it's an enemy that has a 1/64 chance of appearing in a small room in the last dungeon of FF4 and that enemy then has a 1/256 chance of dropping the pink tail, which is for a quest that will give you the strongest armor in the game

Flan Princess has a 1/64 chance of appearing in two dungeons, in random encounters in one room each. When it does appear it has a 1/64 chance of dropping a Pink Tail, which can be traded for the best armor in the game. It's a pain in the ass.

looks like someone got rekt in the bell tower

The whole game was full of this. There are dozens of items which can only drop from an enemy that spawns once per playthrough. What were they thinking?

Umm yes?

1% of 100 enemies is 1. That meas that 1 should drop the weapon

It means 1 could drop, not should.
Random chance means that over a large sample size, you could expect to see the item drop every once 100 times, but due to the nature of randomness it would eventually not drop once in a million over an infinite sample size.

Chances don't accumulate. After the 100th killed enemy still has a drop chance of 1%.

To be honest, Gen IV legendaries took away so much mystery from Pokemon itself. Gamefreak blew its load too early with Arceus.

and that's why gen 3 and HG/SS were the last truely kino pokemon games

What's better, drop rate, or guaranteed drop with extra time consuming crafting steps?

you have to kill at least 459 enemies to get a >99% chance for a single drop

>finally getting that drop you have been farming days/weeks for
I remember seeing it on the ground lads

Attached: DE3D817A-0305-4654-8604-81067F042884.png (706x913, 67K)

unironically didn't buy the game because of this

I'll still insist that BW2 were the last good games, although BW1 was the beginning of the end. Zoroark's event management was very poorly handled, despite being it's why it's even of interest I do think that it helped killed the mystery of Pokemon.

You know what I did? I was a greedy motherfucker and wanted a Pokemon with all possible ribbons it could get, legitimately, without hacking the game saves. So that eventually became "get perfect Poke Contest stats" too. So I looked up he recipes for those perfect Pokeblocks, and bought a cheap e-Reader and the e-Reader berry cards on ebay, and farmed those out.

But I needed that Liechi berry from that damn island. So I looked up the optimal ways to improve the odds, and learned that the RNG number for the island resets on day change and does not lock in until you first save that day. So that meant I could save at 11:00 PM the day before, let the day roll over, and soft reset to keep changing the number. So I had 3 plans:
>Save the game at the PC and check all 420 Pokemon I caught, soft resetting for quick warping back to the PC (1 hour 30 minutes). I can only do this once per day
>Check all 420 Pokemon, walking back each time, and if no luck soft reset and try again (2 hours)
>Save in front of the checker with a party of 6 and check, then soft reset if I fail
I went with the first, and did that every day for two months straight before I gave up and shelved the game for later. Even now, I'm still thinking about building a LEGO Mindstorms robot to play the game for me and take photos of the screen so it could do option 3. Getting to that island is fucking hell when you're not modifying the game saves.

I think BW2 we're good, yeah. but not as kino as the ones I mentioned. that's just my opinion though.

Fucking Retards, 100% means guaranteed chance, 1% means 1/100 chance.Ten tries of 1% gives a 10% of it dropping, so 100 chances gives a 100% chance of dropping.

This is basic fucking math, how is Yea Forums this dumb...

True that, modern Pokemon will never get that same feel of mystery again. S&S will end up being as cookie cutter as every game since Gen VI.

They're not dumb enough to fall for this bait.

I heard phantasy star online 2 had absolutely crazy drop rates below 1%.

I think they're dead by now.
Only thing that makes all that worse that they stopped playing weeks later

There's literally nothing comfier than camping a boss all night with friends for a 0.1% drop.

That feel when I traded away channelers trident to a stranger online because I hot it on my first try.
At least he gave me a chaos barbed straightsword+10 and I was pretty low soul level so pvp matched me with beginners that died in one hit to it every time.
Had 99 humanity very quick.

