Anyone who uses Steam or any platform like it or pays for digital distribution is not a real PC gamer.

There are business models where you rely on a portion of your userbase for your revenue, while the others are essentially freeriders. This is how f2p games, for example, function. A bunch of people are never going to spend a penny, but the whales will spend a bunch in their stead, and to get these whales, you want to keep the barrier of entry low.

Essentially what that applies to are things that are free, which don't let you to spend money om anything, or at the very least, the profit they'd get from those things are minimal.
