Fantastic 4 has had shitty movies from the start, doesn't stop the companies from churning them out every decade or so to keep the rights. If they can't sell it to someone they'll just hold onto the rights and make sure nobody else will get the chance to make a good movie from the rights. You underestimate how petty people are when it comes to this stuff. They'll just sit on it forever just so nobody can make more money off it than they can.