I remember when some asian guy was trying to get some super rare belt from Path of Exiles once, and he got it, but then he lost it because he didn't confirm he got the belt

what a punkass bitch
i'm very mad at them for you and if i see them in the afterlife i'm gonna punch them in the groin

With a 1% drop rate, the chance of getting it on the 1st try is 1/100. But if you wanted to get it specifically on the 2nd try you would have to first fail to get the drop on the 1st try and then get it on the 2nd try which would be 99/100 * 1/100 = 99/10000 or 0.99%. And the further you go on, the less likely you are to get it on that try specifically.

Honestly, the only upside is several versions of the game let you farm an item that automatically starts an encounter against the rarest enemy formation, so it's not AS painful as it sounds. But still severely painful.

Really low drop rates are better than making it so people can just post a youtube video about how you can get this super rare item by doing this very specific thing.

>get first hat drop
>nobody says anything

Dalmatica flashbacks. Kraken Club flashbacks. Was FFXI truly the luck-seekers game, even before that lottery event?

Bought a few Hyacinth Macaws for 1g from the Booty Bay AH back when it was a Common-quality item. Good times.

Ok i can understand for multiplayer games but why the fuck would any sadistic dev put a low drop chance for items in singleplayer games?
That makes no sense and you know players are just gonna mod that bullshit out

At least this one had a purpose, I farmed so much Exp off these bastards I would get instant wins. The Gutsy bat still haunts me, you have two chances and of it doesn't drop you have to walk throught the entire Magicant maze again after resetting to try again. It has never dropped and never will.

No, he is right.

Pad out the play time.
There was a period where rpg's had to be able to brag being 40+hrs long for people to not dismiss them out of hand

this happened to me then some chinese stole my account because the password and account name was the same i used on some other thing that got leaked by filthy russian hackers.

I'm putting 1/10000 drop rates in my video game for rare/good weapons and armor, how do you like that, huh?

>Numbers in the 1000 range
That would give you a 99.96% chance of getting the drop. Unlikely.

Getting the loot to forge the Tournesol in vanilla FFXII was a blast thanks to this.
Have they changed the requirements in Zodiac Age?

Too bad, we're playing with Personal Loot rules at this very moment. The drop is now mine.

Attached: 1932219.jpg (180x240, 22K)

Fuck off Jagex.

Dont you get a tail either way in a chest inside the Summoned Monster's town? or is that another kind of tail?

This is annoying but its not terrible as long as there is some sort of pity timer of some sort that gaurantees it after X amount of tries or pseudorandom distribution that increases the chance for every failure. It allows players to have that exhilarating rush of winning the lottery with an early drop but it lets the less lucky still feel like they are making concrete progress by finding ways to get drops more efficiently. Dota had a similar mechanic with its crit system that makes your attacks more likely to crit every time you dont.

How does this work

You can make your odds better if you beat really hard bosses at certain points in the game when you're underleveled

My game will be a challenge at every step, there will be no easy areas ever

>1/4096 chance to drop
>devs make an event where you buy dungeon key to get that item at an absurdly high rate

Attached: 1480404542538.png (800x416, 28K)

i did this with the rainbow pudding or whatever that rare drop from flans was called in FF4 ds

How do you call the bullshit that is the FF XII trading system or whatever in which you sell loot in stores and after selling especific loot you get to buy special and unique items once in the stores and in order to get the most powerful weapons and armors(but not THE most powerful weapon, thats a whole another level of bullshit on its own) you need to sell the items you get from this special sales several times in order to get ANOTHER sale that has the weapon?

Except that if you dont have a guide, you dont know those monsters have it
And also because the monsters are also Rare monsters you may never even know were there to begin
Also I already explored those areas many times because thats what I do
ALSO I need to sell several of the drops(which are close to 1-5%) from the Rare monsters(which have their own bullshit conditions in order to appear) in order to get the sales, and the game forces you to get out of the "hunting" area in order to sell the drops, because if you try to get as many as you can of the loot and then sell it in bulk you will only get ONE sale, rendering the extra loot non existant
Example: in order to get the sale that nets you a Ruby cristal, you need to sell 3 Adamantite caparaces, you need to sell 3 Ruby Cristals in order to get a sale that will net you the sword Tournasol(this is an example, I dont remember which items you had to get, but I remember the method), if you stayed in the area with the Adamantites and got, say, 9 caparaces, and sold them all, the game will only read the first 3 ones in order to give you the sale and forget about the rest, so ACTUALLY you need to sell 3 caparaces, buy 1 ruby cristal, repeat times 3 and then you get the Tournasol, obviously, the game doesnt tell you this at all in any form.

