to go
I have dozens of games i enjoy. This games is not even close to being as fun as Dark Souls. The only thing it can match that game in is the lackluster narrative. BOTW is the same. You have to have started gaming in 2010 to enjoy these games due to low taste.
It's my post making you angry, user.
I'm the picture of calm sharing my opinions since i finished the game and didn't really enjoy it. I should have played Demon's Souls again like i had planned originally. Now that's a fun game without much unnecessary bland padding.
Get the Lumifly Lamp, will light your way.
Rescue Sly on the south-east corner of the Forgotten Crossraods
Then meet him at Dirtmouth and buy it off him.
I am from 1989 and have been playing since amiga2000
Botw and Hollow Knight are two of the games of the decade.
>people who do enjoy games I didn't are bland and have low taste
why are you so deep inside of your own ass?
What's the source on this image? I knew it in the past and google isn't helping me.
I felt pretty similarly when I first saw it, but it actually is a good game, and the art style fits very well.
I first saw it posted on another HK thread o I can't help you
Just stumbled around in Godhome for a bit, taking a break from the evil that is all bindings PoH and found this. Wtf. I thought you needed them all together to get to this and the mask entry. But no, apparently all bindings seperately is enough.
All bindings at once is literally just for bragging rights.
Are you for real?
If it's any consolation, i'm approaching the entire DLC like that.
Not even touching the second pantheon until i've done the first.
Keep getting spitroasted by the nail bros, but i've practically memorised the prior fights to the point i can do them hitless if i'm concentrating.