>Monster has a 50% chance of spawning on 6 random tiles that shuffle every day

>and the game forces you to get out of the "hunting" area in order to sell the drops
I forgot to add that I said this because when you get back to the area in order to get more of the drops, you will need to repeat the bullshit conditions for the Rare Monsters to appear which may go from something simple as "enter the area from this side" to "get a Chain of 50 from this other monster found in the area, leave and then come back"

>1/128 drop on an enemy that is a 1/128 spawn enemy
Fucking Final Fantasy IV.

This entire game. I hear it's the worst game in terms of drop rates; good thing I started to play it when I started I taking Oxycontin for medical needs.

Attached: Luck.png (1283x961, 726K)

It's even worse Chansey wise in FRLG because of the 1% encounter rate iirc. With the same 5% chance of it also holding a Lucky Egg.

At least with Chansey you're guaranteed a Lucky Egg in Gale of Darkness via a sidequest, all you don't have to suffer RNG if you don't want to for that.

dumb semantics poster, that's not the way it works in real life at all though. It's a 1% chance each time, which is what the thread is about, not "% chance that you'd get it on X try"
This isn't a fucking high school stats class nigga

Attached: 1551843299937.jpg (240x210, 12K)

I didn't find it that bad but I really hate that it's necessary to get as soon as possible on Expert.

>can improve drop rate immensely using some shitty secondary system
>basically not worth grinding without it
and that's why I stopped playing bdo

The odds of having seen one over X attempts improves as X grows larger.

If the item has a 10% drop rate:
Your first kill has a 90% chance of not seeing it.
After 2 kills, there's an 81% chance it hasn't appeared (.9*.9)
3 kills is .9*.9*.9
And so on. That's how you can say that after, 400+ kills, a player SHOULD have seen an item with a negligible drop rate.

second one is munchlax

Wrong by far. You're WAY more likely to get it on the last try you mental midget.

Reminder that decreased drop rates don't increase the item's intrinsic value.
If you don't enjoy farming for it or think the game isn't worth it than just stop. Get some help.

But there HAS to be a reason why its so rare, RIGHT?

Path of Shitxile

>0.051% drop chance

People in this thread think 0.1% is low when Patapon 3 ultimate equipment exists
>When a player receives an Ultimate Equipment, the chances to get another one are reduced to half.
Also, this brings the chances of having more than 1-2 Ultimates to an infim number!
>base chance starts at 1/4000
>over 30 different ultimate equips

Terraria has this fuckin problem. Hours of grinding for certain items was mind numbing. Let's not forget rare enemies with even rarer drops.

Actually fuck drops altogether, if I kill a thing and it has the fucking thing, I should just get it. Fuck farming, fuck RNG and FUCK people who think it's fine

Granblue Fantasy?

I mean you can use your character on any world so you can spawn dozens of worlds just for the purpose of looting

Also
>chests that have a chance to drop these items are from the end of some dungeons that require 5-10minutes of work and are not guaranteed
>34 UEs
>0,00025% to get first Ultimate Equipment
>0.000000000000029% to get the last Ultimate Equipment

Attached: holup.jpg (184x184, 9K)

1% drop chance isnt real. swallow the redpill: each time you try getting it its 50 % you either get it OR not. thats why some peole get it first try or second. sometimes you get after 100000 time.

>Item only drops from certain monsters
>those monsters can't be found anywhere and must be bred by the player
>the process is easy but random and takes an ingame week or so to produce results
>what item the monster will drop is decided on its creation so you can't even save scum your chances at the item you want once you do receive monster
>it's a rare item drop to boot

> enemy has a sword

Fuck this. We need to go back to roguelikes. Now those were the days...

others have said, but the kicker is on the US version on the snes, there wasn't even an item that forced the encounter to appear
